- tonyruscoe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17Well, anyone can write that (of course) but the real proof is that the domain is definitely registered to Google, it's running on GFE/1.3 and its domain is a CNAME for searchmash.l.google.com that resolves to a Google IP...
- webcrumb, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Is it scary that I can tell that you're using a Mac from a screenshot of text?
Oh, and link:

Though this story was submitted a whole day before and is a direct link... WTH? - weprin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8"Oops, an error occurred! Please try again later."
- tonyruscoe, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7BTW, thanks to Pete Warden for pointing out the site was live:
http://blog.outer-court.com/forum/69943.html#id70044 - JoWiGo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5For everyone getting errors and is unsure what it is: Google is using this site as a test site for new features. It is not the same search engine and does not get as accurate results however as mentioned above is faster. AFAIK, Google is not planning on using this engine but is instead focusing on the features surrounding it, such as the images with all searches and whatnot. If you have errors it is because it is a test site. If it is ugly, it is because it is not supposed to look like Google. Refer to the original post for more help.
- cmilki, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Proof that Google operates it.

"SearchMash is a website operated by Google Inc. ("we" or "us") and your use of the site is subject to the following terms and conditions (the "Terms of Service")." - cell00, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5It's really easy, the text is much smoother. Anyone who uses a computer daily should be able to spot the difference.
Anyway, in the bury menu, there's a "duplicate", use that. - phlux, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5"It worked well for me; found what I was searching for very quickly. - Would Search With Again A++++++"
- codercode, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4wow, the searching is even faster than Google. Perhaps this is what Google plans to do in the future? Like a...testbed for their new homepage..
- w0rd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3If you want a search plugin for your firefox search box, this site has 2:
http://mycroft.mozdev.org/download.html?name=searchmash&sherlock=yes&opensearch=&submitform=Search
(Don't click on the middle one for mashproxy, that's a different site) - samste, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3haha, can you tell just from that?
- blapierre, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6This was front page yesterday, thanks for frontpaging it again!
- fredclown, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm really liking live.com these days. Don't get me wrong Google still has better results, but I really like live.com's interface. This interface seems kinda ... clunky.
- etandrib, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Search for "Google". It has some nice pictures on the side… well since I'm a straight guy… not so nice. http://www.searchmash.com/search/google
- SCAdvanced, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Seems that it does not work in Firefox 2. I don't know about the non-beta. But it does work in IE.
- MartyMcFly713, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2i dont get it. it shows google results, but what else? just a different look? all those "features" are pretty pointless on there.
- BlueLaser, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Why is Google going all incognito on this test site? If it's so easy to tie it back to the search giant, why not run it out of Google Labs and slap on the beta tag?
- sophiaperennis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The picture-section on the right-side of the textual search results, looks like a cheap rip-off from the a9.com search engine.
- Grimdotdotdot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I can't get it to show me any more results (ie. the 'next page' link does nothing).
Firefox 2 =[ - oedenfield, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2too bad it looks ugly
- malinkacc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I mistyped it and entered http://www.searchsmash.com - yes, it is registered.
- buffawhat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I really love the side-by-side display of images and text links. The interface is a little homely, but i really love how you can just type and it automatically focusses on the search box
- vectorlabz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Google should be looking to research and enhance search a lot more than they have been. This just makes them seem lazy, looking for a quick feature to add. http://www.twerq.com Now there is something worth checking out.
- titlesaysitall, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1@blapierre this one is not a dupe, this is which was submitted by me http://digg.com/tech_news/The_other_Google . check the date stamp and both.I did dupe the other story only because it did not show up in the dupe checker and had no way of knowing the other existed.

- gpelaw, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0It worked well for me; found what I was searching for very quickly.
- jtek99, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Same here. *shrug*
- sk8asd123, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I got the same msg.
- ysmsr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0the look and feel and navigation is lot like live.com. Is it trying to copy Microsoft. Or feeling the search pressures of MS?
- dannysullivan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0if anyone still doubts it's from Google, my article below has official comments from them confirming it's their site and what they are planning to do with it:
http://blog.searchenginewatch.com/blog/061002-192616 - petewarden, on 10/12/2007, -8/+4Funnily enough, I discovered it while searching for links to my own site:
http://mashproxy.com/search
