- badqat, on 04/15/2009, -3/+370Wait...does TWC run the show, or does the FCC? Because I think TWC is very confused about their role, and they'd be best off to shut up and provide their customers decent service.
- foresmac, on 04/15/2009, -2/+298Herein I tell TWC they can suck it.
- ww3ace, on 04/15/2009, -1/+270$15 for a single gb of use?! That's like one episode of lost on abc.com!
- AndrewDB, on 04/15/2009, -0/+162This won't end well for TWC.
- inactive, on 04/15/2009, -1/+130What the ***** good is broadband with a 1GB cap for $15? I could download 1GB per week on dial-up back in the day. Could it be that this is Time-Warner's way of stemming the tide of mp3 and movie downloading? Time-Warner IS in the music business after all. Conflict of interest much?
- trentrezn0r, on 04/15/2009, -1/+106***** Time Warner!
- rehwaldt, on 04/15/2009, -2/+107Wow, these guys at TWC are arrogant SOBs. I think the FCC should crack down on them hard. The quicker the better.
- mhockey14221, on 04/15/2009, -0/+104And what if you get a bug that constantly sends out data without you knowing about it? What if your 12 year old grandson decides to fire up Limewire? This plan is obviously catered to people who aren't the most computer-savvy, how on earth should they know if their computer, during a round of the Sims, is sending out data by the Mb?
- PeppermintPig, on 04/15/2009, -9/+107TWC, compete or STFU. FCC, GTFO, seriously.
- alappat1, on 04/15/2009, -1/+86wow... TWC is playing the "we need to save jobs and grow as a company" card to allow for anti-net-neutrality schemes.. (lot of hyphens in that one!)
who would have thought a large corporations would care more about profit than about an open internet. /s - robEstyles, on 04/15/2009, -0/+73not to mention what if your neighbor is on your unsecured wireless. I live in an apartment complex and at my house alone Ican connect to 4 unsecure networks all named conveniently "linksys"
- inactive, on 04/15/2009, -0/+71Dear time warner,
Suck my balls
Sincerely
-Your Customers - vsujohn2, on 04/15/2009, -2/+71What about comcast? They have bandwidth caps as well. I dont understand. They offer a new 50mbps line, but cap you at 250GB? Whats the point of all that speed if you can only fully utilize it for under 12 hours until you cap out for the month?
- dalittle, on 04/15/2009, -0/+65Time Warner is trying to protect their failing outdated cable tv business model. Net Neutrality threatens it. Heavy bandwidth usage threatens it. They can do what ever they want if they pay back the $200 billion in infrastructure they received from taxpayers enabling a monopoly in some areas. As long as we paid for the infrastructure they should have limits to what they can do with it.
- AgeofMastery, on 04/15/2009, -0/+58Actually it's their way of getting you to use their VOIP phone instead of Vonnage, stream movies via their On Demand service instead of NetFlix or Hulu.
Once they lock in the caps everywhere you'll see them make an exception for bandwidth usage on their own services and probably those of a few chosen partners. - woofers07, on 04/15/2009, -2/+51I'm so glad I have Comcast instead.
...oh wait - ericdano, on 04/15/2009, -3/+47I'll take slightly slower internet with no caps please. Thanks.
- ByteGuerilla, on 04/15/2009, -0/+40When big companies are telling you to shut up, you know you're doing something right.
- jlungu, on 04/15/2009, -1/+41As a TWC customer in Rochester, NY I am not happy about this ... I have no other broadband options (DSL not available in my neighborhood).
I hope Eric Massa stamps this out before it spreads like wildfire.
Oh, and ***** Time Warner. Prepare to lose my $60/mo. - thirdeyeopen, on 04/15/2009, -0/+39TWC can eat all the dicks.
- glitchbit, on 04/15/2009, -0/+37TWC says they are anxious to explain what they are doing to the public? What is there to say? They want more money, profits and they know their customers have money and want to watch a bizillion youtube videos hence they will go after said customers which have said money.
TWC's new motto should be "Broadband for the rich and stupid." because I am certainly not going to pay $1200 a year for the same internet that I am currently paying $420 for... - noclss2000, on 04/15/2009, -1/+36Dear Time Warner Cable,
KISS MY ASS!
Sincerely,
Your Customers
and yes, some of us actually do have a choice to drop twc and go to someone else that doesn't have a cap, remember that twc. - renegadeafk, on 04/15/2009, -1/+36Wel, at least comcast's cap is reasonable. Even heavy users won't exeed it. I am a heavy torrenter and have 200-300 torrents seeding and I am also a heavy online gamer and never touch the cap. We also have 3 computers with other users who use the internet a lot as well.
TWC's cap is RIDICULOUS and is a complete rip off and is extorting non tech savvy users.
Comcast also doesn't charge when you go over the cap but if you do it enough you can be dc'd. - AmazingSteve, on 04/15/2009, -3/+38Don't you have some teabagging to do or something?
