- AnonBuffalo, on 12/23/2008, -0/+39I used electricity quite a bit this year.
- tange1, on 12/23/2008, -1/+393D Cinema? Are you serious? This is not new nor innovative. I don't see how its shaped 2008.
- 0260, on 12/23/2008, -1/+34I understood none of these. Why did they stop making VHS tapes?!
- diggkris, on 12/23/2008, -0/+33Didn't think 3D movies really "shaped 2008" but thats my opinion....
- toxicityj, on 12/23/2008, -0/+19well I'd imagine that's why it was on the list.
- jggube, on 12/23/2008, -11/+27Twitter was really big this year.
- vroom101, on 12/23/2008, -0/+14Here's a "technology" for easier reading: The-Article-On-One-Page-URL: http://www.popularmechanics.com/technology/industr ... (www.popularmechanics.com/technology/industry/4296729.html?nav=hpPrint&do=print)
- JKAL, on 12/24/2008, -1/+12Apparently the technology to put relatively small articles in ONE page has not been discovered yet, here's hopping for 2009!
- ohplease, on 12/23/2008, -2/+13
I'm a technology person and I don't use any of those technologies. - inactive, on 12/24/2008, -1/+11Unfortunately, Fleshlight 2.0 didn't make the list.
- Michas, on 12/24/2008, -0/+9Six things and they didn't manage to put them on a single page.
- mrBitch, on 12/24/2008, -3/+9Even though the "6 technologies that shaped 2008" are not exactly ground breaking...
If you didn't use at least one of those technologies mentioned, maybe your idea of being a "technology person" needs to be re-examined. - inactive, on 12/23/2008, -1/+6My favorite is the cheap pocket gadgets. I would love one of those little Flip video cams
- aimhelix, on 12/24/2008, -0/+5No, you just have to update firmware.
- Slides, on 12/24/2008, -0/+3Microblogging? That's so last month. Nanoblogging is where it's at.
- inactive, on 12/24/2008, -1/+4What? 3D Cinema? No.
- blackb0x, on 12/24/2008, -0/+3what is this "status" and why does it need updating?
- robev, on 12/24/2008, -0/+2I dont see how any of these 'Shaped' 2008.
- KboT, on 12/24/2008, -0/+2Exactly what I was about to post. Everything in that list is 'fine' excluding the stupid 3D movie reference. How the hell can that be compared to ANYTHING on that list?
- freehunter, on 12/24/2008, -3/+5Not sure why Twitter made the list, what is the importance of it? Why not use instant messenger, chat rooms, or text messages? You can get all of those on a cell phone if you're a business user, and if you're not, who needs to know what you're doing every second of the day?
- cmsjustin, on 12/24/2008, -0/+2And the telephone. And the internet.
And my stove. - freehunter, on 12/24/2008, -0/+2There's a new one?
- inactive, on 12/25/2008, -0/+2"I don't ever consider software revolutionary because we could have wrote that software at any time"
I disagree. Vista couldn't have been written in the 80's for example.
Software is limited by the physical technology at the time. - ElectricRebel, on 12/24/2008, -1/+3How about automated trading of Mortgage Backed Securities? :p
- BristolMyLove, on 12/24/2008, -0/+2What about Bristol Palin's baby? I read it's secretly going to be robotic!!!
- CaptainMidnight, on 12/24/2008, -0/+2Or the Aiptek Action HD. 1080p, 720p at 30 and 60 frames. Plus it actually has optical zoom and a SD card slot.
- Bigbro69, on 12/24/2008, -1/+3I'm *****
12/20 characters. - inactive, on 12/25/2008, -0/+1"Why did they stop making VHS tapes?!"
They cost more to make, lower quality, self destruct with repeated playback/pausing, held less content, had to be rewound, no bonus features, took more space on shelfs - deathfix, on 12/24/2008, -1/+2"Netbook manufacturers found they could bring prices down well below $400 by exorcising features such as optical drives, large screens and even the latest operating systems."
The Linux distributions on these netbooks were very up-to-date. Though the article could be referring to the use of Windows XP as not being the latest operating system. - freehunter, on 12/24/2008, -1/+2Probably meaning not having the powerful hardware needed to run Vista
- BristolMyLove, on 12/24/2008, -0/+1MILF
- inactive, on 12/25/2008, -0/+1"I think the future of search engines is in customized searches"
www.Google.com - cddict1, on 12/24/2008, -1/+2Next year is also looking good for twitter.
- Jeebugorn, on 12/24/2008, -1/+2they have a USB heating coaster thing for coffee mugs at the hajji shop on our FOB in iraq. one of my soldiers wants to get one and doesnt even drink coffee.
i, however, am looking up USB drink chillers right now! - inactive, on 12/25/2008, -0/+1Out of spite, I adblock the flip out of any site using multi-paged articles.
- RidesAPaleHorse, on 12/24/2008, -1/+1Her first or second baby?
- mitch37, on 12/24/2008, -1/+1A USB drink chiller made my 2008. It is genius!
- Kriztov, on 12/24/2008, -1/+1Twitter is really a whole site dedicated to your current status. Where it excels is that it allowed for mobile updates, and you can link it up with other community sites, such as facebook, to make the whole status update a whole lot easier.
- frankdozier, on 08/10/2009, -1/+1Then there would be no ads. You do realize that these webpages aren't free, right?
- Vawx, on 12/24/2008, -2/+2How can the cancers that are Facebook and Twitter shape anything other than disdain for attention whores? At least the other things on the list have practical applications.
- Midnitte, on 12/24/2008, -0/+0So they could focus on cheap DVDs! Its a pyramid scheme, I swear.
- panicomg24, on 12/24/2008, -1/+1I hate these "multipage" single pages.
ha ha ha - ItsAllVerbatim, on 12/24/2008, -1/+1Autotune.
- Tanze, on 12/24/2008, -1/+1i sometimes wonder what future historians would make of all these crazy technological advancements we've had in this past decade. its mind blowing to think about how much has changed. shock and awe you know?
- Avaseal, on 12/24/2008, -2/+2They forgot waterboarding??
- a1manarme, on 12/24/2008, -1/+1I think twitter is pretty gay. No offense to die-hard twitter-ers. I'm confused as to why so many people use it.
- DyceFreak, on 12/24/2008, -1/+1everything else on the list was software/applications... and IMHO, applications are never industry shaping, they are necesairy, required components of the industry.
I don't ever consider software revolutionary because we could have wrote that software at any time. Actual physical technology has more limitations, and software unlocks it's usefulness. So basically its like saying everything that was old, is new again cause we got some new software.
seriously... mobile applications is revolutionary? only cause Apple makes you pay for em now. Mobile applications have been around for a long time.. and suddenly apple makes a store out of it and it's revolutionary. - twigboy, on 12/24/2008, -1/+1that'd be something that shaped your manhood in 2008
- nmanguy, on 12/24/2008, -2/+1They forgot to mention the 4000 series of ATI GPUs.
