Ten Years Later, Yahoo Finally Updates Its Calendar

techcrunch.com — It’s literally been ten years since Yahoo updated its online calendar. And it’s been more than two years since Google launched its Web-based calendar. But tonight it will start rolling out a new drag-and-drop, Ajax calendar in a closed beta to Yahoo Mail users in the U.S., UK, India, Taiwan, and Brazil.

    Wow so, I have to pay for POP access, no ads, a 20Mb attachment limit, and more "great features?"
    Aren't these things that Google provides for the low low price of... Nothing?
    Does Yahoo even support IMAP?

    Since when Canadian English isn't one of the 6000 languages for Yahoo! I have plain old english no french, no other language, english OS, english browser. But still it says I am not english :(

  • smotpoker1, on 10/09/2008, -0/+2Till they bring back the ability to chat to others about the news it is nothing but a wannabe news page I could care less If I read the news I want to talk about it with fellow humans albeit even with trolls and flamers.Their taking away the news forums were what made me go find Digg and Topix not as good coverage of the news but it will let us talk about some of it.***** you Yahoo I use to go to you daily now it might be by accident on or twice a year.AFAIAC you guys are stupid as hell to shoot yourself like that to me you made yourself irrelevant and continue to do so.Till you bring back the news forum and fire the stupid jerk that took it away you will never be number 1 again.
  • RobotBuddha, on 10/08/2008, -0/+2I only just heard a few minutes ago that there's a "ymail" like "gmail" domain for mail. That said, I'll give them credit for the reason I found it out. I finally gave up and just started my gmail fowarding copies to yahoo's mail so I can get proper push on my iphone. Compitition seems to be doing the trick again, and making sure that improvements are forced from at least one vender.

    Even if you look at the paper calendars, they have this sort of organization.
  • foxontherock, on 10/08/2008, -0/+2absolutely. Before using gmail/google calendar, I was using yahoo as my main online product. Their mail tool is better, their calendar is better, the contact list too. And, most of all, they are able to put calendar / mail / contact and TOTO list (absent from google) in the same easy to use interface. They have more functionnalities accessibles from the right click, but even if it may be considered as a better designed and practical products, they will never be the first. The winner is not always the better. I leaved yahoo for google, for other reasons, but I continue to think that yahoo was better on the usability and quality.

    "The new Yahoo! Calendar Beta doesn't work in your language yet."

    And Google doesn't provide a paid version with no advertising (click on a message) - so GMail is also useless.
  • Octanus, on 10/09/2008, -0/+1Open up an email with GMail and you get 5 text adds on the right which can't be hidden, at least Yahoo! lets you hide their large add on the right. That being said ABP works wonders for both sites.
  • mongrel, on 10/09/2008, -0/+1Bah, Yahoo will continue to annoy me with their calendar until I can connect it to Plaxo. Next to my work's Exchange server, Yahoo is my most heavily used email. But UNLIKE my Gmail, Hotmail, Outlook, Blackberry and iPod Touch, Yahoo is the ONLY one that isn't in touch with the rest of mys chedule, because it doesn't TALK to anything.

    Adsence is much better to deal with than giant skyscraper graphic ads.
