just because you download iphone apps, buy retro tshirts, and tweet on your twitter doesn't make you a geek. in fact, you're probably an ***** if you have to tell other people you are a geek.
Today, anyone with an internet connection loves to call themselves a "geek". it's mainstream. - rasman1978, on 05/11/2009, -2/+204Isn't forming a society for non-conformists a little like herding cats?
- ramaboo, on 05/12/2009, -0/+165A real geek would have used valid XHTML.
- GregFD3S, on 05/12/2009, -2/+145Sorry, but just because you're on a social networking website and you have an iPod, that doesn't make you a geek.
- Animental, on 05/11/2009, -1/+113It's more like herding cats, taking pictures of them, and posting those pictures on the internet with funny captions on them.
- Idgit, on 05/12/2009, -1/+109Like knowing the difference between loose and lose?
- euro22, on 05/12/2009, -0/+88thank you.
- inactive, on 05/11/2009, -7/+95So now that "geek" has gone mainstream, it's making the real geeks loose what made them unique in the first place. It makes me sad.
- GregFD3S, on 05/12/2009, -1/+81I write code for a living as work, and I do it in my free time for fun.
I still play Magic and D&D.
I have a blue Light Saber.
I am an actual authentic über geek. - garebatico, on 05/12/2009, -1/+74Sir, I salute you. I hate the self called geek asking me to fix their computer or their wi-fi connection.
live well and prosper. - kushin, on 05/12/2009, -1/+53true geeks know that they do not need to join a fcuking geek society to prove themselves to be geeks.
- felman87, on 05/12/2009, -1/+47Yeah, seriously, ***** these people.
- yocouchdigga, on 05/12/2009, -3/+46this is incredibly lame.
BOYCOTT. - rwert, on 05/11/2009, -4/+44I'm totally going to join, but only if we all get cardigan sweaters with the logo on them. Because then it'd be like a real school and I'd feel hella cool.
- AndrewDB, on 05/12/2009, -3/+42Conformist Geeks who sell ***** to the masses aren't geeks at all, they're just poseurs who want to turn a profit off of the stupid.
- 007brendan, on 05/12/2009, -2/+41Owning something made by apple doesn't make you a geek.
- DevinWatson, on 05/12/2009, -2/+40Dugg for Veronica Belmont!

int a = 0;
private const string THANK_YOU_MSG = "Thank you!/n";
while (a < 101)
{
System.console.WriteLine(THANK_YOU_MSG);
a++;
} - egoideal, on 05/12/2009, -7/+35I'm not that much of a geek, but even I know that if you use an apple computer you are definitely not a geek.

I need to get laid :( - Paulish, on 05/12/2009, -0/+22"Nonconformists travel as a rule in bunches. You rarely find a nonconformist who goes it alone. And woe to him inside a nonconformist clique who does not conform with nonconformity." -Eric Hoffer
- CanadaMan87, on 05/12/2009, -1/+20Well a nerd is different; they tend to excel in academic pursuits. Geeks are just geeky.

- AndrewDB, on 05/12/2009, -0/+19I play D&D.
I'm an abstract artist and creative writer.
I might soon be working for the DVD section of a Barns and Noble.
I play City of Heroes and World of Warcraft.
I have my SNES and the games I bought for it when I was a kid, and I still play it.
I've beta tested over 15 games, everything from EQ1 to Vanguard Saga of Heroes.
I have a yellow light saber.
I've been to multiple Star Trek conventions.
I collect Legos.
I have a Meridia PowerCycle 550 electric peddle assist bike, of which 500 were made before the company went out of business.
I routinely shop on ThinkGeek.com and have over 4,000 TG Points on my account at the current moment.. (***** I need to spend those!)
And before last night, I had a girlfriend who routinely loved me and gave me all the sex I could need before I found out she was cheating on me with someone I thought was my best friend.
I post on Digg.com.
I am a geek.. and I am damn proud of it. - phenom2k7, on 05/12/2009, -1/+20She's gorgeous. I would be her slave.
- pinetree, on 05/12/2009, -3/+22"use notepad to code their HTML"
Uhm, no. Real geeks use vi to code their HTML. - Gareshra, on 05/12/2009, -1/+19I actually don't like programming.
I like tests of intelligence.
I don't like most games because they're repetitive.
I like a lot of eastern european music, or strange genres.
I don't really enjoy most "geek" music I've seen other than Jonathan Coulton.
I beat ADOM without save-scumming.
I don't like twitter, facebook, or any social networking sites.
I think D&D kicks ass.
The point I'm trying to make, albeit somewhat badly due to tiredness, is that some of those statements seem quite geeky, while others are actually really out of place. My point is this: the point of a label is to give someone a summary of yourself, not define yourself. I use geek because it fits closest, but I am not defined by the title of geek. Many of the things I've said are geeky...many are not. Everyone needs to keep in mind that just because you identify with a particular group does not mean that's what you are. It's just a way of summing up. - moo2u2, on 05/12/2009, -0/+16valid XHTML _strict_ :)
- HouseofEl, on 05/12/2009, -2/+18If anything this makes me want to be associated with the term even less. What I saw in that video was The Society for the Advancement of Self Promoting Web Celebrities. This reminds me of the days when the word Punk meant something. Now it's just mass produced Hot Topic merchandise worn by teens that don't have a ***** clue what the Sex Pistols sound like or think Black Flag is a bug spray. Regardless, I don't think there could fit any more egos in that video. Sure a few get a pass, but still lame.
- Nubli, on 05/12/2009, -0/+16You obviously haven't ever owned multiple cats.
- ell0bo, on 05/12/2009, -0/+15I signed in for the sole purpose of digging you up, oh and saying ***** you... for making me spit milk all over my key board.
- p0op, on 05/12/2009, -0/+14Thank you.
- wscreamer, on 05/12/2009, -0/+13I see that you forgot your mains. Those programs would not build
- ttamshadbolt, on 05/12/2009, -0/+13agreed. absolutely no substance. All they've done is grabbed a bunch of internet "celebrities", made a botchy film clip and added a twitter feed.
- homesqua, on 05/12/2009, -1/+14A real geek would have designed a not-so-ugly website. It's called margin:0 auto; (yes and text-align:center; for ie5.5, but whatever). Get with the times. People have screens wider than 1024px and we can tell you suck.
This is probably the ugliest thing you can do to a website: http://gyazo.com/508c4d477a32bf36b7758b4e597b293a. ... - endgame, on 05/12/2009, -2/+14Their was a lot of win in that You Tube advertisement!

Maybe 3-4 years ago that would have qualified you as a Geek. Back when Digg was good. I think it's mostly habit that brings me back now days. - endgame, on 05/12/2009, -0/+9D&D FTW!!!
35 & still love a good table game! - JohnnyMarr, on 05/12/2009, -5/+13I prefer "nerd" to "geek" anyhow.
- launchpadtt, on 05/12/2009, -1/+9Just seems like a lot of self- stroking and aggrandizing by a bunch of of web celebs that come off as a little too insecure with their geekness
