- duckyinc, on 11/06/2007, -4/+114I can't believe we are campaigning for privacy, we should have it as a right
- cnot3, on 11/06/2007, -2/+74Unfortunately the ninja party rally was far too stealthy to be observed by any living soul.
- UtahPirate, on 11/05/2007, -5/+35Yeah! Go Sweden!
- Amric, on 11/06/2007, -0/+23Terrorists... the witches of the 21th century. It seems as governments can make any laws by telling that they are made in the "War on terror". I am not just talking about the US now, I'm talking all around the world. But hey, it is a very nice opportunity for governments all over the world to increase secur... sorry control/oppression of its citizens.
It's the same with this law. It sounds better when you say that it was made in order to capture terrorists, but what will it be used for in the end? I don't know, but be sure that the media companies will do EVERYTHING in their power to get unrestricted access to that data. The way things have been going lately, they will no doubt get it.
Personally I find it really, REALLY sad and even frightening that Piratpartiet is the only party here in Sweden that addresses this directive.
Power corrupts I guess - goat2, on 11/05/2007, -0/+15which makes it even more shocking that someone would dig him down
- Sabretou, on 11/05/2007, -0/+10The headline is the most ironic statement I've heard today.
- UtahPirate, on 11/05/2007, -0/+9No, he said PRIVACY should be a right.
- wispygalaxy, on 11/05/2007, -3/+12These pirates have a lot of (meat)balls for standing up for themselves.
- terrordome, on 11/05/2007, -0/+8The new government is ***** up. Big time.
"Selective" privatization of healthcare, pharmacies (soon, at least) and education. In every instance of privatization the quality of service went way down, while the prices went up.
Taxes have been slightly lowered for most people, while the richest get the biggest tax cuts. - drcreek, on 11/05/2007, -1/+9Power to the swede! I love sweden they get so much right. Hope the new government doesn't phuck that up.
- UtahPirate, on 11/05/2007, -6/+13Rights must be fought for and won, or those in power take them away. Power, once established, is hard to revoke, but not impossible. Anyone who wants to fight for a more democratic way should study history.
Or read my blog. I'm writing about the fundamentals of American democracy, but it *should* have enough relevance to everywhere else that it could be adapted quite easily. I just started it a few days ago, and I just added it to my profile. My goal is 6 posts a week on the subject of democracy and how to fix what's wrong with the so-called "democracies" in the world (the US included).
Privacy is FUNDAMENTAL to democracy. No privacy, no democracy. - TomP, on 11/05/2007, -1/+7(●_●)
- inactive, on 11/05/2007, -0/+6No, but I expect the right to be secure in my privacy and not be investigated because you steal. The slippery slope of this is that the innocent get their privacy invaded along with the guilty. That is why they say the 'guilty until proven innocent' tactics are being used. What this Swedish bill amounts to is the same as wiretapping and storing all phone records of anyone who makes a call, from the terrorists planning a bombing to the guy ordering a pizza, and giving the guy who ordered a pizza a hard time. I must say it is sad to have to explain this to someone. If you can't see the dangers involved in such acts then you have learned very little fro history, or current events for that matter.
- inactive, on 11/05/2007, -1/+6With time, such oppression will force everyone into the underground which is probably what they want. I still find it strange that not everyone sends their logs to /dev/null and forces people to use strong encryption. It is only a small step, yet is so easy. Also, there is no need to have your blog linked to by every search engine. If people kept their communities smaller and drew less attention, then they would be less of a target and the lower hanging fruit would be easier for various groups to pick off.
Don't fight for your right to privacy. Instead, implement your own strategy for privacy and help spread the word to others. If you work on the interweb, you could routinely clean out your tubes. https://www.microchp.org/privacy/ - terrordome, on 11/05/2007, -0/+5They are also trying to repeal employee protection laws,
- madroneDorf, on 11/05/2007, -0/+4Having a standard bearer for privacy being an organization with its roots in software piracy is detrimental to the cause of preventing privay loss because it forms an association between the two which makes it easier to dismiss by the more mainstream public
- IADTatami, on 11/05/2007, -0/+4Please remember that copyright infringement is copyright infringement, and not theft, larceny, or stealing. I don't want people to ever be charged with grand larceny ($220,000 for 24 songs, was it?) for having one copy of forgettable pop pap on their computers, and I doubt that anyone else does, either.
- Markpdotcom, on 11/05/2007, -0/+3Malmö... I've got one of their beds from Ikea! :D
- Bossakungen, on 11/05/2007, -0/+3Even though our government might be a bit flexible, EU will never allow many of these things.

- cheesehead, on 11/05/2007, -0/+3Sounds like the right wing and a complicit media is taking over. It's a common disease of democracies.
- Damian91, on 11/05/2007, -0/+2Right ON BROTHER! FREE FOOD for all1!!!
- solid12345, on 11/05/2007, -1/+3If the pirate bay was torrenting child porn instead of music and movies how many would defend their privacy?
- DBNKR, on 11/05/2007, -0/+2I know, it really stir me up!
