- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+60Just link to the damn site: http://stage6.divx.com/
Also, it will never kill YouTube - eplawless, on 10/12/2007, -3/+35Indeed, it won't ever kill youtube, but I'm loving the quality.
I wish it could kill youtube. - tmanka, on 10/25/2007, -3/+32Needs....more....bandwidth, but +digg anyway
- phro, on 10/12/2007, -1/+29Won't kill Youtube until they lose the ActiveX control. Compatibility for the win!
- RegisteredUser, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19Woah. Free Divx Pro! I guess this is supposed to be an incentive to get people to switch?
"Add the DivX Web Player to your website, send us your URL (and tell us if you are a PC user or Mac user) and we'll send you a free serial number for DivX Pro ($19.99 value)."
http://labs.divx.com/WebPlayerCodeGenerator - Darq1, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18Youtube should use Divx.....
- nymphetamine, on 10/12/2007, -7/+21You know why it's not a youtube killer? Say it: stage6. Now say 'youtube'. Youtube rolls of your tongue.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+16Microsoft dosent exactly roll off the tounge either and they practically killed all the competition at one point in time
- bitterCAMPARI, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13for those of yuou complaining it is in 'alpha'
- Tobey, on 10/12/2007, -5/+16How does Microsoft not roll off the tongue? It does for me, maybe you have a lumpy tongue?
- kevinrosesmom, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12I think this website attracts a different class of user than youtube. Honestly do you need this kind of resolution to watch colbert clips and boring teens talking into their webcams?
Ah, but just click on full screen. Tis a beautiful thing. - Lifestory, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13its just a site trying to provide the same service with a different experience. not everything is out to kill..
- brucebeh, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10i have to say the quality of the videos are amazing
- prockcore, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9"I don't understand how we are supposed to be moving forward to an HD life style and we continue to put up with flash video."
Way to confuse codec with bitrate. Just because youtube uses a *very* low bitrate to re-encode all its video, doesn't mean flash video can't look great.
Look at ABC's free TV stuff. - espadas, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Stage6 is awesome!!! I hate YouTube for two main reasons: the bad quality of the videos, and the unexisting download file option. Stage6 Thumbs Up!!!
- geminitojanus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8You see, that's the problem. Either you embed the video in the page and let anyone use whatever media player they want (making it incredibly easy to rip the video), or you use Flash and throw in as many layers of obscurity as possible, making it impossibly hard to rip, but also so low quality that nobody would ever want to in the first place.
These video sites are going to have a real hard time competing if everyone's got the same content (especially YouTube with 8 copies of the same thing), and everyone's got reasonably identical video quality. - guregu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9You had me at "*****"
- w3bslinger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8But the built-in feature to download the videos is a + point that would attract many users. Im sure there are plenty of people around who wish they could save some of the youtube videos to be viewed later, rather than having to go through 3rd party utils to download them.
- mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7"Indeed, it won't ever kill youtube, but I'm loving the quality. I wish it could kill youtube."
You have echoed my sentiments. The video quality and the site design of youtube in general really irks me.. i've been hoping a popular alternative would emerge. (Well, besides google video. I prefer google's service, but the video quality is still *****) - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8"So, what you're saying is that we need a "killer killer."
Well, damn."
Exactly ;) - Darq1, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9I'm using firefox, no problems.
- RichPowers, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Oh if I had a dollar for everytime a "product killer" is mentioned on Digg. Betcha half of these "killers" go ***** up within a year.
- truebullfan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Link to DivX plug-in

Diggnation episode #55 behind the scenes
http://stage6.divx.com/members/3/videos/987 - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6komputes, fine with me. keep looking at that ***** postage stamp size low rez youtube video.
Wouldn't want to waste 4 seconds of your time by clicking "ok" on a plugin install.. I know it's too much effort for some people. Oh-btw, you do know you had to install the flash player that youtube uses at some point in your life too, right? You just don't remember it. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6http://stage6.divx.com/members/83077/videos/1006056
- aaronlidman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6http://stage6.divx.com/members/3/videos/987
i have to say the videos do look great even thought the files are larger i much prefer this over youtube, now try and convince +100 million myspace users, not gonna happen. - scoot87, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5What's also great about this is you can easily download the videos into avi format. no more need to convert it to put it into my video player.
