- Pimpalicious316, on 10/12/2007, -6/+22i was hoping for another chuck norris movie :(
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I wonder if it'll come with a dedicated LOL key.
- sleze, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5My buddy has the Sidekick II and he loves it. They are a little on the large size but I would get it if TMobile didn't have such crappy service in my area.
- phool, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I downloaded a calc, texas holdme game, combat game, a telnet/ssh program and a few other things and never had a problem with the device, not once. It worked like a charm.
I actually used to it stop my firewall and shut down one of my servers at serverbeach when I was on vacation and had no internet access.
It was a good device. - Kitsune818, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8Everytime I see an article like this I get excited thinking Suzuki is going to bring back the Sidekick. [sigh]
- paulrus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5As an original B&W Sidekick owner, I seriously hope they've got it right this time. The previous versions all sucked when it came to using it as a phone. And when I say sucked, I mean the suckiest bunch of suck that ever did suck. It was totally useless as a phone unless you had a really strong signal - the antenna was horrible.
I have since moved to the Cingular 8125 (the HTC Wizard) - and it's a kick-arse phone. - white1827, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I would give my left nut for the sidekick3 to have bluetooth and an iTunes tie in or something.
- phool, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I have had both the SK1 and SK2 and they served me well. Also t-mobile has one of the cheapest full data plans out there and it works pretty good.
I will be curious to see what we get from this new one.
I personally like this one coming out soon:
http://verizonwireless.com/q - gwjc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I was impressed the first time I watched someone ssh into a remote linux box with one.
- jetsetter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I've been checking http://www.MobileHipster.com for information. There are some other sites, but this one has been putting up relevant news about the Sidekick III for months.
- ryptide, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I hear you. I moved to T-Mobile's MDA, which is theire offering of the HTC Wizard. I don't think I'll be switching back to the SKIII. It took them this long to catch up to what the rest of the smartphones were doing, and I don't want to go back to waiting around for decent software to be released.
- ChuckNorris, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4They still have to pay me royalties.
- spyder91, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2iTunes will probably be Cingular only for awhile, but that's probably for the better. I have T-mobile's Samsung T809 and changing the file extension allows me to fill as many songs as I want (i.e. more than 100) to fill my microSD card. I don't mind the simplified interface either.
- wrinkles, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"The Anti-blackberry". And it has a terminal program. Developer community, free hacks. Nice price. I love it.
Developers: http://developer.danger.com/
Hype: http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/businesstechnology/2002678466_sidekick12.html - ryptide, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I read someplace that it will have bluetooth and an SD slot, so you can play whatever you want on it. To that I say "yawn" my MDA already does that. And I was a sidekick early adopter. The novelty jsut finally wore off for me and I wanted a more "grown up" device.
- miscoco, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I never had any problems with the sound quality with the SK II. Now actually using the phone part is a disaster, especially if you need to talk AND use a touch tone service. Any chance of this coming out in the EU?
- spyder91, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2*In addition* According the "mobilehipster" listed in a lower comment it's going to be a 1.3megapixel camera and have Bluetooth, but I don't know how reputable that site is.
- f00f, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2does anyone have any ideas on what the specs for this device are? what kind of memory, how big the camera, etc.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Yeah, it's really hard to talk and use touch tones. I mean, spinning the phone open and actually hitting the number keys is a disaster, particularly when you enable the excellent speakerphone. And if you don't want to open it, there's the horror of using the scroll wheel to pick numbers from the onscreen keypad.
What a retard you must be. I've been using my SKII for 6 months and it's worth every dime. - spyder91, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2On the current one, everything is tied to T-Mobile's servers which contributed limited memory and such I'm sure. Hopefully they'll change at least some of that idea so that only crucial things are on the server and you're free to save the rest to a micro-SD card or something. Take the user-friendly Danger interface with the power (and user-control) of Windows Mobile and you'll probably sell a good amount of devices. After all, if you're going to charge the same data rate for the Sidekick3 as the MDA and 2nd gen, you better make it worth owning for anyone over the age of 16...
- spootwo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I hear it comes with it's own paperclip because the sidekick 2 needed to be reset so much
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The terminal program is priceless. I admin a few linux boxen (and my mythtv box at home) and being able to shell into any one of them, from anywhere, anytime, is more than worth the ten bucks you must pay for the program.
I don't buy software very often and I don't like gimmicky phone stuff, but this thing is a life saver. - everfresh59, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Definitley worth it up here in Canada, we get unlimited web access for 20 bux a month, thats a steal.
- br0ken1128, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I had a sidekick 2, I switched to t-mobile just to use that phone! I liked it for the DAY I had it, I downloaded a calculator app for it and the thing bricked!
I called the support line and after being on hold for over an hour, I finally got a rep who walked me through several different key combinations, none of which worked to revive the unit .. he finally said it was dead and that I needed to send it in to be replaced.
My thought? if downloading a calculator app was enough to kill the phone then I don't want it.. I took it back and just got a V360 instead, smaller phone with messengers and an mp3 player built in.. aside from the crappy service, I'm satisfied with the phone.
If the Sk3 is a bit smaller and has some decent features, I might consider going back for another round - ryptide, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Yes. You have to by a T-Mobile internet plan. It *is* more expensive, and doesn't include unlimited text messaging.
For me though, a big selling point the ability to sync pretty much right out of the box, and to be able to download and install whatever I want without going through the "download fun" catalog that includes some nifty applications and games, granted, but mostly a bunch of crappy hip hop ringtones.
Add to that bluetooth, 1.3 megapixel camera that takes video, edge network, wi-fi, mini-sd.... and the MDA is clearly the victor over the sk3. I can't speak for teh sk3 really because I haven't used it... But I figure the form factor might be a little better, the messaging might be a little better... but I'm going to stick with the MDA for the syncing and the wide-open developer network where I can get whatever application my heart desires. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Personally I've never reset it once and rebooted it maybe 4 times in 6 months. It lags sometimes when it's doing heavy lifting (rendering big pages in the browser, getting online after not having a signal) but otherwise it's rock solid.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That's a major downfall. Sometime last year they locked the developer program so you actually have to submit code to them (which they audit) before you can even get a dev key and unlock your phone. No mp3 ringtones = bad. My old Nokia 3300 was alot more handy for music stuff because it had an SD card inside I could load up with anything from mp3's to data. One special usb cable later and I was in business. I really hope they make the SK3 more flexible in this regard...but I'm assuming that since the SK2 had such limited memory, mp3 support was axed do to RAM constraints.
- drewhamlin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You know, this is a good story. But it always upsets me when people digg stories and misrepresent them. This story is a rumor. The original title of the story includes a question mark at the end, and it should have been dugg that way. (Or "Rumor:" added to the front). Let's do a better job together to accurately represent the stories.
(The bi-line in this story does a fair job, but the headline - the most important element - is a little too presuming.) - titlesaysitall, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1http://digg.com/technology/Sidekick_III_launches_July_10th

