- CaptShmo, on 10/10/2007, -4/+75Rumor: it will have fairy wings and a dragon's tail and breathe out flower clouds and rainbows
- Chewie67, on 10/10/2007, -2/+59Rumor: These folks don't have a clue. Nor do the 100's of other Google Phone Rumor sites.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+43Rumor: The Gphone will have built in Wi-Fi which users will be able to access free as long as they find a Gspot.
- kidcodea, on 10/10/2007, -0/+22lightweight, no sound, standard format, context sensitive google ads piss u off?
man u should have been on the internet when vaginas and penis popped up when u went basically anywhere... and annoying smileys stole ya sys focus and yelled something giberish. - jkizzle, on 10/10/2007, -0/+21i think its completely viable, we know they are going after the 700mhz spectrum, and it would make sense to set up a service which tied all of their services together, plus the text based advertising they use to fund their services would make the jump to the phone flawlessly. Im not saying the rumors are true, but they make sense and are practical to google.
besides, it gives me a reason to not buy an iphone... - schestowitz, on 10/10/2007, -3/+22Some of that seems very unlikely and the credibility of the sources has been addressed already. Another noteworthy rumour (from Phoronix) is that Google has been talking to the Moko team, in which case the possibility of the phone being open source emerges.
- xTRUMANx, on 10/10/2007, -4/+22I would put more faith in a website called google-iphone-rumors-britney-upskirts.blogspot.com than wired.com.
- SnuKs, on 10/10/2007, -1/+18Being announced in 2 weeks and likely to be released in NA by the end of the year? WOW someone has really high hopes for this phone.
Though I'm sure he's pullin all these things outta his ass, im hoping that it is true. Too bad Verizon wont get this phone. Verizon will NEVER release a phone without screwing it with what they think is a nice UI of their own. - RainDrizzleFog, on 10/10/2007, -1/+18Google ads are like the least intrusive around, plus it facilitates a free site. I'm pretty sure the phone won't have ads.
- MBHoy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+15Why read about a rumour when you can just make one up?
- neodorian, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10Rumor: Those who do manage to locate Gspots usually receive much better service.
- shortarabguy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9I hate to say it, but you MIGHT be right, but it's extremely unlikely...
Let's pretend that the 700 mhz spectrum can be used to broadcast data and telephony( television is out for the obvious reason that disallowing it was the reason it was available for auction in the first place). If they were to go into data and expand their program of bringing wireless internet to all, as they've been doing in San Francisco, then that's that and we're all retarded.
If, on the other hand, they go into telephony, they'll have to make a second move to bring phones to the market which actually support that band( even quad-band telephones weren't made to support 700 mhz). Either they'll have to make their own phone to go with their own band, or they'll strike a deal with another company to make phones for them( albeit more financially responsible and easier, seeing as Google's no Motorola, Nokia, or Samsung).
OR Google's going to do what Google ALWAYS does, and come out with something that surprises all of us, but makes perfect sense in retrospect. - terminalpariah, on 10/10/2007, -3/+10Rumour: Google would rather make a software package and sell it to an existing phone manufacturer (or manufacturers).
- jdbeast00, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7"I haven't seen anything from google that shows they know how to build great interfaces for mass appeal."
...wtf? Where have you been since 1997? - tonaros, on 11/14/2007, -2/+9I dunno, Google's pretty accurate with the targeting.
- GliTCH82, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Rumor: People test the waters by creating rumors that they hope will be corrected by the company they're creating rumors about, in effect giving them information they once weren't privy to.
- mrdorian, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6TRUTH: Very few men are able to find Gspots, according to stats
- betterth, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Right, which is exactly why they sell indexing servers to corporations instead of indexing software suites for them to run on their own servers.
- justice7, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5GSM is more about having choice to choose your own phone and plug your SIM card in as desired.. without consulting with the company involved
- moocow1452, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Sch-weeeett!
- Hockey37, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Such a primitive network would never be the dominant technology in Europe, right?
Oh, wait....... - shortarabguy, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6You're aware that it would be a phone, right?
- shortarabguy, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5Actually, no it wouldn't... That's like selling Google Desktop to Comcast. Google doesn't leave business to incompetent groups, so it tends to absorb everything it needs and then handles everything itself.
- Icebird, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4I call BS. The "source" is a friend's friend of the person blogging on that site. Buried as Inaccurate.
- opes, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3bears. beats. battlestar galactica
- Amablue, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Since it's open source, couldn't someone just change the OS to not include ads?
- PunkRampant, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2It's the iPhone all over again!
And we all know how credible THOSE early reports were.
/sarcasm - jkizzle, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2lol building interfaces is what google made billions doing... lol
- Arctirus, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I saw that same pic months ago as pic of the then unreleased iphone. Fake.
- kertong, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2All the rumors may be unsubstantiated, but aside from all that, the gphone does exist.
- cawpin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Well, if it is powered by Linux and is open I don't care if Verizon tries to work their "magic" on it. I can change it to whatever I want.
- m3mn0n, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Leave a comment, not an article. Sheesh.
- sikedsyko, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1i can think of a few other reasons not to buy an iphone
- omarciddo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Last I checked there were lots of iPhone rumors floating around before its announcement. Don't disregard these.
- digjam, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Will it work on hot and free Gspots???
- thedragon4453, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I have verizon now, and their UI is ***** retarded. I was really annoyed once I realized how much I dislike the UI on my phone, and then found out they put it on all their phones.
- uttertosser, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I for one welcome our new gphone bearing overlords
- Antialias, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I'll accept that they have made money. But the Google search interface has been picked on numerous times for usability issues. Gmail has a ton of issues, and when Google video was launched, the interface was the butt of many jokes across the net. Google maps has a great interface, but I don't think Google has a "great" track record on interfaces. Their strength is functionality/features, not interface and how easy it is to use.
- akira117, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1The Gspot is said to increase cell phone reception
- msgyrd, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Rumors still need a source. A random dude using his friend as a source is about as credible as me saying the iPhone is being recalled, because, you know, my car mechanic told me so.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1This phone looks like garbage.
Sent from my iPhone. - atlex2, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1YEA BABY, YEA!
- thedragon4453, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1It would be so ***** rad if they decided to call it a gspot.
- m3mn0n, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Buried for identity theft.
/dwight - bariswheel, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1You sir have set a new record in douchebaggerie.
- digglugg, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1any rumors about the reception quality?
- ScionX, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1it looks like a monitor, it's hideous.
- specialK16, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1That was the point of GSM, but then came the greedy corporations and locked cellphones.
- fLUx1337, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Rumor: Apple Phone will wear a halo, will fly, and will have a button to instantly talk to god himself...and will be called iJesus
^^even though its not, I still love you iPhone! ;) - Skyhusker, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Wrong. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tivoization
