- apophenic, on 05/11/2008, -2/+18Don't forget the RIAA!
- sheebz, on 05/11/2008, -2/+15Wow, these comments really suck. I've been using shareaaza for a couple years now, and its definately my preferred torrent client. Even if you don't use it, the RIAA's tactics here are pretty despicable... hijacking their domain name and setting up malware for unsuspecting users. Thats totally ***** up. Good for the shareazza team for fighting back!
- renatoc8, on 05/11/2008, -2/+13Because its a scam... oh wait...
- crownedgriffin, on 05/11/2008, -3/+14Hi. You must be new to this whole internet thing.
- toastgodsupreme, on 05/11/2008, -5/+17Meh, uTorrent > all. I used to be an avid BitComet user until I tried uTorrent at a friend's. Since then, it's been all uTorrent. Small, has all the options I could ever want to configure, and I know there's no spyware.
- Teej, on 05/11/2008, -1/+12Although I haven't used Shareaza in ages because I much prefer uTorrent, they absolutely did not deserve the brand name desecration they received from the domain hijacking they suffered. It was a spineless move by a bunch of no-good low-lives.
- sheebz, on 05/11/2008, -0/+9I don't think the problem was DNS poisoning or anything. I think that they somehow acquired the domain name and have been using to distribute malware under the premise that the software was shareazza. Was it legal? Not sure. Definately is an ***** move though.
- ryanonfire, on 05/11/2008, -0/+8yep http://shareaza.sourceforge.net/
- RedS0x, on 05/11/2008, -3/+10GTA IV
- ers35, on 05/11/2008, -1/+10Shareaza does not support copyright infringement. Have you even visited their website? They are in no way "dedicated to ripping off other people's property".
- DigitAl56K, on 05/11/2008, -2/+9DNS queries should be signed all the way up the chain. You should be able to trust your ISP's DNS server and no that nobody is hijacking your name queries. Your ISP should be able to trust the master and redundant servers and know that their updates aren't being hijacked either.
So much of the Internet relies on protocols that have no data security and/or trust mechanisms, or that default to their most basic form in all common applications. It's kind of fragile when it comes to localized attacks. - renegadeafk, on 05/11/2008, -0/+7Everyone can be an attorney on the internet!
- Tyrghast, on 05/11/2008, -1/+6sorry no, that would be utorrent.
- Tenlow, on 05/11/2008, -2/+8It's because they're what is big news right now. It's a reflection of you know, what's making the news? Because it's news? On a news site? I hate explaining how digg works to people on digg. If you don't like it, bury it.
- ryanonfire, on 05/11/2008, -0/+4Who uses edonkey?
- Elranzer, on 05/11/2008, -0/+4Redundant.
- DestroyFascism, on 05/11/2008, -1/+4All the best to the shareaza team. I think what has happened to shareaza is blatant criminal behavior and bullying.
- ers35, on 05/11/2008, -4/+8µTorrent does not connect to eDonkey, Gnutella, or Gnutella2.
- bobbknight, on 05/11/2008, -0/+3Did you mean whiners?
- pendrachken, on 05/11/2008, -4/+9And thats a bad thing? seriously, last time I connected to any of those networks they were either 1. Painfully slow ( edonkey ) or full of utter CRAP - misnamed files, only partial files and files that are named after something popular but are only 65K long ( browser hijack / spambot / you name it CRAPware )
- Teej, on 05/11/2008, -0/+3Hahahahaha, I was pretty drunk when I wrote that comment and yet I still made more sense than you. Idiot.
- asspants, on 05/13/2008, -0/+2I'm a doctor!
- ers35, on 05/11/2008, -3/+5You should try it again. A properly configured client downloads most popular files in under a minute. (Files under 10 MB) Shareaza supports file filters that reduce the amount of "bad" files from search results.
- ers35, on 05/11/2008, -0/+2It would be impossible to implement a system that automatically stopped sharing copyrighted files.
- inactive, on 05/11/2008, -1/+3Maybe in your country. Plus I dont really see to many of them making it the front page.
- inactive, on 05/11/2008, -2/+4i know I'll ***** submit every torrent freak story. DIE
- aranril, on 05/14/2008, -0/+1I've been reading up on the Shareaza news for quite some time, and it's unbelievable that an entity which is, by some distant degree, related to the pro-copyright front engages in some of the most dirtiest business actions against an otherwise neutral, open-source friendly platform.
I urged everyone to donate and spread the news of Shareaza's plight to everyone else. This news hasn't been in major tech news for a majority of the time, it's high time to hit another nail in the proverbial RIAA's coffin. - taosk8r, on 05/17/2008, -0/+1Not exactly the lightest-weight app.. I would REALLY love to see a Shareaza 'light' version with more of the utorrent design philosophy.. Especially since they are making it more modular.. Let people add all that media playing system hog BS by themselves if they feel the need to use a crappy built-in media player instead of something good like bsplayer, mpui, or best smplayer ( http://smplayer.sourceforge.net/ )..
- asspants, on 05/13/2008, -0/+1your mom is a very capable multi protocol client.
- HonoredMule, on 05/11/2008, -0/+1How many versions of the same news do we need? Surely two or three /impartial/ pieces would be plenty--barring that, a couple biased pieces per major perspective on a given story.
- secleinteer, on 05/11/2008, -0/+1That's not the point - this project got hijacked by the RIAA/MPAA's goons, and the dev's are fighting back.
- Elranzer, on 05/11/2008, -0/+1WinMX has nothing on ScourExchange.
- asspants, on 05/12/2008, -1/+2Shareazza is awesome? bawhahahahhahahahahahaaaaaaaaahahahahahahah *cough* *sputter* hahwahahahwhawhawhaw ahwahhawhawhawhawhaaaaaaahwhwhaw.
That's great dude, shareazza is to filesharing as the salvation army is to macy's. - noyurawk, on 05/11/2008, -3/+3The RIAA are complete scum for infecting people with a spyware version of that application. Despicable of them to hijack domain names like that. But then again, we all know that was well within their range of expected immoral actions.
All the best to the shareaza team, I've been using it for years and I love it. Great work guys! Keep it up! Don't let those criminals bring you down, you are better than that! - Mechanicat, on 05/12/2008, -1/+2I've not used it in a while but it used to be a very capable multi protocol client. I don't use gnutella or ed2k anymore so I have no need for it.
- inactive, on 05/11/2008, -3/+2Yep pretty lame lately. All the "upcoming" articles are about Hillary and Obame FFS.
- boris4ka, on 05/11/2008, -26/+27Shareaza is a piece of ***** anyways.
- inv1ctus, on 05/11/2008, -6/+3*miscellaneous text between asteriks*
- cliffski, on 05/11/2008, -4/+1oh I'm sure they fight TOOTH and NAIL to prevent people sharing copyrighted stuff.
yeah right, just like that communist hippie stalman, they don't give a ***** about other peoples work. - tehknotte, on 05/11/2008, -7/+2Again that torrentfreak shirt.
- RyGiL, on 05/11/2008, -9/+5Shareaza still exists?
- cliffski, on 05/11/2008, -7/+1tough *****. its just used by thieves anyway. ***** em.
- rkho, on 05/11/2008, -8/+2***** THE MPAA!
- kipmartin, on 05/11/2008, -8/+3this article sure brought out the winners. dugg down.
- sheebz, on 05/11/2008, -10/+5Um, wtf are you talking about? Shareazza is an awesome application. The best torrent client imo anyways.
