- eddie273, on 11/22/2008, -2/+46Anyone who doesn't know how to do these things already in 2008 shouldn't attempt them, seriously, "Burn any video file to a playable DVD." ?
- IIECONII, on 11/22/2008, -1/+38When the format becomes obsolete or you *****-up a burned-disc, you can use it as a coaster.
- jasmus, on 11/23/2008, -1/+25Repair the scratches on them? Seriously?
- inactive, on 11/23/2008, -2/+21"Top 10"? Really?
- DrLeePhD, on 11/22/2008, -2/+20I don't have use for dvd as a playable format anymore. My hard drive based networked media center killed them for me.
good for rentals but I don't put videos on DVD anymore. - krispykreams, on 11/23/2008, -5/+19I came to Digg for this? Please, bury this article. Otherwise crap like this will keep hitting the front page.
- dfsjdkflasjk, on 11/23/2008, -1/+15Now you're just crazy.
- inactive, on 11/23/2008, -2/+16You just look for the flaw in everything, don't you? They work fine as a coaster unless your glass has a ***** hole in it.
- jasmus, on 11/23/2008, -0/+13It's so important, it has two number 1's.
- Hoogs, on 11/23/2008, -0/+11I'm downloading Wikipedia right now. Sounds pretty awesome.
- inactive, on 11/23/2008, -1/+1211. Put porn on them.
- lxrhee, on 11/23/2008, -0/+10I was hoping for more from this article.. maybe some macgyver-style life-saving tricks, or at least some alternative uses for DVDs. Instead we got this:
10. Burn data
9. Use up household cleaner (doesn't require a DVD..)
8. Rip data
7. Burn data
6. Rip data
5. Burn data
4. Play a DVD (are you kidding me??)
3. Rip data
2. Burn data
1. Rip data
You know what, it's probably my fault for expecting too much. - inactive, on 11/23/2008, -1/+11"put movies on your computer and vice-versa,"
Put computers on your movie? - chazza125, on 11/23/2008, -2/+10That only happens with holy water.
*pause for applause* - Br0wn, on 11/23/2008, -1/+8they sure stretched to get to 10.
- bannonto, on 11/23/2008, -1/+7Microwave!! FTW!
- jasmus, on 11/23/2008, -0/+6yes yes, my point is it's a ***** inclusion on a ***** list of ***** things to do with dvd's. ***** I say.
- smackydoodle, on 11/23/2008, -1/+7What about a DVD soaks up liquid? It just pools up and leaks onto whatever is underneath it.
- OmegaWolf, on 11/23/2008, -0/+5I think DVDs are good for TV, movies and software installations. Someday everything will probably be on the little USB thumb drives. I think those are the data storage of the future.
- inactive, on 11/23/2008, -1/+6Target practice
- dngermouse, on 11/23/2008, -1/+6buried for complete lameness
- lowtolerance, on 11/23/2008, -0/+4seriously. you gotta try it. that's how i roll on saturday nights.

- leif77, on 11/23/2008, -1/+3mount an .iso?... really? where does the dvd come in?
- diggdong, on 11/23/2008, -0/+2encrypt spaceballs then send it to a foreign government.
- nepidae, on 11/23/2008, -1/+3wtf was that.
- inactive, on 11/23/2008, -0/+2If anybody hasn't done this, GO DO IT NOW!
BTW, do it at the gas station or a friend's house unless you're already replacing your microwave. - inactive, on 11/23/2008, -1/+3Pretty poor list. I would like it to talk about maybe burning photo/video collage presentations onto a DVD.
- inactive, on 11/23/2008, -0/+2Before hard drives?
*looks at 2.5GB Quantum Bigfoot hard drive that was obsolete when CD-ROM was new and exciting*
I got mine off a client who finally decided it is time to hit Best Buy for a new computer.
"Today's 486, Pentium, and PowerPC-based computers offer processor speeds many times faster than only two years ago."

- Ghiren, on 11/23/2008, -1/+3Rip dvd movies to .iso files, mount them, then play them? I dunno. I don't wanna do anything illegal... bwahahahahahaha... Okay... sorry. I can't say that with a straight face.
A lot of these are pretty obvious that they can be done but it's nice that the list points people toward applications that they can use to do it. I didn't know about the household cleaner trick though. Leaves your movie collection smelling lemony fresh! Overall, a good list. - Abomonog, on 11/23/2008, -0/+2skeet shooting
- Memnochxx, on 11/23/2008, -1/+3"put movies on your computer and vice-versa"
DVDs can put computers on my movies? - inactive, on 11/23/2008, -0/+2Oh yeah I agree. I buried this piece of ***** article as soon as I was done reading it.
- inactive, on 11/23/2008, -0/+2According to my 60 year old dad its bee-bee-dee player, get it right.
My parents additionally say "intender entertainment system." - inactive, on 11/23/2008, -0/+2the list sucks, the format is fine.
- leif77, on 11/23/2008, -0/+1200 GB goes very fast. Just a warning.
- MarkusX, on 11/23/2008, -0/+1Nice list of new tools. I guess I am a bit out of the loop in video tools.
- k3ndal1, on 11/23/2008, -0/+1*five....ouch.
- windohs, on 11/23/2008, -0/+111. Drink Coaster?
- k3ndal1, on 11/23/2008, -0/+1Did this make anyone else who has even touched a four and a quarter floppy feel old?
- wilsondus, on 11/23/2008, -0/+1Actually I have a Mac network with my HDD attached to my Air Port Extreme. I do have a windows machine that I keep for gaming, but I don't bother to back it up. Apple's Time Machine takes care of my backups... all I had to do was change a couple settings and tell it where to put the backed up info.
- superjamie, on 11/23/2008, -0/+1Once again another tech-oriented, "hack"-filled article from Lifehacker.
I wish I could auto-bury this lame ***** site. - inactive, on 11/23/2008, -0/+1fair enough.
- Thorpe, on 11/23/2008, -0/+1Get yourself a DVD-RW then.
- BenO169, on 11/24/2008, -0/+1Butter's in the fridge!
