- millixaw, on 10/12/2007, -7/+35^^ This is true. Sony is the lead member of both the RIAA and MPAA. Fanboys can digg this down all they want, but it's true.
- llbbl, on 10/12/2007, -23/+40Buy Sony, Support the RIAA.
- taintparty, on 10/12/2007, -4/+20Buy from Apple iTMS, support the RIAA.
Eat it fanboy, Apple is the leading online music seller. They use DRM and support the RIAA. Take your rabid anti-Sony-fanboyism and go back to Digg... oh wait. - Bara, on 10/12/2007, -10/+25Considering their having trouble manufacturing the Blu-Ray drives for the PS3, and considering the PS3 is a month away from release, then this doesn't really come as a surprise. They're hoping the PS3 will be all the Blu-Ray drives they'll need on the market for a while.
- RAT-Man, on 10/12/2007, -5/+12The Panasonic player is a step up over the Samsung. And yes Sony does need as many blue diodes as possible for the PS3, so the delay to the BDP-S1 is understandable.
The $600 PS3 will be good enough for me, for now. - Desolite, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10probably not anytime soon. look at some of their other product lines, for example, the cybershot digital camera is a very successful product of theirs.
- echinatl, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7You're an idiot.
- Larke2000, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9nope. i owned a ps2 and a gamecube. never had an interest in xbox.
this gen, i own a 360 and have no plans for a ps3 or wii.
i'm not a fanboy, just a fickle gamer. :) - zetsurin, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7This is news... for trolls. That should be the new slogan for Digg:
"News for trolls, stuff that matters not" - staticneuron, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Is it that dramatic? Thier bravia lines and cybershot lines are very strong. They have thier electronics integrated in various products that doesn't bear the Sony name. No the delay for the PS3 means a few angry fanboy's (not calling you one). A delay on the player doesn't even matter to that many people.... except those same fanboys. The rootkit fiasco is old and a dead issue. It is as muted as the WGA scandal. The massive recall on batteries also isn't a death toll. because of contracts Sony will continue to make batteries for many laptop companies. It really isn't that big of a deal.
- scuzzman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5@zetsurin
While I agree with Bara, I'm guessing he/she was dugg down because someone else didn't. - TheTankengine, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7Speaking on behalf of the entire illiterate community here on digg:
Thanks, it would have taken me at least another few minutes of trying to pronounce every letter i saw to figure out that BDP-S1 != PS3 - HoboMaster, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9@Terc: That's because we're sick of hearing people bitch about Sony, and your comment added nothing to the conversation. We get it, everyone on Digg thinks Sony is going to fail as a company. Awesome. Now please stop bringing it up.
Also? Whining about your Diggs just makes it worse. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4It'll end November 17th.
- millixaw, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5No one's denying Apple isn't in league with the RIAA. They're a big business, afterall. Everyone that has fanboys on Digg (Microsoft, AMD, etc) all belong to Trusted Computing, RIAA, MPAA, etc.
All except Nintendo. We'll see... if they start selling music/videos over WiiConnect... - Lynxpro, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6The Rootkit fiasco was caused by a company co-owned by Sony (SonyBMG). It was not the fault of Sony Corporate itself.
Obviously, some people have a hard time grasping such concepts. - Larke2000, on 10/12/2007, -6/+10"The $600 PS3 will be good enough for me, for now."
this for a product that hasn't even been released. no wonder sony believes they could charge more and people would still buy it. - zetsurin, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7"The PS3 and Blu-ray will crash and burn."
People said that about the PS1, then it sold 100+ million.
People said that about the PS2, then it sold 100+ million.
People are saying it about the PS3, and it's already pretty much sold out. So watch this space. - zetsurin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3For those who have a short memory, don't care to remember:

The PS2 Shortage
The Situation
Take a good look. This may be the closest you're getting to one for a while.
The unthinkable seems to be coming true. Retailers are getting scared, gamers are getting nervous, and the PS2 is getting closer and closer to becoming the next Tickle Me Elmo. With only one million PlayStation2s scheduled to be available in the US for the October 26 release date and demand growing every day, many retailers have stopped taking preorders and started engaging in even more sinister acts. What are the warning signs that there may not be enough PS2 games to go around this Christmas?
Pre-Sales Figures: Presales have been going on since long before Sony unveiled the official price and specifications of the unit at E3. Most metropolitan area electronics stores are now reporting not only being sold out of their initial shipment of PS2s but of their second and sometimes third shipments as well. If this keeps up, the ability to get a PS2 before the end of the year may be next to impossible.
Production Schedules: With the upcoming redesign of the PSX into the PSOne and the continued sales of original PlayStation titles. there simply are not enough production resources on Sony's end to step up production if the need arises. If the original million consoles sell through immediately, as they're highly expected to, there will be little recourse for gamers who weren't as quick to preorder.

Now, ACTUALLY READ this article. Note the similarities to the current situation. THEN Digg me down in hopes that it will somehow the PS won't sell 100+ million for the 3rd time in a row :) - HoboMaster, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Yes, because they delayed it just so more people would buy it. That's always the reasoning for delaying a product.
- caldroun, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5I am not buying anything until there is a hybrid.
- HoboMaster, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Reading some of the comments, I'm pretty sure many people didn't get that.
- Lynxpro, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4There is a difference between majorly supporting a platform and inventing it. You make it out to sound like Blu-Ray is a Sony exclusive (or near exclusive) like Beta was. In fact, there is far more (consumer electronics) industry support for Blu-Ray than there is for HD DVD, which is pretty much a totally Toshiba backed up platform supported by Microsoft's monopoly money.