- Computer_Kid, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6higher quality of video, the ability to download the video easily, they have a chance.
- babbling, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Yes, more bandwidth, and less patent-encumbered formats:
http://www.digg.com/tech_news/Ask_the_BBC_to_support_Ogg_Vorbis_Theora - bitterCAMPARI, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5youtube was small at a time.
- vexvector, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5So, what you're saying is that we need a "killer killer."
Well, damn. - isewise, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7If you ask me, I would rather download a huge file, than strain to make out details in a flash compressed atrocity. I don't understand how we are supposed to be moving forward to an HD life style and we continue to put up with flash video. Doesn't make sense to me.
- psyckboy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6"BOOOOOOOOOO...doesn't work in linux!"
Works for me using Firefox with the mplayer plugin. Quality is great! - frofro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4firefox can't find plugin.. oh well, i rather not install some active x control
- goggleBOX, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Yeah basically the internet never changes, everyone still uses Geocities, Altavista and Hotmail.
- headzoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Since it's working with Firefox, it's not ActiveX. And guess what? YouTube requires special software also. It's called Flash.
- prockcore, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4"It's fast, looks good, great looking video, and all it needs is the DivX codec (and if you don't have that shame on you anyway.)"
Aparently it also needs windows. I have divx on my mac, doesn't work in firefox, doesn't work in safari. - GodsHand, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Uh, Flash does allow for incredibly detailed video. It's up to the creator to use it. You need to be digged down for false information.
- rkuchiki, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4ActiveX defeats one of the main reasons for using FireFox.
Anyway, I know it is in it's "Alpha;-)" stage, but it will never beat YouTube because:
1) They need to get some maor bandwidth
2) They should use flash player. Sure it is low quality, but use the Google model. You preview it in flash, you download it for higher quality.
3) YouTube is more community driven, otherwise Google would be beating it.
Just my 2 cents. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5"And...anyone who thinks that people are suddenly going to stop uploading their videos on YouTube and go to this is just plain ***** stupid."
Actually that's exactly what im going to start doing..the video quality is way better - scoot87, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I would think people who prefer to recieve their content quick would choose youtube and the people who care more for higher quality would run to stage6
- lament, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3some people are experiencing that.. they're working on it.
- ChileanGoD, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Take a load of CommandN in HD!!!
http://stage6.divx.com/CommandN/show_video/627
Sweet looking Amber MacArthur....
*Homer Simpson FX* aaaahhhhhhhhhrrrrrggggg..*drooling* - headzoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Damn.. if YouTube doesn't start providing high quality video like this, I might have to switch!
- Caliente, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3its fast and high quality, which is sensational.
- subscribtion, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I'm sure YouTube will be glad if someone takes some of their traffic off their hands.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Holy crap, check out this "behind the scenes of diggnation" video..
http://stage6.divx.com/members/3/videos/987
It's shot in high def. Click the little fullscreen button (upper right over video window) and you will be BLOWN AWAY. That's full HDTV quality folks. Better than DVD resolution!
Watch that video and tell me you don't think that site is a quantum leap beyond what youtube currently has.
I shudder to see their bandwidth bills tho.. - RyomaNagare, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3after installing the web-player plug-in it works just fine in Opera 9.01
- OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3DivX is the reason we all use Xvid.
- Caliente, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Quick review.
+ Videos buffer INSTANTLY
+ playback on all videos so far has been seamless. more than i can say for youtube which is patchy with performance.
+ quality of video is incredible
- need to download web divx player. they need to make this more seamless/browser and platform compatible from whats been posted above. no probs here, running XP SP2 and FF.
this is some web 2.1 ish right here.
- needs more content, but I'm sure this will change if the site remains as it is currently.
question: can they maintain the current level of streaming performance when traffic gets boosted by a 1000 or 10000% into the future? -
