- cr4ft, on 10/12/2007, -1/+59Lesson to today's developers: Gameplay > Graphics.
I mean look, he made a game with falling blocks over 15 years ago and we're still talking about it. - Waterrat, on 10/12/2007, -3/+43 Ive seen this,it's worth watching.
- Gisterogue, on 10/12/2007, -1/+23Gah, all I needed. I am addicted to this game. My mobile phone has no other purpose. I am thinking of getting a DS just so I can answer calls!
- fhernand, on 10/12/2007, -0/+20... the sentence finished you!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19Kind of interesting how complex this simple game became, eh?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+19I probably have 3 times the experience you do on the net. Hell, I ran my own BBS in the 80's. I think I know how to post, thank you.
As for my wording the title like that:
Studies show that a high number of Digg users only read the titles, then click the link. That said, I chose to add the word VIDEO so they didn't think it was going to be a text article.
Second--by posting this in a non-video group, it has a broader audience.
Third--As I have noticed, most of the items in the Video section are usually slapstick, guys getting their balls kicked/hit with fireworks, and stupid variations on that blending thing. This documentary deserved better placement. - joeydoo, on 10/12/2007, -5/+19That voice-over woman has a really sexy voice.
- bizstyler, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Interesting watch. Now I know who is responsible for all those wasted tetris hours.
Even Homer was a victim:

da dada da, da deeda da daaa da... - nyrol2, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13Each time this makes it to the front page, it gets better and better. I think this is about the 38th time it's made it. It must be THAT good.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9I'd agree and also submit that the very hypnotic Russian soundtrack had a LOT to do with it's addictiveness. I guarantee you everyone here can still hum the main melody to the game boy version.
- omglolbah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8@skyshock21
There has been made countless remixes of it. Some trance/techno djs even mix the original soundtrack into their tracks.
It is nasty... Impossible to get out of your head >. - bagwaa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I really like these kind of programs, if only there were more of these on the actual TV rather than the crap they put on now.
- kACE, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6http://isohunt.com/torrents/?iht=-1&ihq=Tetris+-+From+Russia+With+Love+%28PAL+VCD%29+BBC4
^Torrent^ - zyopski, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I really loved Tetris.. I cannot say how many hours in my life I have spent playing this game, mostly at the arcade which cost me a fortune, though it was fun and worth it all the same... that was until bobble bobble came along :) Great Documentary! Really enjoyed it.... I feel for Alex who designed this game, he got nothing out of it in the end...
- kjcdude, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Ive seen this before and it's an amazing documentary, highly recommended.
- dheaddy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Don't be put off by the length, this is actually really worth watching and very interesting.
- aspirinetu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5warning: horrible site design.
and spam. - antdude, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6http://digg.com/videos_educational/The_story_of_Tetris
- brewno2k, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6"We didn't have the idea that the software is something that could be considered as a product, or be sold, or protected, or ... it made no sense, for us, at all."
Good times. - aeaheepmn1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5For someone who played Tetris three days without sleep ( no I am not hooked ) this was one of games that
took the world by surprise. Alex is one of the few people in History that are "The Unsung Heroes"
I really enjoyed the article no matter how many it times it has been posted or by whom. - SuburbanDave, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I give the show two sore thumbs up!
- antidukkha, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4As a Russian, I'd just like to say, AHHHHH MOTHERLAND
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5That's not PeteyUK's post.
Also, that post is from 90+ days ago. Lots of new members since then, and some existing members who haven't seen it before. - jingwei, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3saw this. it was on kottke.org's best links of 2006 page. The best documentary I've watched in a long time. Didn't knw there was so much dirt on suxh an innocent game like tetris.
- joshjoneswas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3This is the most interesting thing I've seen on crappy streaming video since I can remember! Definitely worth watching. TIP: Squint your eyes and you can read the translations at the bottom! :)
- gheatley, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4The voice over woman is Dervla Kirwan. Used to be on Goodnight Sweetheart and Ballykissangel on TV in England years ago.
What a great documentary. I loved it. Guess what Nintendo still rock and Atari went through lots of troubles and got bought out. - pooper, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4http://www.pbfcomics.com/archive/PBF206-Game_Boy.jpg
yes, its addicting... - tonich03, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Oh man this Alexey guy is great.
- hleapha, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I think people here want to see a more positive image and would rather see something from love from the east than a confrontation. The title is just more fitting IMO
- Twango, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Gvar-nink: SHPOILERSKI!
Best of all, creep gets shaft

eezveneecha puzhalsta! - harrisonpowers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2true, but you can pretty it up like lumines.
- scorwitz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Can't watch the video right now, but I want to know how to get those crazy colored blocks out of my head when I close my eyes! I dream about Tetris.
- dadiggdog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1my bad, i forgot to say it was buried cuz of vote-rigging
:) - pu43x, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I never knew Tetris had such a history!
Very good watch! - mookieXL, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This joke was repeated on Digg about 4,100 times (according to Google).
And you still can't get it right? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Got to love BBC and their documentaries!
Thanks a lot!
btw, that woman's voice reminded me the woman's voice in Unreal Tournament(the first one) in xx99, the deep mining corporation.... - joeydoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1ahhhhh. I thought I recognised the voice but couldn't place it. Probably because she used a cockney accent in Goodnight Sweetheart.
- Badtastic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Remarkable.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2So because I got more diggs than you did, you bury mine? This isn't the schoolyard.
Not to be judgemental, but here's a couple of tips:
First, my title was more succinct than yours. Yours was too long. That's what the Description section is for.
Second, If you're going to throw it in my face that I 'stole' your idea, then maybe the other Diggers who have submitted a story similar to this one in the past should say the same to you. As I don't see them coming in here to berate you or I, I'm going to assume it's because they're being adults.
Finally, there's nothing to wonder about. I'm not gaming the system, I have very few 'friends' on my list to boost my stories, and this story has not been 'popular' for well over 90 days. Since then, many newcomers have joined the Digg family and for those that have been here a while, not all have had the chance to see it. See, not everyone sits at home day after day watching Digg, incessantly, for the latest newest bestest greatest of all time 'thing' ever. We miss some stories.
In conclusion, welcome to Digg. Feel free to submit more stories. If I like them, or haven't yet seen them...I, along with many other Diggers, might digg them.
Have a diggtacular Day!
;) - junkyinny, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2youtube sucks!!! pixelated crappy version..
- barrettb182, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1And Peter too...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xlMuulwO1uc - zaklampert, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Fascinating.
- hleapha, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The expansion of that game goes to show how the expansion of life has come from the want and need to fill in the holes before it ends. If you do, you never really die. I know thats deep but it hit me and i thought it was interesting.
- hitmark, on 10/15/2007, -0/+1Very Good!
- Waterrat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1 So do I...So much of TV is such a waste of time.
Anyway, for those who want to play Tetris on line, here are a couple good un's to play:
http://www.trafficgamers.com/ Right now they are down, but the VB Tetris is very nice and even has that spiffy tune. - chucali, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I beat tetris
- KillerLettuce, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Even though its a story I already know. The BBC just makes documentaries even more interesting. I think its the editing.
- liambarron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Oh man, great video. I play tetris on my oldschool gameboy on my way to work every morning and I swear to god anyone I sit beside just watches me play sitting on the edge of there seat regardless of what game the guy on their other side is playing on his psp.
- DjShiznit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That was a pretty badass documentary :)
