- Daiken, on 10/12/2007, -10/+20Stop getting your buddies (or maybe they're all you) to digg your submissions to the front page aaaz. You're ruining Digg.
- ninetimes, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8It's just another step towards what I want to see: Instead of cell phones, VOIP devices that work over ubiquitous wireless internet access. What's the difference? It'll break the telecommunication monopolies.
Well, except for the fact that they'll monopolize the internet access. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I actually have skype on my mobile, it's seriously redundant..
But hey, if i'm out of minutes, with an unlimited data plan, THE FUN NEVER ENDS! ^_^ - Klarth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Sweet! Now I can use my phone as a phone!
- Antitribu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Wow, unlimited data plans.... regrettably here in Australia we are charged around USD$0.002 per kilobyte, you can imagine it racks up pretty quick
- 4Runner, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Been using Skype on my Sprint PPC-6700 for several months now. Works great with the phone's built-in 802.11b. Lags a bit on EVDO with a BT headset though.
I have ulimited data too in addition to 500 anytime minutes, free 7PM N&W, free mobilte-to-mobile, 500 text messages, free roaming, etc..for less than $30 per month. www.sprint.com/sero or check the Sprint SERO thread on Slickdeals or Fatwallet for more info. - jpfree, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I would say that either is acceptable. And yes - Symbian is definitely a smartphone OS. The key requirement I would say for a smartphone is the ability for a user to install additional apps (and not just java ones). Symbian definitely meets this requirement.
Microsoft have a smartphone edition but only in their dreams are they the only ones! - jabbar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2too bad sprint sucks where i live...i would totally jump ship from cingular
- aoctavio, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3My phone is not dumb, but it just doesn't care...
- oct9, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I dont know Aaaz's history, but this is news to me. I didnt know theres skype coming out for symbian OS, they should also make it for Palm OS. That EQO thing doesnt really count.
- jeremy66158, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2i thought you could this now?
- MikeKnoop, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Don't forget, it costs a LOT more (in general) for an unlimited cellular data plan than it does for an actual phone line.
-Mike - Harlequn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I also have a Sprint PPC-6700. Installed Skype on it. If I try to run skype voice over EVDO, the phone locks up after I utter a few words. I can connect via Wi-Fi and make it work like that, but my sister says I sound like I'm talking under water. She burst out laughing.
This is a hardware problem. They already know how to do Skype in software really well. The hardware just needs to catch up to the software, and it eventually will. - kodek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"Wow, unlimited data plans.... regrettably here in Australia we are charged around USD$0.002 per kilobyte, you can imagine it racks up pretty quick"
Cingular in the US charges $0.01 per KB. - faisal2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Its already available : http://www.fring.com
- burkay, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Is it Smart Phone or Smartphone? (No, I am not a grammar maniac. They mean two different things.)
Is Symbian counted as a Smartphone OS?
Or is it only Windows Mobile based phones which are called Smartphones? - thekurst, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I second that. I still don't see why there wasn't a Skype client for Palm OS from the very beginning.
- MikeFromAmerica, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"I actually have skype on my mobile, it's seriously redundant."
Yes, redundant like having an mp3-playing phone is redundant because you can download 30-second ringtones from your wireless phone provider for $3.
PS--T-Mobile USA gives unlimited GPRS access to tcp 80, 443, 25, 143, and 110 for $5/month. Not that that is fast enough for Skype but it's cheaper than GPRS on Cingular. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Lets see skype on your smart phone, well, most of us would like wifi on our smart phone, and most smart phones, dont have wifi, or a processor fast enough to run skype. It seems the cell companies cant make a decent speed smart phone that can use skype, bluetooth/wifi etc Take cingular for instance, i think the cingular 8125 can do it once overclocked, but kills the battery life, talk time is a lame 4 to 5 hrs anyways (before overclock)
- xixor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is great, but I'd rather them work on making skype-In numbers available in Canada
- rauz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Oh yes there is, and you can.

Has been out for almost a year I think...so I can't really say why this is considered news. - damoh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Not on phones with Symbian OS, i.e. Nokia N series
- 3lancR, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0www.fring.com
it's been out for a while now...
both skype and google talk supported - 07734, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I've been running skype on my phone (Orange's SPV M2000) for quite a while now. It can be quite useful. In my day-to-day life, I am mainly at work or at home, and both have wifi access - so long as I don't become to reliant on it, and get stuck needing to use it over GPRS (don't even try), then I'd recommend it.
- hobbsy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I have Skype on my TyTN :)
- damoh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I don't think the Palm OS (early Symbian) had the multitasking capabilities. Afaik, the Series 60 onwards have the ability, also the processing power required is higher.
- EricSeale, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0My nokia N80 has wifi. data and SMS rates are ponderous in the USA.
- SouthernDigger, on 10/12/2007, -15/+2What if I have a dumb phone?
