- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+88Honestly I never saw what the big deal was about Rocketboom. One of the founding guys was on This Week In Tech a few weeks ago, and I've never in my life heard more disconnections, horrid theories, and really, really terrible marketing strategies from one person.
Its gotta be the name. - MrWizzle, on 10/12/2007, -9/+60@Flag564
Wow, that was one smooth move! Some of us, y'know, the decent people, like to employ tact when it comes to matters like this, because believe it or not, some other people (including Amanda, no doubt) have feelings! I understand that when you're in the media spotlight, you have to be willing to accept criticism (some constructive, much not), and I'm sure your delightful message will be much appreciated. If I were famous, I'd be sure to "prepair" myself for messages just like yours. Total ***** ignorance in grammar, spelling, and decency ftw! - squidmarks, on 10/12/2007, -28/+79I will go where Amanda's boobies go
- jasonwert, on 10/12/2007, -3/+44Damn, you summed up my thoughts exactly. He was one of the worse guests that has ever been on TWIT. He kept trying to make these long speeches about his theories and he had such an annoying voice.
- saxjazman9, on 10/12/2007, -5/+46yea, that kid that was on TWIT... annoyed the hell out of me.... wtf was he thinking.... what a retard.
- RandomSkratch, on 10/12/2007, -5/+41Amanda was one of the main reasons why I loved watching Rocketboom! She was not only a superb host but also a very funny, attractive nerd.. I'm not going to be watching the pod casts anymore because I can't stand Mr. Petis. He seems 2 dimensional.
- duster, on 10/12/2007, -11/+47There was audio on that show? I only watched it because Amanda's smoking hot.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+39Pardon the ad hominem, but Andrew really seems to be a moron of the very highest caliber. This is probably the best thing that could have happened to Ms. Congden, she simply may not have realized it yet. Distancing herself from the downright bizarre (and thoroughly wrong) business habits of her partner is an incredibly good move.
- mgoddard, on 10/12/2007, -4/+35Maybe thats exactly why she left? Cause he is a moron.
- Chewie67, on 10/12/2007, -1/+29Why bother watching RocketBoom now?
- memoryleek, on 10/12/2007, -3/+29I was never a fan of rocketboom and yes Andy was really annoying when he was on TWIT. This is really interesting considering their popularity. HMMM....a scandal in IPTV is afoot!!!!
- LegendarySock, on 10/12/2007, -5/+29maybe not "smoking hot" but shes cute and whacky
sexy combination. - SpollakPrime, on 10/12/2007, -2/+22Calcanis man, he had it pegged is all I gotta say. Rocketboom looks like it is dead in the water, just like North Korea's long range test missle.
- JangoFett, on 10/12/2007, -5/+25I'd never heard of Rocketboom until the TWIT episode so, in spite of the annoying founder, I stopped by to check it out and found it to be just okay. It is pretty well put together for IPTV and Congdon was good, but the stories just seemed dated. If you pay attention to news RSS feeds and sites like Digg, a weekly tech news cast just seems archaic.
Shows like TWIT and Diggnation, which have a discussion on a topic are much more interesting than watching the web equivalent of the CBS nightly news. - judsond, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21blah, I'm gay and he annoyed the hell out of me. just because you have a terrible horrible grating voice doesn't make you gay though, haha.
I think people might be surprised who think rocketboom will survive, as far as I can tell a semi-hot girl talking about tech was the entire draw for the show. - chriskzoo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18I think he was on Episode 56 (or right around there). I love how Leo came on the next Podcast and said he has to lock down the comments on TwiT.tv b/c of all the homophobic remarks. Seriously, that kid came on and was the only one speaking for a good 3/4 of the show. I literally wanted to choke him LOL
- rabiddogma, on 10/12/2007, -4/+21Yes I think they do that with "computers."
- jdstorer2, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18I can't say I'll be watching RB anymore. While Amanda may or may not have "writers" do the work, her presentation of the program was why it was worth watching.
- armbar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15Andy was on Episode 57.
http://twit.tv/57 - diggapleaze, on 10/12/2007, -13/+28I'm sick of guys on digg and slashdot never having anything decent to say about females other than how they look. No wonder chicks are often put off by the "geek culture", it's filled with insecure ***** like you that would rather vomit out a sentence with "boobs" and "*****" inserted than give female credit where credit is due. And looking at the number of diggs you just got for one of the lamest things I've ever seen on the internet, I feel ashamed for my entire gender.
Amanda's leaving what will go down in history as the first great and widely watched IPTV shows; acknowledge that. And all you can say is "boobs". Diggers, quit trying to one up each other to see how womanizing you can sound, it's really transparent and pathetic. Grow the ***** up and get a girlfriend. - Wolfboy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17that really sucks.
Interesting, though, that Andrew has 51 percent, Amanda has 49 percent ownership. But Amanda was so fun to watch, she was far more than 51 percent of the reason I subscribed to the Rocketboom podcast.
Andrew will have a have a major challenge replacing her. I'm wondering what more there is to the story.
Amanda is smart and talented so should should rebound. Maybe this is her opportunity to move up to better things. - beg513, on 10/12/2007, -3/+17If they continue that show nobody is going to watch it, Amanda's show will be more watched
- troydoogle7, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16Amanda was the heart of the show. I hope he pulls his fingers out of his ass and realise that. Perhaps they can move on.
- djacobs003, on 10/12/2007, -4/+17I think they will loose alot of viewers. Amanda was (is) cool.
- deirdres, on 10/12/2007, -9/+22AFAIK, the writing was a team task. Rocketboom will be different without Amanda (and she without Rocketboom), but I don't think we should consider either to be automatically off the list of interesting things to watch.
