- cmgarcia, on 08/20/2008, -4/+69I love The Pirate Bay.
- vfreak2, on 08/21/2008, -4/+28TPB are fighters, no doubt about that. Fighters for justice. AND culture and the distribution of it.
They will long be my heroes. - Damionlecroix, on 08/20/2008, -7/+22I wonder who lets these people become judges when they obviously can't interpret the law. I mean A. they aren't hosting anything illegal so technically they aren't breaking the law, i.e. it would be like banning hardware stores for selling crow bars used to commit crimes. B. How can one judge order every ISP in a country to block a site, shouldn't that take maybe a law being passed instead? C. The law is suppose to be hear to protect the people. If the majority of people are obviously doing something that isn't really harming anyone then WTF is the law doing intervening, i.e. also true in cases of light drugs such as Marijuana and Absinthe..
boredatworkproductions.com - Morghin, on 08/21/2008, -3/+17Not only do they fail at law, they fail at publicity. All they achieve is even more PR for TPB which creates more traffic, which in turn creates more consternation for them.
If they want to win they need to observe, learn, and compete. - hugolp, on 08/21/2008, -2/+14Ill put it simple so even a brain like yours can understand it: copying is different than taking.
- btschul, on 08/21/2008, -1/+11Yeah, because art isn't really art unless you pay for it.
- mechfluff, on 08/21/2008, -1/+10A Pirate's life for me.
- HillerMylife, on 08/21/2008, -1/+8Whether you agree with them or not, the folks at The Pirate Bay are more politically brilliant than half the people in government.
- mijelh, on 08/21/2008, -1/+8And here we go again with the 25+ year old retarded who equate free share of non-copyrighted material (like torrent files) with some kind of undefined copyright infringement.
Torrent files are not copyrighted, nor contain copyrighted information. Maybe you thought you can download movies or music from The Pirate Bay. Well... you can't.
Read something on the subject before start talking crap about stuff you just know nothing about. - cloudberries, on 08/21/2008, -2/+9A. No, you're not a murderer. You're an accessory to the crime, or some bollocks like that. It's still nothing like selling crowbars. Or downloading torrent files.
B. Judges are not Robocop
C. The law isn't Robocop either - btschul, on 08/21/2008, -2/+7They didn't start calling themselves "pirates". The music industry started calling them "pirates", and they just picked up on it to piss them off. The whole proud of being a pirate thing is just a jab at the ***** in the music industry.
- mijelh, on 08/21/2008, -0/+5The Italian legal system is giving "the finger" to common sense and even to the minimum standard of justice on a daily basis (just check Berlusconi's processes or the famous 'tight jeans rape ruling'). This case should not be any different.
On the other hand this petulant children have no copyrighted on their servers (maybe you should check some technical info on torrents), so how can anyone accuse them of infringement of something they don't even have (and never had) is by far beyond me. - artfiend77, on 08/21/2008, -0/+5Hey, I found some torrents thatnks to Google...maybe I should sue them?
- BeefBaron, on 08/21/2008, -0/+4Love Live? Sounds like some creepy swingers concert.
- Travelsonic, on 08/21/2008, -0/+4Emotion gets in the way of a factually enriching, sensible debate.
"hope each and every one of you who supports TPB and what they do end up creating something that gets stolen so you can see how great TPB really is not."
This argument is old, and no less flawed than it is today.
People create all the time. You don't have to create, or not create to hold a viewpoint so long as it can be rationally debated. Furthermore, IMO, holding a position like creating content is no excuse to let yourself become factually inaccurate. Nothing is getting stolen from you. Nothing. Ive created many a thing, people have copied it, but nothing disappears, as is required logically. You can't tell me honestly that you believe such a loaded, biased, self-serving, purely emotional argument, and expect to win against intellectuals who might or might not hold a moral view similar to yours, but doesn't let that get in the way of fact when need be, and especially not logical, rational thought.. - hexydes, on 08/21/2008, -0/+4Had the media industry simply come up with a fair and quality pay service around the time of Napster, there would be very little piracy today. Because they've fought and fought and fought to keep the market from moving where it wants to go (online digital distribution), they've simply (unintentionally) forced the idea in peoples' heads that if it comes from the Internet, it should be free.
The fact that they aren't making ten times what DVD sales made right now by online distribution is no one's fault but their own. And guess what, now it's too late. The model is well-established, and they now have to compete against "free".
*clap* *clap* *clap* - Qxzkjp, on 08/21/2008, -2/+6And C is what the problem is with most legal systems today. It shouldn't be. It's for protecting people from people. Not to protect multinational corporations.
And B is pretty ***** up.
A isn't really analogous. It's more like, if I told you that Dodgy Dave has some stolen merchandise he'd like to sell, am I a theif? - masroorak47, on 08/21/2008, -1/+5great
- Travelsonic, on 08/21/2008, -1/+5Here we go with the factually inept.
1) The piracy age range is more between teens and 20s
2) Copyright infringement is not theft, no matter how much you try to factually spin it.
3) only a small portion actually believe in equating piracy to free speech or being on a cruscade.
YAY NUMBING THE MIND OF THE RATIONALLY THINKING! - mijelh, on 08/21/2008, -0/+4Your statement "helping murder is a crime => helping file share is a crime" is an incredibly obvious fallacy.
Just one of the many possible counter-arguments to disprove your fallacy:
Murder is intrinsically illegal, file sharing is not.
Facilitating something that is not intrinsically illegal is not a crime. If it were, the person who sold me the ice axe I used to kill my ex-boss would be a criminal.... just ridiculous. - vilago, on 08/21/2008, -1/+5i'll cheat the system. whatever is the cheapest/easiest way i will do. and right now downloading from piratebay is the easiest method to get music. sorry if you want to have an intellectual struggle over it but your opinion wont change my mind.
