Lost - MikeCerm, on 06/05/2008, -3/+667 of the top 10 shows prove that when all of the decent shows have ended for the season, people get desperate and watch crap.
- ronfez, on 06/05/2008, -0/+40TV networks need to start offering torrents instead of their in browser viewers. I'm sure they could even add their precious commercials to their torrents.
- GregofJersey, on 06/05/2008, -0/+37Damn, Top Gear fell off the list. Best show on BBC.
- skepticality, on 06/05/2008, -1/+37Men in Trees was canceled because the network said no one cared. I guess their definition of not caring is much different than the one in the dictionary. TV execs need to go back to school and learn what people LIKE and not what they think people like.
- ThePwnyExpress, on 06/05/2008, -1/+34bears. beets. battlestar galactica
- Danktolker, on 06/05/2008, -5/+35Greek is a family friendly show about College life that airs on ABC family which is completely retarded. They might as well make a G rated show about life in prison. So you think you can dance? ***** you guys
- inactive, on 06/05/2008, -3/+32So You Think You Can Dance? Really? That show?
- hexydes, on 06/05/2008, -2/+23Uhm, because the HD torrent for Lost is:
1. Better quality.
2. Available earlier.
3. Without ANY commercial interruption.
4. Playable with or without presence of Internet.
5. Playable in player of viewer's choice.
6. In the same location as the other shows people download.
Let me know if you need me to keep going here. It's nice that ABC is making an attempt, but at the end of the day, it just amounts to someone offering table scraps in an attempt to lure people back home, when meanwhile they're over at the neighbor's house eating pizza and wings.
To ABC: Look at that list. When you have a system in place that can truly compete with that, then you will be relevant again. In the meantime, someone is providing a better service than you. To NOT pick that method would make us bad consumers. - thejokell, on 06/05/2008, -0/+20Those are "this week's" shows, and the Office isn't airing new episodes until the fall.
- hexydes, on 06/05/2008, -2/+21I find it ironic that Torrentfreak, a website which (in the opinion of "the industry") is such a huge supporter of "the enemy", provides some of the most up-to-date and relevant information in the media industry.
It's also a great example of "how an industry sees it" and "reality" sometimes diverge greatly. - miken32, on 06/05/2008, -0/+17"abc.com puts up an awesome HD stream of every single LOST episode the day after it airs."
For Americans. - vypergts, on 06/05/2008, -2/+18How is this news? They publish this list every week. Do we really need to digg every torrentfreak post like it's XKCD? That's what RSS feeds are for people.
- Nasterisk, on 06/05/2008, -1/+17Most of the "people" downloading Battlestar Galactica are cylons.
- mufasa, on 06/05/2008, -1/+16you forgot Lost
- IAmTheGuy, on 06/05/2008, -1/+15Many of these shows are making me reevaluate my previously positive image of the standard person that uses bittorrent.
- Ryohei, on 06/05/2008, -2/+16Wow, you can tell that most Diggers don't even follow the link to the article anymore. That list that jks139 posted at the top is for the LAST WEEK, this is TF list from the LAST YEAR (DL Count in ( ) ):
1 Heroes (2.439.154)
2 Top Gear (1.217.923)
3 Battlestar Galactica (706.209)
4 Lost (705.724)
5 Prison Break (608.487)
6 Desperate Housewives (457.805)
7 24 (524.303)
8 Family Guy (522.839)
9 Dexter (435.670)
10 Scrubs (427.420)
This looks a little more accurate, and this is just the count from Mininova. Additionally, TV Execs get it wrong from time to time as far as what the populous wants, but for the most part they get right. - CullinS, on 06/05/2008, -0/+14The next season is set for June 22! I assume after the new season is released, it'll pop back up.
- SteveThePlank, on 06/05/2008, -1/+14Because not everyone in the world is American.
- inactive, on 06/05/2008, -2/+15BSG FTW
- SnapETom, on 06/05/2008, -1/+14You know what's funny? I often miss BSG because it's on on Friday nights. I then start the DL when I get home and watch it the next morning. I *used* to buy it from iTunes Store to save myself from the hassle. Since NBC is full of greedy, out-of-touch ***** who yanked their shows from iTunes, I now gladly download it for free from TPB Store.
- vypergts, on 06/05/2008, -0/+13It's hard for a show to be successful when the execs change the time slot EVERY ***** WEEK. DVRs are successful out of necessity because noone knows when the hell a show is on anymore. Men in Trees was just the latest casualty.
- ileftfark, on 06/05/2008, -1/+13Exactly. Why watch stuff on TV when you can get Youtube-quality picture with dynamic audio coming through your .5" laptop speakers?
- Lousansano, on 06/05/2008, -0/+11A BSG viewer who actually does stuff on Friday nights. No Way
- inactive, on 06/05/2008, -0/+11You have to remember that this includes international downloads. I was overseas for a few years and watched LOST via torrent. The ABC stream was blocked outside the US and the local station was a season behind.
- RudeTurnip, on 06/05/2008, -1/+12Three simple choices:
1. An ad at the beginning that says "brought to you by..." If it's short and right at the beginning, there's no point in fast forwarding.
