- Popsgg, on 06/07/2008, -4/+23You think that is scary? All it was is a bunch of cubes bumping into each other. The part where it was moving like a spider was stop-motion, basically fake. Cornell University is a little bit further along then these guys are, you can see the potential of a few hundred or thousand of these things.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VyzVtTiax80- Popsgg, on 06/07/2008, -1/+7Found an even better example http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uIn-sMq8-Ls

- ophello, on 06/09/2008, -0/+1it was a time-lapse, smartguy. how is that fake? dont you think their credibility is at stake? Why would they use stop animation?
obviously these little guys take a while to move around. no use waiting around to see it, so they did it in time lapse.

- thelock65, on 06/07/2008, -1/+4It's the distant future...the year 2000. Things are much different since to robotic uprising of the late '90s. Affirmative
- Brainmodder, on 06/08/2008, -1/+2Don't worry the worst that could possibly happen is that we all get kickass furniture made out of these things that can move around, slowly causing use to die of heart disease due to lack of walking.

- rabasure, on 06/07/2008, -10/+40fantastic.The same was the case with the computer.Initially many feared that it would engulf the human society but as research went on the computer was made subservient to humans. The same is the case with robots.we need not worry about them.We will certainly have solution and this is said with an unflinching faith in the human talent and its innovative abilities.
- gn0stik, on 06/07/2008, -7/+17Uhmmm computers DID engluf human society. All of the bad predictions about what computers would do to us came true. Nobody really predicted the extent of the benefits, and the benefits, for now, outweight the drawbacks.
Oh, and nobody made them subservient, we didn't have to, it's not like they ever had sentience or served something else, or had a choice as to what they served. They don't think.. Yet, sometimes I wonder what is subservient to what. Thing is, this whole thing hasn't even come close to playing out.
The singularity WILL come, and has to a certain degree already, however we've just scratched the surface.- Lavarock, on 06/07/2008, -1/+2Yeah all the bad predictions... other than them killing everyone.
- gn0stik, on 06/09/2008, -0/+1that wasn't computers, or personal computers, that was robots, and we're a long way from any kind of AI becoming sentient. If it ever does, we'll pretty much be at it's mercy.

- LEPT0N, on 06/08/2008, -0/+3Lisa: But isn't that a bit short-sighted? What happens when we're overrun by lizards?
Skinner: No problem. We simply release wave after wave of Chinese needle snakes. They'll wipe out the lizards.
Lisa: But aren't the snakes even worse?
Skinner: Yes, but we're prepared for that. We've lined up a fabulous type of gorilla that thrives on snake meat.
Lisa: But then we're stuck with gorillas!
Skinner: No, that's the beautiful part. When wintertime rolls around, the gorillas simply freeze to death."

- maurypb, on 06/07/2008, -0/+8You don't think that this can lead to unpredictable - and surprisingly novel - results? Here is an example of simple "blocks" that are connected via relatively simple rules that "evolve" into "organisms" that can swim, fly, run, fight etc. They are software entities in a simulation of a physical world, using genetic algorithms to "breed" the fittest competitors - the ones that through recombination and mutation fulfill the goals the best.
It's pretty unbelievable how organic their motions look, while at the same time their physical embodiments (well, simulated embodiments) are so simplistic.
And this is from '94! The author of this software, Carl Sims, is a very bright fellow.
http://www.archive.org/details/sims_evolved_virtua ...- aadnk, on 06/08/2008, -0/+1Dugg for Carl Sims and evolutionary algorithms.
- Abomonog, on 06/08/2008, -3/+1Do me a favor get one to evolve into a dildo for my girlfriend.
- halfdirt, on 06/08/2008, -0/+1Oh yes your 'girlfriend' needs a dildo.
It's not for you, it's for your 'girlfriend' . . .
- halfdirt, on 06/08/2008, -0/+1Oh yes your 'girlfriend' needs a dildo.
- alekkss, on 06/07/2008, -5/+1What does this have to do with anything?
- lodibug3, on 06/07/2008, -0/+1I find the technology amazing... and want a few to clean my home! We watch too much science fiction if we think they'll take over the world.
- NYCPALADIN, on 06/07/2008, -8/+1The video was removed.
- stfucupcake, on 06/07/2008, -0/+1Nope, just keep refreshing the page. I get that a lot on youtube.
- spyd3rweb, on 06/07/2008, -0/+2So uhh, what are we going to need humans for once we have robots to do everything?
- Qumahlin, on 06/07/2008, -1/+3Service the robots.

- shagg187, on 06/07/2008, -9/+4Fake! The "demonstration" was no better than the lego animations
That said, I'm afraid that legos might take over before these robots will.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=O-tkqpHnxTI- doople, on 06/07/2008, -0/+2Good eye, genius. Never mind the fact that they clearly said it was a mock-up and the robots currently can't actually assemble.
