- IQ70, on 10/12/2007, -4/+19Interesting part is that Woz did all the work. Steve just outsourced it for 50% profit sharing. Steve got $5000 for the job. Steve lied to Woz that he got only $500. Steve paid Woz $250.
That is the interesting part. :-) - john608, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10Yes. This is an interesting story. Thanks gwjc!
- Briankb68, on 10/12/2007, -8/+15@abbott75
I will, as soon as you stop telling people what they should and should not digg.
Deal? - gwjc, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Dude, if you got a bona fide story about Bill Gates working at McDonald's I bet it'll get a lot of diggs; I know I'll digg it.
- wbeavis, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I like Woz's story about $2 bills and a trip to Vegas. Eye patch and laser technician goodness. lol.
- Threnody, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10The real question is: Did he have a trampoline?
- sneakerelph, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Pirates of Silicon Valley...
that was a good movie. i'm guessing thats where you learned it from? - JewFro, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8This isn't even in the apple section.
- the_snitch, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I read it in the iCon SJ biography
- drakethegreat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1FYI Bill Gates was son of a millonaire and went to Lake Side, one of the most prestigious high schools in the Greater Seattle Area. I hate to break it to you but he didn't work at McDonalds, he was a rich kid. So in other words despite popular belief, Gates really didn't live the american dream. When your dad helps pay the venture capital to start up Microsoft then it makes life pretty easy when you can just buy your first product from someone else.
- cambrown99, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Think about what the world would be like if 'Breakout' never happened...
- kevine, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I won't point out the dupe, but the original post (including the actual podcast) is here:
http://www.podtech.net/?p=881
It's part of a series of podcasts from California Extreme Classic Arcade Game Show in San Jose. It's held every year and it's really a fun event. There are several podcasts from PodTech.net from people who created such games as Robotron, PONG and other classics.
http://www.podtech.net/?cat=51
Some of the podcasts include music from a guy who performs classic arcade game theme songs on 12 string guitar. It was pretty amazing hearing him take requests and then playing them on demand.
I've been going to this event for a few years now. I highly recommend it. It's one of those events that are done by people with passion. More information about the event can be found here:
http://www.caextreme.org - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Bill Gates did a Coca Cola ad.
- KenMo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I blame Bush
- mos6507, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2No offense to Woz, but Jay Miner's engineering team was capable of a lot more than Apple. While it didn't sell in equal numbers, the Atari 800 that came out after the Apple II had far more advanced graphics and sound, which is what you'd expect from an Atari machine.
- jfurrier, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I love to see all those classic games like asteroids and defender (my favorites) and atari was my first home game after pong... great podcasts from Rio at PodTech . Thanks kevine for pointing it out
http://www.podtech.net/?cat=51 - wurzelgummage, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1And now he's pushing DRM. Oh how times change..
"In the autumn of 1974, Jobs returned to California and began attending meetings of the Homebrew Computer Club with Steve Wozniak.[10] He took a job as a technician at Atari, a manufacturer of popular video games, with the primary intent of saving money for a spiritual retreat to India. During this time, it was discovered that a slightly modified toy whistle included in every box of Cap'n Crunch breakfast cereal was able to reproduce the 2600 Hz supervision tone used by the AT&T long distance telephone system. Jobs and Wozniak went into business briefly in 1974 to build "blue boxes" that allowed free long distance calls." - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2wow.Somehow I'm not surprised. Do we have a source for this info?
- Klowner, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2What about that photo of Bill laying on the desk, playfully tossing a 5 1/4" floppy at the camera? That was truly frightening, it's not McDonalds but it's close enough for me.
From "Teen Beat" magazine.. eeegh, sexy.. http://blog.monkeymethods.org/2005/01/bill-gates-strikes-pose-for-teen-beat.html - Atomic1fire, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2and thats how space invaders was made a school dropout
- Branchex, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Wow, Atari turned down the opportunity to sell the Apple II and the NES, no wonder the business went bad. Sometimes its just hard to see what will be successful and what will not.
- poolvibe, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0I love pong......
- zeldafan, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3They had 3.
Each a different generation of the first mac product,
the iJump.
..sorry - FredFlintstone, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3Rickler, I'll bet it is the same bots that digg the CSS submissions
- Rickler, on 10/12/2007, -15/+6I believe there are bots that just go through the apple section and digg everything.
- abbott75, on 10/12/2007, -23/+3Okay, I will, as soon as you stop telling me what I can and cannot say. Deal?
- abbott75, on 10/12/2007, -36/+10Honestly people, if this was something like 'Gates early days at McDonald's' would you be digging? You really need to stop mindlessly digging Apple/Jobs stories.