- jimmy0x52, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Mine needed to be reset a ton but the 1-@-0 key combo resets without need for paperclip.
- LawJik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Guess no one has seen this page?

... - dnthomps, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I am thinking about getting an MDA. Does the internet cost extra? I have a SideKickII and the internet is like $20 a month. If I have to pay much more than that I say screw it. Shouldn't have pay the same ammount as my home connection. Anything you love about it? Anything you dislike? I haven't decided if I am going to get the MDA or just wait it out to see what the SK III looks like.
- x8sam8x, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I hope they make this more open then the previous versions of the sidekick. When I bought the Sidekick II, I wanted to load programs and ring tones but to my surprise it cant even communicate with the PC unless you get it unlocked. To get the Sidekick unlocked you gotta go through hoops to get the unlocked key
- mobilehavoc, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Great - another device that will be mistakenly called a "Blackberry" by the media when T-Mobile's servers get hacked again and Paris Hilton's address book is posted all over the internet AGAIN.
- miscoco, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Yes I must be a real "retard" for thinking the phone suffers from poor product design. Another reason why digg != slashdot...
- liek, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0HAHA PARIS!
- biko523, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2that's hot
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -9/+3I know a guy who has the first sidekick tattoed on the back of his neck with wings on it. I'm not kidding.

- Petarded, on 10/12/2007, -14/+3what?
- misxn, on 10/12/2007, -16/+3Just bury him.
- carrmatt, on 10/12/2007, -26/+2This would be pretty cool. I could take photos and chat with all my friends. Oh, wait a minute...they're all sockpuppets!
- carrmatt, on 10/12/2007, -32/+1Some people suddenly appear then disappear from forums like this one.

Maybe they're still here under a different username, maybe they're really gone who knows. As idividuals, we don't put a lot into our alter-egos, very little is at stake to maintain them. When a someone leaves a forum he/she leaves behind they're alter-egos and forgotten comments. The nice thing about tech talk is that it only applies for the moment, it's value depreciates with each passing day; just like an abandoned digg account.
If anyone out there reads this my password is carrmatt, feel free to have this account, it is just another sockpuppet of a passing troll.
good luck, happy trolling :)
your friend always,
carrmatt