- unangst, on 10/12/2007, -11/+23Amanda's run with Rocketboom was just chapter one.
Send her a note of encouragement at: unboomed AT gmail DOT com. - ClassicJBC, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15I'm sure I'm not alone on this one, but Amanda was essentially the only reason I watched. Not only is she gorgeous, but she has a great on-air personality. Y' know, Kevin, diggnation could always use another host...
- KeyLimePie, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13There's already a plethora of sites where one can get their tech news. The only leverage Rocketboom had was Amanda. This is a bad bad move.
- DarthTurducken, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13I've heard there's this one called Digg - but apparently it's a total sausagefest.
- jav1231, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12WTF was he thinking? He will go down in a long list of "You ain't nothin' without me, Doll!" only to find her on TV someday with a huge contract thinking, "Wow! I wonder what crow tastes like!? Wait! Andrew does, I'll just call him and ask!" Rocketboom will lose a ***** of viewers and whatever Amanda does will gain. True, you won't see everyone dump Rocketboom but you will see, I dunno, 90% do so. Somebody ask Andrew if success if overrated. Apparently, he thinks so. OTOH, she may well have been a royal bitch. Still, to think Rocketboom will survive this is a huge risk. For the record, I don't even subscribe to the show but pointing out the obvious is sort of an impulse of mine. :)
- Mullinsmcd, on 10/12/2007, -9/+19You're abs right. Name 100 podcasts and I promise you that all the ones with attractive women hosts are all in the top 15 rated/viewed. There is a clear bias in shows that incite boners.
The show content itself never made much sense to me. - sdigroup, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12Rocketboom will now officially teh suck...
Good luck Amanda :) - chubbymidget, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12I found her attractive but annoying to listen to. And the writing ranged from grating through sophomoric. I killed my TiVo cast of it long ago.
- Fantt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10From the wikipedia article:
"On June 19, 2006, the San Francisco Chronicle noted that Congdon had 'scored an interview with billionaire philanthropist George Soros' and asked if she could be 'the next Katie Couric?'"
Basically she's being fired at the very height of Rocketboom's power, influence and popularity. Great move! - agentgray, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Notice in the video that the map of the world is upside down? LOL.
- danlovejoy, on 10/12/2007, -12/+21I derive an inordinate amount of psychological glee at hitting the "block" button on people like Flag564. Wouldn't it be great if you could just delete deeply unhappy and unpleasant people from your subjective reality like you can on Digg? What a fabulous tool, that button!
- MrWizzle, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12They totally objectified her and called her a bitch. Are you really surprised she got angry?
- rekka, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Without her it'll be a completely different show. Not sure I'll keep up.
- daball99, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Rocketboom has always been 20% content and 80% presentation. Amanda will be fine no matter what she does or where she goes.
- Melr00k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I stopped watching Rocketboom shortly after seeing Andrew on TwiT. I couldn't support anything he had a hand in producing. He is so ***** deluded and honestly believes that HE is the reason Rocketboom was popular. Wow... Amanda was a great get. 1 part silly, 1 part geeky, 1 part pretty, 1 part smart and funny... but soon after getting a whiff of Andrew and his crap (that he swears doesn't stink), I noticed that the things that I didn't like about Rocketboom. It's pretentious, self-congratulating, holier-than-thou, condescension of it's audience was infact just that Andrew a-hole in a pretty package. I will never give him another cent. Not his websites or his podcasts nor will I buy him a sandwich when I next see him on skid-row holding a sign that says "I am genius in need of a laptop so that I can alienate people. Please give me money."
- celeronxl, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Normally I'd be here saying "hoax! publicity stunt!" But after seeing Andrew on TWiT, I know he's dumb enough to do something like this.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -8/+15I had a feeling that the comment thread for this story would be a Douchebag Circus. As usual, you ***** never let me down. Those of you posting honest, legitimate comments may disregard my short rant.
- Wolfboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7According to the comments by Andrew and another guy in a videoblog forum, it looks like she and Andrew hit a point of irreconcilable differences and she quit. He says he didn't know of it till he saw the video today.

start there and look at the follow-up messages if you care to read more - MattS, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Whatever happened, it happened badly. For that, I am sorry to see Rocketboom go the way of a North Korean missile....
I have more sympathy for Amanda though... Andy on TWIT was laughable... - JorgeGonzalez, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Can someone explain the "behind the scenes" of Rocketboom? I had just always thought it was a one-person operation by that chick. I didn't know there was an actual staff or anything with writers.
This news is pretty shocking to me because I thought it was a rather mediocre show and figured it was just a bunch of Internet nerds wacking it to this chick, think she's great. But if a ton of people were making this? That's just sad. It's terrible. - DocDEB, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I felt bad for Leo on that one. It was like herding cats.
- Pignanelli, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Let me just generalize a little bit more... I'm not sure I'm so thrilled with this whole "voting determines the value of a comment" idea to begin with. I supposed it's a concept, but obviously a flawed one.
If anything, the ultimate value of Digg is to show how little worth there is in group think, something I think we increasingly realize as we wade through the lists of defensive and derisive comments (not that it's not enjoyable...).
Words themselves are inadequate for many tasks, and nowhere is that seen more in evidence than here. :) - britkev1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6This is a pretty odd move on their part. Why change an already top rated show? If you want a change, create a new show. Unless RB can come up with some fantastic new host, I see the popularity hitting rock bottom.
- Seidoger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I was always a fan of her incredible charisma and how she just had her random funny emotional hick-ups on the show. She had it i think! I liked that show!
- ChuyMatt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5You, sir, are an extremely odd person...

What is Digg?