- dsmx, on 08/21/2008, -0/+4Especially on the legal side one is a criminal case which gets you jail time the other is a civil case which you can only get fined.
- inactive, on 08/21/2008, -0/+4I was thinking the same thing. TPB doesn't host any copyrighted material they are just a search engine, nothing more.
I just found this, check it out
http://digg.com/software/GoogleTorrents_com_search ... - btschul, on 08/21/2008, -1/+5Actually, it's more like Best Buy had an unlimited supply of computers and were charging full price for them, and there was a Swedish guy sitting in the parking lot, also with an unlimited supply of computers, except his were free. What would you do?
- Darksci, on 08/21/2008, -2/+6Ads? I never see any ads?
Oh wait... I use adblock... - btschul, on 08/21/2008, -0/+4Actually, no, it's more like Best Buy has an unlimited supply of computers that they are selling for about 4 times more than they are worth, and these computers have a special "Best Buy Attachment" that makes them so they can only be used for what Best buy wants you to use them for when Best Buy wants you to use them. Then there is a Swedish dude sitting in the parking lot with an unlimited supply of the same type of computer without any DRM ahh...ahem... I mean "Best Buy Attachment", and he is giving them away for free. What would you do?
- mijelh, on 08/21/2008, -0/+4...your coment is
- btschul, on 08/21/2008, -1/+5You're in the wrong place, buddy.
- toyrifle1, on 08/21/2008, -2/+6Italy should block google to then....
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=eureka+torren ... - btschul, on 08/21/2008, -0/+3Welcome to my Blocked List. I think you will really enjoy it here. There are lots of people just like you to talk to and hang out with.
- Meocross, on 08/21/2008, -0/+3More like the piracy Age range is between teens and the 40s.
i have a my dad is a active pirate in the range of 40 years old - Travelsonic, on 08/21/2008, -1/+4So if I go to a friend's house, I can't listen to his music, watch his movies, or play his games?
Lying loser. - nafnosseb, on 08/21/2008, -0/+3Whoops, they are not stealing though. Should have said that about a site actually hosting.
- hugolp, on 08/21/2008, -0/+3Really you can get fined by copying a song? I live in Barcelona and here is not ilegal to copy a song, as long as you dont trade with it. If you copy it for personal use then its not ilegal. So in the US you can not share a song with your friends? Thats crazy.
- javaroast, on 08/21/2008, -0/+3@Kelmon and Luke
As much as the RIAA, the Recording and movie studios and their ilk would like to change it Murder cases and copyright infringement have absolutely nothing in common legally. - amanoj, on 08/21/2008, -0/+3TPB FTW!!!
- daridave, on 08/21/2008, -0/+3Wouldn't it be just BIG if Google started listing torrents directly?
- nafnosseb, on 08/21/2008, -0/+3Also, it seems as though you(@Kelmon) want the law to go against them because you are irritated by them. That should automatically disqualify you from ever commenting on law again.
- MattBlackCat, on 08/21/2008, -2/+4They should change their name to "The Berlusconi Bay" and get then they would be immune to that oxymoron, Italain Justice.
- Peck3277, on 08/21/2008, -0/+2Oh the irony!
- mijelh, on 08/21/2008, -0/+2They just provide information on files that OTHER people are sharing through the net. If you make a fraudulent use of it, that's your problem, not theirs.
By the way, nobody has ever proved that TPB are making any profit, and there are even some people that claim it's operating at a loss:
http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20080201-pira ...
But I'm sure you have better information than the rest of us, just poor mortals. Please, enlighten us!! - nafnosseb, on 08/21/2008, -0/+2go ahead have an opinion, but if your reason that a court ruling should go against someone is that they are irritating you, then you will find a lot of people asking for their 20 seconds of listening back.
- javaroast, on 08/21/2008, -0/+2Sometime civil disobedience is a potent weapon in righting injustices or in this case fixing a system that has gotten out of control. You don't seem to mention that the recording industry has itself flouted the law on more than one occasion. Should they be locked up for price fixing, rootkits, and filing nuisance lawsuits? If you are consistent in your logic there can only be one answer.
We've gone through this type of thing throughout history when technology has improved our ability to copy. See the Printing press and VCR for good examples. - n3demonic, on 08/21/2008, -1/+2Kelmon, here's an analogy for you if you've heard of the OJ Simpson case. He was so guilty and his whole trial was utter ***** that it defies belief. He wasn't convicted criminally but he lost the civil case that Nicole's family brought down on him. Just because it's a open and shut case in the eyes of the public, it still isn't so in law.
LukeBeaumont, in case A. The Pirate Bay didn't go out and hire someone to stream nor download the copyright material. Also, in your analogy the hirer won't be tried for aiding or abetting the crime so it is not "contributing" as your analogy goes. - inactive, on 08/21/2008, -0/+1YOU ARE A PIRATE!
- Meocross, on 08/21/2008, -0/+1Now that i think about it, if these corporate idiots keep putting the piratebay in the Headlines, all they are doing is making the site known to MORE PEOPLE, if they keep this up TPB userbase will rival Mininova's and they will sit there shooting themselves in the foot.
- mechfluff, on 08/21/2008, -1/+2SPAM!
You Fail - Meocross, on 08/21/2008, -0/+1why are you getting buried! that song on youtube is epic
- Travelsonic, on 08/21/2008, -1/+2Wow, some point. Stereotyping, libel, and the ilk. You really must be an intellectual.
Buried. Loser. -
