readthewords.com — ReadTheWords is a free, web based service that assists people with written material. We do this by using TTS Technology, or Text To Speech Technology. Users of our service can generate a clear sounding audio file from almost any written material. We generate a voice that reads the words out loud, that you request us to read.

    It is possible to change the way the speech sounds by altering the input text. Liberal use of commas is the easiest way to get better phrasing, especially in long complex sentences. Overall speed can be controlled using XML-style tags from the SSML standard, e.g.
    this is speaking slowly .
    this is speaking fast .
    this is 50% slower .Precise pauses can also be inserted using the tag, e.g.
    Break for 100 milliseconds Okay, keep going."
    Break for 3 seconds Okay, keep going."Voices and languages can be intermixed using the tag, e.g.
    Crystal, 1 2 3.

  • ReadTheWords, on 03/31/2008, -0/+0I am happy to report that all the major bugs are fixed. There will be no more error messages, and the conversions are going extremely fast. We still have a few bugs reading the headings in RSS feeds, but the site is up and running again. I do apologize for the inconvenience. Please try out ReadTheWords.com again.
