Now what about Germany?
What about Portugal?
What about Holland?
What about Denmark?
What about Colombia?
In all the countries above, the story was the same as Sweden. There are more countries like that, but I just haven't come across the 'smoking gun' proof. - wastegas, on 10/10/2007, -2/+38PWNED!

" The swedish working group at SIS, Swedish Standards Institute, Document description languages SIS/TK 321/AG 17, decided in a vote on August 27, 2007, to vote yes to making Office Open XML an ISO standard. Today, the board of SIS decided to invalidate the vote.
The reason for the board’s decision is that the SIS has information indicating that one of the participants of the working group cast more than one vote. This is not compatible with SIS rules, which stipulate that each project sponsor has only one vote. Thus, the decision has been taken solely based on SIS rules. The decision does not reflect a position on the subject matter.
Furthermore, the board considers it impossible for practical and formal reasons for the Swedish working group to arrange a new vote before September 2, 2007, when the global vote will be finished. If a new Swedish vote cannot be arranged, Sweden will abstain from voting. " - Theli, on 10/10/2007, -3/+20We hate your freedom. :-)
- betacmag4u, on 10/10/2007, -2/+15How many ways can I hate Microsoft? First Windows Me, then Vista and now this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- Agger, on 10/10/2007, -2/+15Because we're better than you. Because you're worse than most. Because you're slaves to your corporate overlords. Because you're corrupt. Because you don't respect the rest of the world. Because of "We're the best country in the world!". And we hate that after 7 years of Bush, there are still ppl considering voting for the republican party.
- ToadLeg, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12The sad thing is there really are people who think that way and say things like that. They're the 26% who think we're in Iraq to catch Osama so that he doesn't attack America again because he hates our freedom and such as.
- mihai11, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10I hate Microsoft. I hope that OOXML never gets to be a standard. ODF is the only way forward.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+12Swedes are any day better than the americans.
- heystoopid, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10There is an English language version newspaper for Sweden called "The Local" the full link = http://www.thelocal.se/8324/20070829/ to the actual page !
It seems Microsoft arranged for and or directly bribed at least 20 of the new additional members of the SIS council to swing the vote in their direction !
Undoubtedly the financial gain from the cross license fees from all software competitors for using this new document standard by using M$'s proprietary copyright software would have given them thousands of times the funds paid in these puny bribes ! Some people can be had very cheaply indeed ! - init100, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7I somewhat suspected it to be a joke, but you never know these days.
- init100, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Or a yes voter that was very anxious to get it his way. Anyway, it should be somewhat easy to figure out. Every organization has one vote, so just check on those that sent several representatives. The vote was cast by raising hands, and for one person to raise both hands would be so gross that it would have been seen immediately. Thus, two reps from the same organization must have cast votes.
- hug0, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7The competing ODF-standard is backed by SUN, which is, if I recall correctly, an American company, albeit from California and not Oregon (Californians appear to hold up higher ethics, something which becomes apparent if one for example compares Californian environmental legislation with that of other states and the federal government?). So the answer is no, Swedes do not hate America, even though many of us shake our heads at your political choices and the way your electoral system works. Fact is Sweden is probably the most Americanized country in Europe and many American companies use Sweden as a test-market for new products and services before they take on the rest of Europe.

- geronimo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7MS has been doing this for years, ask the IETF about it.
- goblindegook, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Unfortunately, a "yes with comments" vote does not mean these comments will be taken into consideration. In cases where technical issues must be resolved first, ISO recommends voting no.
- geminitojanus, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5In other words, Microsoft changed Sweden from voting "No." to "Abstain."
At least it's not another clear yes. - Tippis, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5...and if you can't do that, here are some hints:
It's a news item about Sweden.
It's hosted on a .se domain. - henrik.falk, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7I wonder if that was some clever "No voter" that voted twice to nullify the vote.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5You're not even gonna toss the Zune and IE6 in there as well? Not to mention the Xbox "toaster oven".
- mrweasel, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4It looks like Denmark will be voting "NO" with some comments. I think we'll know for sure next week. At least one Danish company said that Microsoft had been treatning them to vote yes. Denmark is pretty much a Windows only country, where many small and midsize companies care little about anything else than becoming a Microsoft Gold Partner, most of them will be voting yes, of cause. Right now it seems that the larger IT groups and larger compnaies will be voting no, and that should be enough for the Danish Standards organisation to say no.
Germany said yes, 14 to 3, but with 14 pages of comments. - srg13, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3That's not relevant to the story, so stop trying to start flame wars...
- vimana, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Jag vet inte.
- Forma, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3The Netherlands voted to abstain actually. Most members wanted to vote "no, unless" but microsoft blocked that route.
So the story here is very different from Sweden, if still sad. - flowerparade, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Computer Sweden has posted a translation of the original article here:
http://computersweden.idg.se/2.2683/1.118740 - Tippis, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Sounds like they're trying to do a "Dish and Dishonesty" ripoff.
Tip for the future, MS: if you're going to use hired help, don't hire Baldrick to do your voting... - NoNamesLeft, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2"Well, er, first, I'd like a word about the disgraceful circumstances in which this election arose. We paid for this seat, and I think it's a damn liberty that we should have to stand for it as well."
Classic. - goblindegook, on 10/10/2007, -0/+24567 is a spammer. Duly blocked and reported.

- TanNg, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Me and IBM too. We hate you, who want the format that is compatible with your previous documents.
- lkms, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1wtf are you talking about? ooxml is the farce ms trying to push to discredit the standard organizations, because only the corrupt retard who has no idea what is this document about would vote for this joke.
if ooxml won't pass, this won't mean you will have to use some format other than MS's. everything will remain as it is now. because honestly, who will migrate from MSOffice to Open Office just because OO's now "international standard"? - init100, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1"albeit from California and not Oregon"
Redmond (the MS HQ) is in Washington, not Oregon). It is a suburb of Seattle.
"many of us shake our heads at your political choices and the way your electoral system works."
Exactly. In addition, we shake our heads at the importance of the church in the US. - BaldMonkey, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1That is already been voted on here in Sweden and is an accepted standard.
- Garfunkel, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1What goes around comes around.
- badassninja, on 10/10/2007, -8/+7Well, "I" vote for the open format that open office uses. Regardless of what they do.
- Salviati, on 10/10/2007, -5/+4Come on, It was a joke. Now re-read that sentence with a sarcastic tone and you´ll understand why I digging you down.
- init100, on 10/10/2007, -12/+10Huh? Microsoft != America. In your view, is it impossible to dislike Microsoft without also hating America?
- Starks, on 10/10/2007, -6/+1The Swedish are alone...
