- Gregd, on 10/12/2007, -7/+81Just so we're clear...this isn't my blog.
- titlesaysitall, on 10/12/2007, -3/+48Oh and BTW, why is everyone against Blogs? How esle is anyone supposed to display their content? Blogs are a free and easy way to do it. Get over yourself.
- Gregd, on 10/12/2007, -5/+37@titlesaysitall
If you visit wikipedia for the definition of blog, it states, "A weblog, which is usually shortened to blog, is a type of website where entries are made (such as in a journal or diary), displayed in a reverse chronological order." Ok, so far digg fits this. It then goes on to say, "Blogs often provide commentary or news and information on a particular subject, such as food, politics, or local news; some function as more personal online diaries." Wow! Digg still fits the bill..."A typical blog combines text, images, and links to other blogs, web pages, and other media related to its topic. "
Therefore, digg = blog - mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -7/+38I'm an oxygen fanboy.
- titlesaysitall, on 10/12/2007, -8/+33So I like sandwiches, does that make me a fanboy?
- Herolint, on 10/12/2007, -3/+20I think the reason that people on Digg get upset when a blog is posted is that they feel that somehow the owner of the blog is benefiting unfairly through ad revenue or something.
Personally, I don't care. I figure if it makes it to Digg's front page, the content was interesting to enough people that the creator of it deserves some ad revenue for the effort. - girlsdiggittoo, on 10/12/2007, -4/+18i just think digg is awesome. i read the article in business week and knew i had to join when i read that digg's army was 94% male.
love,
fangirl? - mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -5/+12Whoa cool, you came here after reading the Businessweek article? I guess something good came from it. (If you haven't heard, the article was very inaccurate and falsely portrayed Kevin Rose as a multi-millionaire).
Anyway, it's awsome that you joined, we need more digg girls. - girlsdiggittoo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9you know, i'm a newbie and all, but i think people here are in it for the news, too. i mean, how can you not stop to digg a story about a guy in 120 t-shirts or the latest gadgets? ego boost? well, yeah. but good stories first. part of being cool is being an informed person. getting informed is half the battle. we read.
- jesusphreak, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8You know, Digg really is a great idea. The only problem is the pure amount of crap that gets on the frontpage and in the comments. I'd say something like 3/4ths of it is just noise, and it gets more and more difficult to find good content on it these days. I actually read an interesting article about it just tonight (note: this isn't my blog or the blog of anyone I know, I just think he's right):
http://poptech.blogspot.com/2006/07/problems-with-diggcom.html - mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9Hmm.. maybe that's why CNET referred to Digg as a "blog-based" site yesterday..
http://news.com.com/1606-2_3-6106074.html?part=rss&tag=6106074&subj=news - standsolid, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9Intersting read, but is anyone else annoyed by Gregd's avatar?
Everytime one of his stories hits the frontpage, It makes it look as if digg implemented a new feature. - mancat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Who would've thought that a web site based around technology ralated topics would be mostly male?
- kjartan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I love digg and all, but how many more stories do have to be about how great it is? People are kinda kicking a dead pig with all these praise-stories.
- toastgodsupreme, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8I come here for an action packed clicking frenzy!!
That's the draw of Digg! - titlesaysitall, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7I know you are a newb and all but please use the reply button. It will help people locate whom you are directing your comment to and make it easier to see everything with out having to scroll through the rest of the thread.
- titlesaysitall, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Yes
- patbuzz86, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2two dots on a graph made by a twelve year old got 1028 diggs? SAD
- OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3"Just so we're clear...this isn't my blog."
I didn't imply it was your blog GregD. I guess it came across that way for some reason. - fiv3isaliv3, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7Good point... I mean he did create the site.
- girlsdiggittoo, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6btw, standsolid, i am female. bite me.
- mousky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What is the point of promoting a story about how wonderful digg to the front page of digg? Isn't that preaching to the converted?
- glafira, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I agree, I do not think Kevin rose was invisioning this crazy utopia for tech users(even though thats what it is), I think he just though Social+News, and the rest came by itself.
- GWiz, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Thank you! Nail on the head.
- girlsdiggittoo, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5i love his avatar.
- DigitalBrian, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3You got to be kidding me? Digg is far from genius, Digg is simple and useful thats all it is.
