- anaesthetica, on 01/10/2008, -0/+10The biggest new development for data portability is microformats, something that Tantek Celik has been working on for a while, and something that's going to be a key feature of Firefox 3.0. Here's an email I sent to Digg Feedback a little over a month ago:
Dear Digg Folks,
Firefox 3.0 coming out sometime next quarter (hopefully), and microformat support being one of the flagship features, I think it would be groovy if Digg slated microformat support for a similar timeframe to Fx3's release.
Several already specified formats seem readymade for Digg:
* hCard, for people and organizations, could be implemented on Profile pages.
* VoteLinks, for ratings, is basically the microformat for noting frontpage (for), upcoming (abstain), and buried (against).
* XFN, is for social networks, nuff said.
* rel-tag, for categories, could be bolted on to the new taxonomy.
As you know, a large part of your readership is pretty rabidly pro-Firefox (when not bitching about its memory leaks). And while they may not be as rabid as Ron Paul diggers, there is something to be said for playing to your audience.
So do consider the use of microformats in making Digg's content more visible and in making Digg even more Firefox-friendly.
Anaesthetica - Jerky1312, on 01/11/2008, -0/+4For those wondering who Tantek Celik is...

- macdaddyx1, on 01/12/2008, -0/+0I think Digg needs to check for blowback on their RSS feeds with this 'interesting' new technology. It has been twice now that i've checked back on my blog and found that I somehow Dugg on topics I never even visited. It is a dilution of credit, as well as an absolution of responsibility for authorship of submitted stories inviting plagerism and identity issues.
It's like the bad classmate who slyly hits the lunch aide with a spitball and then stuffs the straw in your hand. - BETRAMS, on 01/10/2008, -3/+3The interesting commentary in the accompanying Wired article was very interesting as well.
- theradical, on 01/10/2008, -3/+2I don't find it to be interesting, but it is intriguing.
- JustGrant, on 01/10/2008, -5/+3Interesting video also.
- BETRAMS, on 01/10/2008, -4/+2Very interesting.
- HyperJack, on 01/10/2008, -6/+3You must be new here.
