- Tiak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+47More like being paid to do difficult work the majority of the time, while goofing off on your own projects when you get bored in a paradise... But close enough.
- emom, on 10/12/2007, -1/+46That's the first time I actually considered working for someone else in a long, long time.
- monergism, on 10/12/2007, -1/+33We get paid to :)
- Qwiggalo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+32That's what we do.

- VeryAngryJim, on 10/12/2007, -1/+24because this is at least two years old and everyone's seen it before, so they know what they are digging even as the site is unreachable.
- underdog5004, on 10/12/2007, -3/+25I swear, if anyone says, "OMG, only 32 diggs and it's down!", bad things will happen.
- gubin09, on 10/12/2007, -0/+22The lifeguard is pretty ridiculous
- mattmcm, on 10/12/2007, -2/+23503? Oh, the horror!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+26Because google knows everything. Everything includes the fact that dogs are way better than cats. If you can't figure this out, you are not google employee material. Sorry to be the one to break it to you.
- 1111, on 10/12/2007, -0/+21I find it annoying as well, but I also find the "diggs not equal views" equally as annoying. There is definitely a correlation between the two(which may depend on day of the week, time of day and other factors). So, would you really prefer people saying "32*1000 +- 10% views and it is down!"?
- Neiby, on 10/12/2007, -3/+24OMG, only 60 diggs and it's down!
- tcwood00, on 10/12/2007, -0/+20and...because people have put up mirrors to the site so that they can see it...just not on the same site
- mattmcm, on 10/12/2007, -2/+22So they can come back to it later, when the site is back up.
- reitsu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14By looking at those pictures, it seems like they actually live there.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+19Its like being paid to do nothing in a paradise.
- OutrightLie, on 10/12/2007, -9/+21Sorry for the comment abuse... but working mirror:

- norsurfit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12What happens if somebody pees in the never-ending pool? Ouch...
- sonnyF, on 10/12/2007, -7/+16How come dogs, and apparently a snake, are allowed inside the Google workspace and not cats?
- changyang1230, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Dried cat feces spread toxoplasmosis, a disease which would cause defect in a baby if a pregnant woman gets it.
- thenativeraver, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9I felt like that when I saw this:
http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2005/12/im-feeling-silly.html - xekko, on 10/12/2007, -9/+17No matter how good the company, I'd rather work for myself any day. Being able to choose when and how you work is so much more valuable than any of these perks. I even get to choose which hair dressers I go to, and buy great food from shops that aren't owned by the company I work for!
Freelance FTW. - Picket, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8There is actually 9 Cafe's on site in MV and the food is all free.
- foolfromhell, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11I have a theory why they have this.
Google employees who get paid in Google Stocks have been leaving Google after becoming millionaires to make their own startups etc.
Google probably needs them to stay there and offers incentives.
So, the best thing about being a Google Employee is that you have a much higher chance of being a millionaire... - spoonie11, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9A pool table, dogs in the office, lava lamps on people's desks (!), a cafeteria with decent food... my GOD these people work in frickin paradise!!!
Seriously, there are at least a dozen places to work in Seattle with all the same amenities. Honestly, what's the big whoop. People don't work at Google because there's a one man swimming pool (which strangely reminds me of the Jim Carrey hot-tub life guard skit on SNL). They work there because the stock is making them rich. - changyang1230, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Why in the world am I getting dugg down? This is a real concern with cats and I'm a medical student.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toxoplasmosis - nyx210, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10Err... why are people still digging this even when the site's down?
- polypropglop, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I'll take a job at the DMV any day over this. Those people look tortured!
- undersky, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8because some people can be allergic to cats, but almost no one is to dogs.
- tuzziel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Cmon, those are still employees..
that's nothing compared to be living off your own devices. - sphark, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6No, no. You mean "the food are all free."
- Xanadude, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7What they leave out - and what I've seen on a couple of visits - is the spectacle of families coming to have dinner in the cafeteria because it's the only way the kids get to see their father or mother. No thanks.
- froinlaven, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I visited the googleplex for an interview in March, and the funniest thing was seeing one lifeguard watching one guy swim in that infinity pool. Easiest. Job. Ever. (I'm talking about the lifeguard)
- MadOgre, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4So do they do any work there?
- wiihippie, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6because they walk all over the ***** keyboard
- motheroats, on 10/12/2007, -0/+42 for 1 on piracy
- xekko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I wouldn't call working in an office paradise. Although they have lots of cool distractions, most employees there work all the hours of the day stuck on their ass behind a computer screen, and late into the night. You never leave the Googleplex, you don't have a life outside the Googleplex. For me, paradise isn't a walled garden. I like the fact I don't spend my entire life at work, thanks very much!
- jackmyang, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Bathtub lifeguard. They've got some nice positions to fill.
- samuelcotterall, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5These are old. Taken from a Time Magazine article called "Life in the Googleplex":

Just change 1 bit in the key, you'll feel better. - 0crabby0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Also don't forget Cat Scratch Disease
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cat_scratch_disease - rassoodock, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@foolfromhell: most Google employees wont become millionaires at this point. You had to be in at the ground level, i'm sure. The other reason for having all that stuff is to give employees no reason to ever have to leave the office
- flipmeat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Comes with a free pair of golden handcuffs.
- opiv421, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3dogs and snakes eat cats
