that's why i posted link to Official Google Blog :) - Roger, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Very nice, looks alot like GMail.
First Reader now Groups. Glad to see Google is consolidating the look of their sites. - jamshid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6That's cool, somebody needs to bring some order back to "discussion groups" on the web. I miss USENET (newsgroups). Things are a little too chaotic now with every site having its own (often lame) forums / bulletin boards and no central place for discussing a topic. E.g., there are dozens of little J2ME (Java on mobile programming) forums and each vendor has their own forum, but it would be much more productive if most of that discussion was centralized/shared/searchable.

- rassoodock, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Let's not forget the most important question. Is it easier to remove old posts that you made as a teenager with your real name and are now embarrassing to you due to immature remarks/drug referencs?
- ejp1082, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Meh. There's still no real nested view for the messages (you have to use the tree on the side if you want to know whether the message was a reply to the one above it), it still has nothing but that lame ten-at-a-time view, and it doesn't remember the read-state for individual messages.
As a front-end for usenet, I still find it lacking. - dextroz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4whats up with these file limits cropping up everywhere on google? First Picasaweb has a 100/200MB limit, then google pages has a 100MB limit and now after finally adding file support, groups has 100MB limit!? Wtf?
I thought Google was all about put up all the info online that you want. The weird thing is they have no video upload size limit. I've already got 5 gigs online i google video. this is just retarded.
good revision to ggroups though - i like it with this consistent gmail look. - cplusplus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Some good ideas there. I hope Usenet lives forever.
- aburd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Adding Google Pages integration is pretty cool.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3daaaaamn that's pretty cool, its kinda like basecamp or something they should keep pushing that idea I really really like the direction they're going with this.
- vtrain, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Seems a nice tool and a nice upgrade but still too buggy. I tried to create some pages for a group that I manage and after two edits I got a message that all the new features were having problems so were turned off for a while :(
I think I will wait a few weeks before I try to use it again. - sanman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Anyone remember the old Dejanews website for newsgroups? That was what Google bought out and turned into Google newsgroups. I used to love the Dejanews interface, which had the thread trees and easy viewing. When Google took it over, I remember hearing that there were a flood of complaints, because they didn't keep the old interface. I think Dejanews had the best setup at the time, and Google took it a step backward. If Dejanews had still continued on, they probably would have an even more improved interface by now.
- faultybydesign, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Personally, I feel it's a very nice upgrade. Really like it after an hour's use!
- greyfade, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I wish they'd release Trogdor as OSS. Google Pages rocks, but they obfuscated the ***** out of Trogdor.
- rblinne, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2It strikes me more as back to future. It reminded me of DejaNews before it was bought by Google.
- transfire, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2One last thing. You guys turned me down for an interface design job. That was big mistake!
- MindTrigger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I just think usenet is garbage these days. too much spam and bs.
- VivekMChawla, on 04/07/2009, -0/+1Sorry, I have not read any of the comments up to this point. I'm just so excited about this new interface. Wow. I've been using Google groups for the past few months...and this new stuff just blows me away. I'm so stoked about this. :)
- vdxc, on 09/29/2008, -0/+1I'm in the UK and I see it
- byronm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1still sucks.. nothing beats the good old days of Deja to find the old stuff and using your favorite news reader to NNTP the rest.
- transfire, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I don't like it and I use google groups all day every day. Fist of all, where are my stared topics on the cover page? Secondly, and more importantly please move the side bar back to the left side of the screen and ditch the dropdown menu for My Groups. Drop down menus should not be used for menus generally. It's like having a giant refrigerator stuffed to the brim. You forget what you have b/c you never see it.
- kstagg, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Hey, I love my gmail account but uh - wtf does Google have against Folders? No folders in my gmail account - no folders in the google groups? Right now I'm leaning towards using meetup.com to manage my group. Sure, I have to pay - but look at the features and GUI for crying out loud - its slick. Yeah, I know - no folders there either - but there is a workaround.
- fatdog789, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2What did you expect? it's Google. It'll be perpetually in beta and offer a few nifty features at the expense of constant bugs and downtime.
- MrCalifornia, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Why not just reply to THAT comment?
- tehJR, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3No, Digg is awesome. You suck.
- dutter, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2I thought the same thing.
- madjoe, on 10/12/2007, -7/+5No alt.binaries?
:( - superking, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0that rocks, it takes the fancy interface out of usenet news
- ajmagnu, on 10/12/2007, -11/+8kind of blah to me.
oh wait, google made it?
wow! awesome! - idlegamer, on 10/12/2007, -15/+2GO AWAY GOOGLE FAN BOYS!
Digg is like a advertising service for Google these days. IT SUCKS
