The Web As We Know It... Right Now
0at.org — Great illustration deatiling the current state of the web...

- digg it
- chedderfiend, on 07/07/2008, -4/+153is there a term for this super crisp 'web 2.0' art? digg's got it (sorta), apple embodies it, they used it in this. Its almost like minimalism or something, clean, crisp.. and very pretty.
does it have a name? do you know what i'm talking about?
whatever it is, I like it.- fuzzymonkey, on 07/08/2008, -10/+33I may be wrong, but I believe the term you are looking for is 'awesome'
- TehJoe, on 07/08/2008, -0/+1Amen.
- anonymousleaf, on 07/08/2008, -1/+41It was called "clean" before everyone dirtied it up.
- HeLLFyRe490, on 07/08/2008, -11/+2*cough cough* Microsoft *cough* Windows Vista *cough*
- DragonForce4, on 07/08/2008, -0/+1Robitussin
- Khanvalescent, on 07/08/2008, -1/+124Vector (based) art, I believe.
- nmnnotmyname, on 07/08/2008, -18/+6Kinda but not really.. Vector art also encompasses many things. Flash animations certainly aren't all clean style. And lets not even get into Anime/Cartoon art done with vectors.
- nmnnotmyname, on 07/08/2008, -1/+11I should've been more clear. Obviously vector art is art described by shapes and gradiants. Obviously not everything i mentioned is always done in vector form (Some, rarely.)
In fact, Web 2.0ish art isn't really vector art unless you make it using vectors - something you really don't have to do. - Lunarbunny, on 07/08/2008, -1/+3While it is true that this stuff is often made using vectors, you can get other looks with vectors as well, for example http://lapinlunaire.deviantart.com/art/AH-1W-Super ...
Simply calling it vector art is like calling the Mona Lisa "oil on canvas" It may be true but it's not very descriptive.
- nmnnotmyname, on 07/08/2008, -1/+3I don't know that there is a term for it, but I find it's usually just simplistic, glossy art. Some people dislike it but I personally find it alright.
- Canadian0207, on 07/08/2008, -1/+16i was going to say, i for one enjoy the glossy art of web 2.0. I hope that doesn't go away.
check out www.thinkgos.com or www.plaxo.com (two really well designed sites based on that concept)- Nobiting, on 07/08/2008, -0/+6dirty and grungy:
http://wowriot.gameriot.com/
http://misprintedtype.com/v3/fonts.php - pakke, on 07/08/2008, -1/+6Don't worry, they've been predicting the death of the glossy effect since the first glossy button appeared in the early years of web 1.0.
- rompom7, on 07/08/2008, -1/+5That's the thing about trends in style. Everyone thinks they are awesome until the next thing comes along. At first you'll be like "nah, I still like the 'old' style". But then it will get more and more popular because everyone slowly changes their opinion as the trend grows. As the use of the trend becomes more mainstream, its not uncommon to hear people say how "they saw that style ages ago!" and the truth is they probably didn't like it when they first saw it.
- Nobiting, on 07/08/2008, -0/+6dirty and grungy:
- Archer007, on 07/08/2008, -1/+13Lets call it clean, crisp, minimalism.
- dan0964, on 07/08/2008, -2/+10clcrnimalism ?
- jebaird, on 07/08/2008, -0/+1less = more
- tuz100, on 07/08/2008, -4/+2Curved corners.
- Pakman20, on 07/08/2008, -11/+1i always called the style "minimalistic"
"web 3.0", anybody? - Daniel591992, on 07/08/2008, -0/+4The font surely makes it look nice. What is it?
- ryleyleckie, on 07/08/2008, -0/+9crispinimalism
- Andon, on 07/08/2008, -0/+7Scrumtrulescent.
- Rikka, on 07/08/2008, -0/+3toaster strudel.
- atdakore, on 07/08/2008, -1/+7Its called "Excellent" Design.
- HencheMann, on 07/08/2008, -0/+40m i n i m a l i s m .
- wanderingsun, on 07/08/2008, -0/+3I've been wondering what the term is for the curly design... like little vines all over the place.. and in corners. It looks like it'd take forever to do.
- transfuse, on 07/08/2008, -0/+5Those are generally referred to as 'ornaments', but they've never had a specific name really.
And yes, the more detailed ones do take quite a while to do properly. It's surprisingly hard. - enamresu, on 07/08/2008, -0/+2http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Art_Nouveau
'flowing curvilinear' describes the type of ornamentation you're talking about, I believe.
- transfuse, on 07/08/2008, -0/+5Those are generally referred to as 'ornaments', but they've never had a specific name really.
- Zakolus, on 07/08/2008, -5/+3One could argue semantics and try to define it as an art-form, the truth is, art is whatever the end-user (you) makes it. In real-life or on the web, that fact still holds true.
- djnack, on 07/08/2008, -0/+3Good minimalism design is what I would call it. IMO the UI should be as transparent as possible to the user, allowing the content to shine. This of course doesn't mean it has to look *****. Just not be gaudy.
- Spudster, on 07/08/2008, -1/+2Modern art was based on the idea that everything should be clean, structured and functional. It was a rejection of the messy elaborate styles from previous years (notice how 1950's print ads all had very messy, handwritten ad styles, while the 60's had very clean and easy to read words?) However, over time, Post-Modernism rose as a rebellion against Modern art. I guess we're reaching a Post-Post-Modern art stage now...
I recommend people watch the documentary Helvetica. Fascinating stuff. - snaf2k, on 07/08/2008, -1/+2its called "trendy" :)
I think it came from that era of deviantart when angles started to make sense - JDoms, on 07/08/2008, -8/+3whatever it is I HATE IT
- kinggimped, on 07/08/2008, -5/+2Pretty sure it's just called Web 2.0.

- mrbeagle, on 07/08/2008, -1/+8I was expecting some kind of diagram listing all the major internet hubs and their traffic, etc. Was sorely disappointed.

I tried it, but honestly I don't like it very much. I still prefer Twitter, it's minimal and gets the work done without all that "karma" and emoticons and useless stuff.
