- daveman692, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6It is a valid story though. :)
- superphly, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Passport was centralized... open ID is NOT. Therefore, if you have your password hacked, or your security is compromised, it's your own damn fault.. not Microsofts as it was with passport.
- daveman692, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4TypeKey is centrally run by Six Apart, though is also an OpenID Identity Provider.
- unloud, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Because no one server controls user ids. It's like Jabber for login pages, but much easier for anybody to set up on any server.
- michaelczhang, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3If you think a story is meaningless, then just don't digg it.
- Ashex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3one HUGE advantage is that you can setup your own openid server, it's really not that difficult. Plus openid can be configured to be used almost anywhere.
- millette, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3All bets are open, which is the next big service to get OpenID?
- interiot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Wikipedia may have it sooner or later...
http://svn.wikimedia.org/viewvc/mediawiki/trunk/extensions/OpenID/ - factoryjoe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's already been done:

- EmileVictor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1http://wp-plugins.net/?filter=OpenID
In case anyone wants to implement into Wordpress. - guerchmann, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4And how less evil than MSN Passport ^H^H^H^HH^H^H^H^H Windows Live ID is this?
- jernst, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Digg perhaps? ;-)
More seriously, all the big guys -- Microsoft, Yahoo, Google, MySpace, others -- are watching this rather closely. I'm making no bets, but it's not impossible that one of those guys will get involved rather soon.
P.S. Would love to sign in here as http://netmesh.info/jernst instead of another username and password that I can't (and don't want to!) remember. - Heavy, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1www.bugmenot.com works to :P
- diafel, on 10/12/2007, -10/+3Yawn, it's another fraudulently digged site from webtech on the front page. You're pathetic.
- AlGore, on 10/12/2007, -10/+2Yawn, another stupid story pushed by digg.

What is Digg?
