- raptorlightning, on 07/13/2009, -1/+133Not so funny, is it now, funny man?
*black bags* - Leminnes, on 07/13/2009, -1/+104and Cuddy was on the receiving end.
- LANjackal, on 07/13/2009, -1/+99I'm betting the majority of tech personalities are too. It's just too easy and the numerical odds of being caught are too low to NOT do it, even if you don't publicly admit to it. Especially if it's your job to be "informed" about such technologies in the first place. In undergrad I took a "Technology in Society" Computer Science class in which we discussed the impact of piracy. The prof said he often downloaded tracks to see what they sounded like and then deleted them. LOL yeah right. P2P FTW.
- WTFNuggets, on 07/13/2009, -4/+81Oh God. There's an iTunes festival? Really?
- atezun, on 07/13/2009, -2/+62In England seasons are referred to as series; for example, House - Season Four would be House - Series Four.
- serif69, on 07/13/2009, -0/+53Pretty sure Stephen Fry is British, and Hulu isn't available outside the US. Nice try, though.
- Doopdoop, on 07/13/2009, -2/+50THIS IS MY GAY HERO.
- Crimsoneer, on 07/13/2009, -1/+47Stephen Fry, a highly respected actor, comedian, writer, presenter and author? National bloody treasure more like!
- wikinerd, on 07/13/2009, -5/+46Dugg for vendetta reference.
- pattyhax, on 07/13/2009, -0/+39Yea there's nothing worse for an artist than knowing people are going out of their way to view your work.
- RainbowWeasel, on 07/13/2009, -0/+34I'm almost completely certain that this is just how the British say "Season" when referring to television shows, if my wholly legitimate episodes of The IT Crowd are any indicator..
- Jynx97, on 07/13/2009, -0/+28That will be 34 million, thank you!
- StormTroopr, on 07/13/2009, -0/+26Because he is a Brit.
- digghasnoethics, on 07/13/2009, -0/+26Let me guess, not from the UK are we?
- Laughto, on 07/13/2009, -0/+25He was actually asked if he minded, which is when he went on about how the entertainment/celebrity industry was overpaid.
- pault107, on 07/13/2009, -2/+26Recently? You're an idiot.
- pijiu23, on 07/13/2009, -0/+23You've got to be pretty naive to think Fry doesn't expect his works to be pirated.
- Beatmiser, on 07/13/2009, -2/+22By 'recently' you mean 'decades ago'?
Moron - Murple, on 07/13/2009, -0/+20Dugg for the reference to the Top Gear appearance where Stephen shows Jeremy the gay cruising app. on his iPhone.
- inactive, on 07/13/2009, -0/+20Yeah, but see, that would have required Presbyterian to have actually READ the article.
- d3c4y, on 07/13/2009, -1/+21Hes not just an actor...
From Wiki :
Stephen John Fry (born 24 August 1957) is an English actor, writer, comedian, author, television presenter and film director...
Hes alot more than most celebrities. - gcnaddict, on 07/13/2009, -1/+20Avagad, apparently Digg disagrees with you. Congratulations!
- UKsHaDoW, on 07/13/2009, -0/+19His very well liked in the UK. His the essence of being british.
- atgmac, on 07/13/2009, -0/+19@Scrappy1850: Final Episode
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Series_finale - Avagad, on 07/13/2009, -0/+18In Britain, "Series" and "Season" are interchangeable. From what you're saying, saying the "series" finale means the end of House completely? Whereas in Britain a show can have lots of series..es.
- Pimpalicious316, on 07/13/2009, -6/+23whoa whoa whoa, series finale of house? did i miss the memo? thought they were coming back for another season!?
- inactive, on 07/13/2009, -7/+24Some people need to see "/s" to know where you're coming from. . .
- elvista, on 07/13/2009, -3/+19go Fry~
- Tanktunker, on 07/13/2009, -0/+16And then there is an iTunes festival afterparty.
It is identical to the festival itself except oftentimes the circlejerk isn't metaphorical. - t0x2c, on 07/14/2009, -0/+16We call those people idiots.
- merreborn, on 07/13/2009, -1/+17That's funny. I just downloaded all of "A bit of Fry and Laurie" a few weeks ago.
- mimigins, on 07/13/2009, -0/+15And he narrated a series of audiobooks for Harry Potter!
- murocan, on 07/13/2009, -0/+15Don't forget we call 'fries' chips and 'chips' crisps! Oh and 'napkins' are serviettes and 'pants' are trousers and we only use pants to refer to underwear.
- gidd, on 07/13/2009, -0/+15@wolfing
He gave the speech in England, speaking British English, so with regards to his speech, "series finale" means the last episode of the (US) season.
Incidentally, if I remember correctly, the reason why it's "series" rather than "season" in the UK is that, traditionally, British TV tends to show a series (season) of 6-8 programmes (episodes) in a row week-by-week. They don't last anywhere near a calendar season / quarter-year. - alpha88, on 07/13/2009, -0/+15Is that like Guitar Hero, but where you act as flamboyant as possible instead of hitting music notes?
- wolfing, on 07/13/2009, -2/+17that's in England, which is rather confusing. In the US, a 'series' is the entire show, while 'seasons' are each year. So a 'series finale' means the very last show.
- nwhysee, on 07/13/2009, -0/+15one of us! one of us!
- sinrtb, on 07/13/2009, -0/+15"To be honest I think he's kind of a douche to be pirating TV shows, since he obviously has enough money to buy it"
I am not sure what its like in Britain but I know here in the states we cannot get a hold of BBC content the day it airs without either pirating it or flying to the UK watching it from there and then flying back.
Often times the issue isn't cost its that the content is just not available. - Domthedude001, on 07/13/2009, -1/+16And some people don't.
- Zippo, on 07/13/2009, -4/+19Give me access to HD-quality, DRM-free copies of TV shows the day after they come out for ~$2 and I'll buy it. Until then, it's the torrents for me.
- nutmac, on 07/13/2009, -1/+16Hulu (or similar services) really need to be enabled for international use. Unfortunately, with many ISPs capping bandwidth, Internet TV watchers must now consider which shows are worth using the bandwidth for.
- inactive, on 07/13/2009, -0/+14Well it is the easiest and fastest way to get TV shows. There hasn't even been more than a half ass attempt to distribute them digitally.
- tuseau, on 07/13/2009, -0/+14Stephen Fry being awesome, as usual.
- ajmunson, on 07/13/2009, -1/+15http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yoN6XfyQsr4
- Ninh, on 07/13/2009, -0/+14Just shows how inadequate offerings by the content right holders are when it comes to getting their stuff to the customers in a timely fashion.
- awtripp, on 07/13/2009, -0/+13Brits call them series instead of seasons -- you know, a series of episodes. When that series of episodes stops, it's the end of a "series" or "season" -- when it starts up again it begins the next series of episodes. If you look at any box set of British TV shows (The Office, IT Crowd, whatever) it says "series 1" etc.