I mean really, is it any wonder that Toshiba won the contract to build the Zune for Microsoft? Nyet. I hope Toshiba has a backup plan because I'd rather not see Toshiba suffer the fate of Sega in terms of the beta Xbox 1, better known to us as the DreamCast. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5@aooogah:
Dude, are you seriously asking us to consider basing an opinion about the demise of a monstrous entity like Sony Corporation, a company that has been around since 1946 and has seen billions in revenue recently as a result of their flawless Bravia LCD HDTVs, on a six month chart?
What kind of moron even looks at 6 months on a company this old and this deep? Should I check General Electric's stock based on what they did this week? SELL SELL SELL they lost a nickel per share!
Go back and look at their 1 year. They're STILL ahead despite recent difficulties. Not only are they ahead, they're 25% UP. From $30 per share to $40 per share IN A YEAR. So what if the peak evened out, overall their stock is still a big win. Also, kindly glance down and look at their market cap, p/e, etc. They're just outstanding. - lerinlas, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Aero1 has Syphilis
- bobbyi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Can someone explain why there is such a shortage of these blue laser diodes? It's not as if the raw materials to make them are in short supply, right? So it's just a question of needing more or bigger factories to manufacture them? Since it has been known for ages that Sony would need millions of them for the PS3, why wasn't the manufacturing of the drives upped to meet the forthcoming demand?
- Stevethegreat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Who cares anyway? Delay it even more if you want to, no problem.
- Aero1, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3sony has herpes
- Aooogah, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4http://research.tdameritrade.com/public/stocks/overview/overview.asp?symbol=SNE
Check the six-month chart. - giveer, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3That's fine, I had planned to spend my cash "On or about" something else.
- hchaudh1, on 10/12/2007, -5/+5When we have fanboys for something like an Office suite, I am not terribly surprised at seeing Sony fanboys.
On a related note:
Wha? There's such thing as a Sony trolls? - staticneuron, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Digg is a social bookmarking site. look around. notice that alot of these names look familiar. Alot of this Sony articles of late have been inaccurate FUD but it still makes the front page because it is fashionable to hate sony on digg. Its not that sony is having a bad time, it is that the hornets nest is being stirred as we get closer to the release date of the PS3. I guess people are trying to win more converts for thier imaginary war before the real comparisons can be drawn.
- rygoke, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The blue ray burner is going to cost a fortune like all early technologies. If I were you, I would wait until it becomes more economically accessible. Unless you want to beat everyone at the punch ;) and then I'm like your best friend.
- Larke2000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i wouldn't call it "settling". i didn't get one til may, so it's not like i didn't do my homework. i love the front end. i love the games. i love the arcade. and i'm having a blast on xbox live. so as long as i'm happy, that's all that matters, right? :)
my only complaint so far is that i don't guess there's any way they could get ikaruga down to 50 megs for the arcade. - WhereAmI, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Sony co-created it.
Deal with it. - Aero1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2i caught the syphilis from sony
- zbeast, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1So do you really want to buy a 1.0 product?
I say "snakes very dangerous, you go first.".
Sony is one of the worse offenders when it comes to shipping 1.0 lemons.
Oh and I can't way to run out and buy that great selection of 20 movies that will
currenly play on it. Have you looked at the current films on release for blu-ray players.
Oh, man.. just wait. - cal01, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Ehh, I'd rather buy Blu-Ray players from other companies, personally.
- pantuky, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Howdy folks,
Just wanted to pop by and say that Blu-ray is full-on technological abortion, all raw red and bloody. Everything you want and need in an next gen format can be found in HD-DVD which is already much more widespread, less expensive, and performant.
Let's all send a nice big message to Sony that they can cram Blu-ray right up their frickin' arses. - zetsurin, on 10/12/2007, -7/+7@Larke2000
Spoken like someone, hmmm, who probably has a Wii on preorder. - rheaume, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Too many fanboys to fight sadly, they just buy anything
The ultimate product would be a giant ipod/ps3 combo with a huge strap-on built-in
Instant #1 selling product in the world. - zetsurin, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3"While I agree with Bara, I'm guessing he/she was dugg down because someone else didn't."
Precisely my point. Luckily sense has prevailed. There are a lot of different and insightful opinions that people hold. To bury them down (which most idiots will do based on whether someone says a keyword they currently think might not be cool etc) is to attempt to prevent others from sharing the insight of such opinons. This kind of thing is why mankind is devolving and becoming a stupid species. - jakatak, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1we still haven't forgiven Sony for beta tape machines.
- eurocrisp, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1i read all the bickering and I cant help but think its funny that there are so many people out there who are this eager to exchange thousands of dollars for the ability to watch movies in "high def", whatever that Really (not technically) means. Even if you're rich, there has got to be something more rewarding to invest $3500 (not to mention your time being frustrated about having to wait longer for it) in.
- mannymix03, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1considering that the ps3 uses blu-ray, i would be worried for that launch (either delay, or extremely crap drive)
- lordsandwich, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2"On or about"? My money's on "about".
- Terc, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3hchaudh1,
please take a look through my history, I'm no Sony troll, just weired me out that the whole page (7 comments at the time) had all been dugg down to -2 diggs. I couldn't care less about how many I had, just that it seemed a little odd. - Aero1, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3Sony has AIDS
- eurocrisp, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0^ you hope.
- zetsurin, on 10/12/2007, -10/+7Can anyone provide a sensible reason why Bara has been dugg down?