- toastgodsupreme, on 11/05/2007, -0/+2Well, those who abuse the privacy the internet affords are the ones ruining it for all of us.
It's a hard trade. You have the people who use the privacy to defraud, con, and do other illegal (hi2u pedobear) things. On the other hand, we have average people using the privacy of the internet to explore avenues of their personality they normally wouldn't before (safe, not like, serial killer stuff). Privacy affords regular users to do as they please, and be anonymous while doing it (I don't want anyone to know I'm into midget scat porn!).
Personally, privacy is what makes the internet so special. It's the world away from the ***** of the real world. - inactive, on 11/05/2007, -0/+2How many spelling errors?
- gnick, on 11/05/2007, -0/+2duckyinc never said anything about America.
- gnick, on 11/05/2007, -0/+1Your beeing unfare. Just becuz not evereyone can has prefect speling is no reson to criticise.
- johngr, on 11/05/2007, -0/+1There's no theft if the original owner still has the item "stolen".

- Murdats, on 11/05/2007, -2/+3so you dont mind your rights being taken away in the name of anti- terrism/piracy/etc or 'saving the children'?
- johngr, on 11/05/2007, -0/+1Prove that the people who were "stolen" from don't have the items that were "stolen".
- johngr, on 11/05/2007, -0/+1If you want to talk about someone stealing something, you'd better be able to prove you don't have the item in question anymore.
- fandyboy, on 11/05/2007, -1/+2For a second there I though they were nobly campaining to defend the values of liberty and freedom, but then I read a bit more and realised they just don't want to get caught with the warez pants down.
"it will potentially magnify the guilty until innocent approach already being used in file sharing trials." - johngr, on 11/05/2007, -0/+1If I steal food from you, you don't still have the food.
- Damian91, on 11/05/2007, -0/+1It's you ***** pirates fault it's being taken away! Don't try to play the "leave the people alone" *****...
- terrordome, on 11/05/2007, -0/+1Media isn't exactly complicit, not even state television. They are constantly digging up dirt on the politicians, causing them to resign. The most recent resignation was on November 1, when the Secretary of State resigned, because she was exposed drinking with a journalist, while on call.
Some media, though, is pretty complicit (like Svenska Dagbladet). - inactive, on 11/05/2007, -1/+2Pirates = too lazy to pay for things and work hard to afford them. Of course, it makes sense it would happen in a place where you can get away with not working at all.
It's one thing to make copies of things you own - you shouldn't have to pay twice for movies. But the justification of stealing things you don't feel like paying for is laughable. - IADTatami, on 11/05/2007, -1/+2Pssst... it's 'privacy', with a 'v'.
- Damian91, on 11/05/2007, -0/+1Excellent slogan.
- clothmonkey, on 11/05/2007, -0/+1Guilty until innocent is never acceptable, regardless of the situation.
- Damian91, on 11/06/2007, -1/+2Show me the artists comments. Also history, actual facts, proof and etc etc, and please show me how it has really ravaged these artists so bad that people are using piracy as a way to fight back against something. It's all *****, no matter what changes people will still go back to piracy.
- TopherT, on 11/05/2007, -0/+1A republic but the sovereign consists of the body of people. No oligarchical system will ever be compatible with our constitutional setup.
- GreySpec, on 11/05/2007, -2/+2This is in SWEDEN dumbass, not America, first of all, and second of all what UtahPirate said
- slicerace, on 11/05/2007, -2/+2The US is a republic, not a democracy. Duh.
- Chaoticfist, on 11/05/2007, -3/+3To all Canadians there a Canadians Pirate Party is forming, slowly but we are starting up. There is a facebook group for the Party. Just go here http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=6709501675
Invite everyone you know, as well Americans there is American pirate party here
http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2204546161
Fight for your rights people, or they will be taken away. - inactive, on 11/05/2007, -1/+1I like there Idea - but seriously - if the party gets into the government there will just be an out roar from the EU and other body's if the try to pull some of these things. Sadly..
- Chaoticfist, on 11/05/2007, -1/+1A pirate party despite the name is not simply to promote piracy dude. I consider it to be promoting a different distribution method, as well as the disgusting practices by the industry. I refuse to pay 20$ for a album with one good song. I am willing to pay 5- 15 dollars based on quality. As well the purpose to promote privacy rights as well as freedom. The industry treats there own consumers like thieves even when we buy their product. Another issue is drm, i refuse to buy something with drm. If i buy a song i should be able to listen to it on any device.
As well people really Cd's are DEAD. The future is int he Internet, if the industry embraced a p2p distribution method where u need a code to access the tracker they could ensure people pay for the songs as well lower prices because it does not take their bandwidth or packaging.
I am sorry for the long rant but people not all pirates just want free music. Most of us are willing to pay, but we do not want to be ripped off, and screwed by the industry we buy our music from. - johngr, on 11/06/2007, -1/+1It's none of your business how Sven uses his equipment if he doesn't have a contract with you. If you're going to allege he "stole" something from you, then prove that you don't have the item that was stolen anymore.