- boxomojo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3worst graph ever
- gwdigg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I would say the genius of digg was getting free television advertising to a "tech" audience on TSS. That certainly helped get the project off the ground.
- Twango, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3The genius of Digg is that so few people ask how ... in detail ... stories make it to the front page. Or what happens to all the rest.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I Like Pie.
- girlsdiggittoo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4thanks mrassman. yeah, i read about the inaccuracies. most of the money he makes just goes back into digg, which to me just proves how sweet it all is. it's really about the content and the people, not the money. not that money is bad. and, yeah, girls like news, too.
- fjcaiii, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Does anybody know of a "Digg alike" application that I can run from my website?
- esoterroriffik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Every one linking stories from the same rss feeds be it wired, 43 folders, lifehacker, cnet, engadget, slashdot, techdirt, techcrunch, boingboing, apple related fan-sites, twit, youtube... Isn't it neat we all read the same stuff? Aren't you upset when some one diggs a story 30 seconds before you were about to digg said story? So what's a digger to do but digg digg- blah. If I'm using it, I must know. Quit clogging the tubes and bury the dugg digg on digg posts.
- kplayr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Come on folk, digg is nothing more than a forum.
Subjects are just hyperlinked and you can bump things to the frontpage without leaving a comment.
Let's not get too carried away here - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Nothing's perfect but at least its easier to filter through the crap on digg.
- TheSource, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4I think the genius of Digg are the stories about Digg that are dugg by digg users...
Digging a Digg story "irony" comment #2,342,452 - D3koy, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4OK, got it, Digg = good. Anything else? Not to be a punk(may be too late for that) but give it up we all like Digg because we are reading this ON DIGG. IMO, if you have nothing to add, get out of the way. If you want to make a REAL impact write this on that one Netscape Digg-attempt and make people use Digg, not that filth.
- RamezaniK, on 10/12/2007, -6/+6@p9s50W5k4GUD2c6:
I wonder how many pages you get when you search for "/sarcasm". - MrViklund, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2LOL... And? :P
- RandomGuySteve, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4I don't think digg is that great of idea at all. There are better "news aggregate" sites out there, and most of them have better communities, better website technology, and more snark, or sarcastic contempt.
You think making it into a "brand" by calling everything "Digg" will convert people. I see as nothing more than tripe. Digged Down, Digged up, DiggedIt, Diggers, Dugg. Whatever. I've honestly never seen an undeserving website more full of itself.
One last thing, Captchas are the most annoying way I've encountered to institute a flood protection system. - cquinnd, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I've heard of Occams Razor, and it is a principle that has nothing to do with how complex an idea or invention is. Just in how much complexity one should apply when drawing a conclusion based on the available information.
You can still come to the wrong conclusion with Occams Razor, it is a concept that
is designed to help simplify the process of coming to a conclusion, not to fill in the
conclusion itself. - mousky, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Oh, look, it's the weekly "look how wonderful digg is" post. It is a sure sign that quality control is taking a nose dive.
- corsairstw, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4Kevin deserves a lot of credit for digg.
- standsolid, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2woah, friend. Making a joke.
- JolietJake, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3Digg is a great site, I found out about it when Kevin mentioned it on Twit and I've been a member ever since.
- TheWalkingDude, on 10/12/2007, -9/+8My "blog" is banned from being submitted to Digg :-(
It's says that my blog has been reported as a news middle man, which is inaccurate. I make large indexes of links. I just needed a place to gather them together, submitting them individually would take thousands of submissions. Up until it got banned it made the front page 6 times. I think people are too trigger happy in reporting things; they use emotion over logic. My blog doesn't even have ads; I was just trying to provide a cool service and maybe increase my digg rank. Meh.

'... who cares?"
Well going by the way digg works:
o User submits story
o Others users digg it if they like it
It would seem that the digg userBase cares about them. If they didnt they wouldn't digg it.
Now if you really, truly don't like it then Do Not Read it. And, many diggers keep forgetting this, if you DONT read it DONT comment on it. - girlsdiggittoo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1wow, you suck. gregd is not an ass-vagina.
- chron, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Proper Engrish is a must.
The characterisations are less than stellar.
Apparently the author enjoys belittling people. - corsairstw, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Yeah, because of all the stories about digg that reach the front page, I think there should be a special category under "Technology" that simply covers digg news.
Maybe not though. -

What is Digg?