- civicsi99, on 04/15/2009, -2/+36YILA! (yay i like acronyms)!
- renegadeafk, on 04/15/2009, -1/+31comcast's 250 gb cap is hardly as bad as this...
- indymike, on 04/15/2009, -0/+30This is all about the fact people are tuning off the TV and turning on the internet. And I can get "premium video content" from anyone on the entire Internet instead of paying for awful cable channels.
- v3rtex7740, on 04/16/2009, -0/+29It's not ALL private industry. TWC provides a UTILITY using taxpayer subsidized infrastructure, and with little competition, they are a government created monopoly. They really do work for US. This is price gouging.
- dreamache, on 04/15/2009, -0/+28***** time warner.. I've been with them from day 1 since it came to this area nearly 10 years ago. If I can switch to something else, I will
- SPECOPS, on 04/15/2009, -1/+28Get real - this is about cable companies being afraid you'll ditch the CABLE TV content for STREAMED VIDEO content (legal: yahoo/yahoo-HD, netflix/netflix-HD streaming, apple tv HD movies/tv, itunes HD movies/tv, amazon, hulu, etc.) --- NOT about actually restricting how many html pages you want to view, over and over again. Besides, as a side to your sillyness; if the html pages load faster you'll have more time to visit other fast loading html pages, therefore consuming even more data.
- Mtown, on 04/15/2009, -1/+28The moment these bandwith caps hit I am cutting my service with TWC.
- TheInformer, on 04/15/2009, -0/+251GB? Does TWC expect me to telnet everywhere?
- Nelagster, on 04/15/2009, -3/+28Ok well if now is not the time for net neutrality talk, when is? When it's been completely demolished by greedy corporations? I don't think so
- AmazingSteve, on 04/15/2009, -0/+24They are terrified that Netflix and such is going to swoop in and eat their lunch for them so they're going to make it prohibitively expensive to stream video from anywhere but their own service. The fact that they're crying about this just means that the Government and just put a HUGE kink in those plans. I love that their lawyers "warned" the FCC. Do they really think that the FCC couldn't make existence a miserable one if it so chose?
- proxybot767, on 04/15/2009, -1/+24WPA was cracked months ago..http://www.renderlab.net/projects/WPA-tables/
- BLyday, on 04/15/2009, -0/+22 I work for TWC and they can suck it.
- Renian, on 04/15/2009, -0/+21Neither; it's a cartel.
Assuming they don't straight-up merge and instead just kinda hang out. - cathpah, on 04/15/2009, -0/+19that's called a monopoly....and it's illegal
or is it an oligopoly? - fragmit, on 04/15/2009, -0/+19I can make this simple for TWC..
If you go ahead with this, I will unsubscribe and switch to FIOS.
You get nothing, and I continue to have unlimited internet. Have you people even thought about this? - Stingwolf, on 04/15/2009, -1/+19"They obviously have no idea of competition"
Unfortunately, that is because in many cases there is no competition. That is why they are able to do things like this. These stories will only get worse until broadband ISPs are no longer granted monopolies.
It's great if you can switch to another company, but for most people to vote with their wallet, they have to forfeit broadband access altogether. - dwoody187, on 04/16/2009, -0/+18I live in a city where TWC has a monopoly on cable service they have enjoyed for years. The government let this happen and should be held accountable for TWC having such a powerful card to play against us. I want choices. Where is free enterprise?
- Manther, on 04/15/2009, -0/+17We can only hope...
- irvin666, on 04/15/2009, -2/+18The main beef is that we need competition. Net-neutrality is something you really need to double check on. Read the entire bill.
- TheInformer, on 04/15/2009, -0/+16TWC is losing my business the day this hits my town. Period.
- Ymeg, on 04/15/2009, -5/+21I think Time Warner's caps are actually a pretty good idea. They obviously have no idea of competition, and this will only speed up their fall. Not sure about anyone else, but I'm going to make my opinion heard with my wallet.
- inactive, on 04/15/2009, -0/+16But the mindless drones will still subscribe, still pay and complain their way into compliance arguing "there's no other choice". You have a choice. Those who can should drop TWC and move to DSL for a while until TWC recognizes the error of their ways. I dropped them a while back and found I like DirecTV a lot more anyway. I pay Time Warner nothing and I'm happy about it. They can burn in hell. So can Comcast. Coax is ***** anyway. They need to clear the way for more FIOS and UVerse. The future is glass.
- mickaloha, on 04/16/2009, -0/+16Please only use 2400 baud rate. Do not use 9600 baud rate.
- Serinus, on 04/15/2009, -0/+15What does this have to do with Obama?
- SniperZero, on 04/16/2009, -1/+16Telstra Bigpond in Australia is 15cents a MB if you go over on a non-unlimited(cappage) plan thats $150/GB (they say 1000MB = 1GB >_<).
- trer, on 04/15/2009, -0/+14How can we get some real competition in this industry so that we don't have to be bullied around by companies like Time Warner and Comcast? C'mon, capitalism...WORK!
