http://webservices.sys-con.com/read/333333.htm - geomon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4*Technology* heroes? The title of the article is a bit misleading. The linked-through article better describes which "heroes" they are writing about: IT heroes.
Nothing wrong with having 150 IT heroes, mind you. I just was looking for people like Edison, Westinghouse, Walter H. Schottky, etc. Technology includes more than just IT. - Schlappy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4So who is going to put them in order? I can see the debates in action now.

- benliong, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2While I agree that everyone should look at the original list, the compiled series of talks by some of the people in the list actually brings a lot of perspective. You really see how forward-thinking they are listening to them talk on things they're passionate about.
ITConversations is probably the best thing that happened to the podcasting world. - sbwms, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3You can digg some of these episodes, too. Here are some the IT Conversations feeds, and a search URL to show them all:

One of my favorites is this two-part talk by Steve Wozniak from Gnomedex 2004:

- pauleric, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Al Gore never said that, it's a common misquote by people who hate him. He actually said he took the lead in creating the internet. Having the power to create is a much more exalted status than being able to invent. Creation requires god-like powers, but the haters and deniers want to drag the man down.
- Isotope, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I'm shocked that I didn't see Al Gore's name on the list... I thought he invented the internet? /sarcasm
- stox, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Damn, I know a lot of those people. It is good to see Ward Christensen and Randy Seuss getting a nod for the first BBS.
- AlfaWolph, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@pauleric: Thank you.
And if you were actually joking Isotope, it is actually kind of funny. Republicans successfully ascribed that non-existent quote to him and it still sticks today, and that is why some people still actually think he said that. And that's where it starts getting sad instead..
In all honesty, he probably does belong on a list of IT heroes. Just ask Vinton Cerf. - jj2me, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Dave Cutler: The brains behind VMS; hired away by Microsoft for Windows NT"
The naming of Windows NT is by Cutler, who wasn't treated so well at DEC. His revenge was to leave to Microsoft and create another OS with name "WNT," each letter one higher than "VMS." - juanjodic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Bill Gates is a Hero? WTF?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I should be on that list.
- apotropaic, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Only one of the google guys made it on the list? Thats odd. Its interesting to see a few of the greats have moved on to working with google.
- eatmorgnome, on 10/12/2007, -0/+01) Claude E. Shannon

What we are able to enjoy today would have not been possible without these brilliant minds. For the Internet and modern computing. Hats off to the editors, columnists, commentators, and SOA World Magazine readers who compiled this list.
"The Woz" you got my #1 vote!!