2. Run ads at the bottom of the screen now and then...only mildly annoying to some at times.
3. Really short ads that come and go quickly that don't interrupt the flow of the program. Revision3 does this and it's not even worth my time to pick up the remote. - whiledo, on 03/25/2009, -0/+10They have already been moved into a distribution format they have no control over - the Internet. There's also nothing to keep TiVos, directtv/dish pvrs, etc. from fast-forwarding through the commercials. There's just a type of person who is going to watch the commercials, and a type of person who is not. They have to learn to live with that.
The bigger problem is that an industry built on local affiliates is going to have to come to terms with those local affiliates being redundant.
But as it stands right now, they're going to start losing those people who would watch the commercials, because they're allowing the homemade torrents to dominate. - ninjasquirrel, on 06/05/2008, -0/+10They insist on locking the content down so that it's only visible in the US. I'd gladly use an online service, but as long as they refuse to allow Canadians the same access I'll just keep downloading whatever episodes I miss on the first TV run.
- DreKor, on 06/05/2008, -1/+10Probably misnamed torrents planted by MediaDefender. Nobody would waste their bandwidth on that show on purpose.
- brokencode, on 06/05/2008, -0/+9I'll be downloading Weeds when it comes back June 16.
- lennybird, on 06/05/2008, -4/+11you can watch all of lost in hd on abc.com... Why would you pirate that? Promote television for free on internet by suffering the 2 minutes worth of adds on a 45 minute show.
- gn0stik, on 06/05/2008, -0/+7listen up execs. follow the trends here. Lost should be renamed lost: viewership. You change your alotted time every week or couple of weeks and you lose viewers every single time. Period. What makes this more enfuriating is that you ***** have plenty of time to run re-runs of tired ass shows, and then time us out of watching the good shows. BSG same thing. Every time you move a show, watch your ratings.
It makes no sense to move the show, and expect to not lose ratings, then move the show again because it lost ratings and doesn't deserve it's spot. It's your fault your cash cows keep dying.
You know what we all need? A network that buys cancelled shows, and puts them back into production, and only cancels them when they are actually dead.
I thought sci-fi was going to start doing this. But they sat on space: above and beyond.
Firefly, and surface, and opted instead to give us D movies, dr. who (gives a *****) and reality pseudo science (what?). I guess one good show is enough to justify a whole network? I think I could pull that off. - graemee, on 06/05/2008, -1/+8Bleach - 21027 seeds, 6396 leechers
- inactive, on 06/05/2008, -1/+8I'm surprised Dexter isn't up there. It's been gaining a lot of popularity lately.
I'm REALLY surprised that The Tudors is up there. That show is so slow paced and nowhere near enough boobies. - sodoh, on 06/05/2008, -1/+8Stuff gets canned for various reasons. Other shows that were good but got canned.
- Drive
- Firefly
- Day Break
It isn't always about torrents. Of course the producers are onto this. That is why most of the stuff coming out of US television is advert laden, some with even the adverts part of the main plots.
In some cases they don't even bother to try anymore. Like mobile phones mysteriously changing a few months later (mid-season) but only a day or two has passed for the protagonist. Or getting a present of a new Nissan from your dad in the show and spending 2 minutes while he does a walk around talking about all the features. - funk13, on 06/05/2008, -1/+8Hulu makes it pretty easy to watch the shows without downloading and ads are minimal, so that may be a reason.
- ninjasquirrel, on 06/05/2008, -0/+6It'll never happen... they won't move to a new distribution format that they don't have total control over... otherwise, how are they going to keep you from fast-forwarding through the commercials?
- DeFex, on 06/05/2008, -0/+6people who say people should be shot should be electrocuted.
- MikeSD34, on 06/05/2008, -0/+6That's because it is.
1.) Person presents with illness
2.) Doctors try a bunch of things that fail
3.) Doctors brake into patients apartment/house
4.) Patient gets worse
6.) House argues with Cuddy
5.) Doctors try something risky, and it doesn't solve the problem.
6.) Doctors find out it's something that's not all that uncommon, or something terminal
They occasionally switch it up for story arcs, like when he hired new assistants, or when he fought with the guy who contributed quite a bit of money and joined the board of directors, or the story arc involving the cop who got stuck in a room with a thermometer up his ass, but overall it's the same.
I'm not saying it's bad, despite this fact it usually draws me in all the same. - freehunter, on 06/05/2008, -0/+63. Without ANY commercial interruption
I agree with your other points, but you have to remember they are still a business and still looking to make money. If they put out so much money for you to enjoy a show, they expect you to do your part and help them pay for making more of that show. I don't have a problem watching commercials during TV shows (however I HATE them during sporting events, how much are they making from tickets and merchandise? the stadiums should be paying the networks for airing their games commercial free.) - gordeaoux, on 06/05/2008, -1/+7yeah, but HD via flash is not nearly as good as downloaded HD, not necessarily in visual quality, but in the ability to play on other devices (xbox 360, appleTV, etc) and no buffering, etc.
- deathfix, on 06/05/2008, -0/+6Seed or GTFO.
- Danktolker, on 06/05/2008, -0/+5I'm guessing this guy is probably one of the actors or in some way making money off pimping that abortion of a *****. It's true that I've never seen an episode but come on there is no way that show doesn't suck. A side note: showing a negative consequence of promiscuity is indeed family friendly.
- VaporBro, on 06/05/2008, -3/+8You think with all the MST3k I download it would be on that list...
Some people just don't know what they are missing... - orangefly, on 06/05/2008, -0/+5this is the way the should do ratings....
- gn0stik, on 06/05/2008, -2/+7Suck it Neilsen.
