- kalleanka, on 10/12/2007, -6/+17Dude, just use local.live.com which has exactly this built in. I always use this when I want to share a few addresses with friends. I add them all as pushpins and send one link instead of three to my friends and they can also get directions between the places.
So why use third pary software for this?
Just my 2 cents. - sych0, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11and local.live.com has the wicked awesome birds-eye view
- KnightMareInc, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10the detail on local.live is amazing.
- ledmatrix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5When you create a new account the password fields aren't encrypted.
- tylerni7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I dunno I just checked out htt://local.live.com and wasn't too impressed. It has the same resolution for google maps at my house, but in black and white. The layout is also a little confusing, and the webpage seems to be a little slow. *Shrug* it does work better in other areas though, but I'll stick to google maps.
- seeingeye, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1What happened to http://www.showmewhere.net ? It's been down for days, is it gone for good? I wish I had known before using it to integrate google maps into my site....
- brainache, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Hey i never realised that Local.live.com was so good. I've just been playing around on it and it really does beat googlemaps for features and even Google Earth for Detail!
- MOJIRA, on 05/17/2008, -0/+1I don't get why you can't just give the person you're trying to give directions to the actual address!
- xoineg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Live has some very old pictures...unless you live in a city that has the newest pics...Get the new Google earth and it will let you do the same and even email a picture of any map you want complete with pins.
- tprzepiorka, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is a pretty cool I think. local.live.com doesnt have very good satalite imagery for Poland so not worth it for me.
- vuzman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Birds eye view? How?
- owlet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1For Finland the aerial view in local.live is quite bad. Google has better aerial views.
The road view is slightly better in local.live though. - bustedbyu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The map not very friendly in terms of locating by addresses. Further, when you zoom Hawaii for example, there is no information on that. I'll check out local.live.com from what others posted.
- RBotros, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Sounds like a "personal" version of www.Wikimapia.org, but with even more features. Could come useful
- diggm0nkey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1i started a site like that too but for pictures... never got around to finishing it... was gonna add flickr/digg-like functionality http://www.photomaps.net
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1ENOUGH with the "which is better...Google or Live" debate. The answer is NEITHER is inherently better. Both has advatnages and disadvatnages based on what area you are looking for.
Yes, in some areas, Live's maps are ridiculously old. (over 10 years now.) But in many of those areas, Google has NO aerial images. Just extremely low resolution ones that look like matte paintings. In some areas, Google has hi-res in some areas and low res in others. I happen to live in a place like this. So I have to use both. Google's images are from 3-4 years ago, but many areas inexplicably are low res. (I say inexplicably because it will be in the middle of hi-res area and there aren't any security reasons or anything.) Live's images are from 1995 or so, kind of dark, and in B&W, but they are better than nothing.
So basically, realize that what is better for the areas YOU are looking for does not mean it is better for other people. - digitalMessiah, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I could see this this being usefull in a way for trip info, store location, a scavenger hunt.
- PseudoWaters, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Does Live.com can implement your own icons into the map and embed the map itself into your site?
- spkaine, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3I love the interface.
Has anyone else noticed that the maps are very old? My development is a corn field and there are no other developments around me that are at least 5 years old. - RBotros, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2except that u can't draw lines and don't have the other features this one offers..
- digital1, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1Check out http://www.rockstarapps.com for another map building tool.
- freddiefenster, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1http://www.yourgmap.com has the same sort of functionality.
