- PiMPSP, on 10/11/2007, -6/+85Digg me down or whatever but wtf is GreyLock ?
- Claw787, on 10/11/2007, -2/+61Hope this will make theBroken to continue it's production.
- thinkingserious, on 10/11/2007, -3/+43Congrats to the Revision3 team! And yes, please bring back theBroken.
- nugge7, on 10/11/2007, -4/+41Does this mean we won't need to donate anymore to get the video content early?
- mikes, on 10/11/2007, -9/+37I wonder how Kevin is going to deny this one. :)
- mushroom, on 10/11/2007, -0/+24GreyLock is a venture capital firm
http://www.greylock.com/ - jagtar, on 10/11/2007, -3/+25i love rev3 and what they do, but wtf do they need $8million for??
- sadsac, on 10/11/2007, -0/+15They should use the 8mil to make a buddy movie starring Kevin and Alex, where they are up to wacky hijinks. Sarah and Brendan are jobless, maybe they could write the screenplay and make a cameo.
- deadbaby, on 10/11/2007, -0/+14What do they need $8M for? DIGGNATION: The Movie.
- KicktheDonkey, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10Yes! Bring back theBroken! And the old comment system!
- Testify.Alex, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9When do they start making there own money???
- ECas123, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10And Apple products.
- KingAdrock, on 10/11/2007, -11/+20yea I clicked a few shows.. terrible - and the "mysteries of science explained" series totally lost the edge it had way back when Sarge had his show. Hate to be negative, but they need better content quick!
- whistlerpro, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8GreyLock would only be putting in the money in if they thought they could get more money out... any money they get from donations would help the shows, and enable them to spend the GreyLock money on something more future centric.
- thunderer, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9Quality beer.
- JoeBaynham, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8Can you say KERCHINGGGGGGG!?
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6Do you have any idea the costs to run that *****? Bandwidth, equipment, paying of talent. It's a costly business. It's just like TV
- popltree2, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4They are building an actual studio last I heard. So that could be a decent chuck of it.
- jobobshishkabob, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Except that Digg and Rev3 are different companies who happen to be run by a couple of the same guys...
- hackbot205, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3ignore this...can't delete comments :(
- ECas123, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3The only good show on Rev3 are Diggnation, the broken, TRS, and systm. They need 8 million dollars for talking about tech, movies, games, hacking, getting drunk and installing MythTV?
- OBKenobi, on 10/11/2007, -3/+6Greylock should give them an extra $100 to fix this convoluted comment system.
- craterburnsu, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I agree it would be cool to have more varied productions. I'd love to finally see the sitcom Alex discussed so long ago.
- crimsonredmk, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3You mean Bevis and Butt-Head, on Diggnation...but will it matter...this comment system nicely nested knowledge into a View 1 Reply button, Congratulations!
- s02mike, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4they should go to Nick Swardson and get Gay Robot. that would then put a comedy show in the line up.. or they could get Jeff's comedy group to do sketches
- gometro33, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Advertisers pay as much as $15k for one of the "personal" ads on Diggnation (according to that 60 Minutes -- or whatever show it was -- spot they had a while back). A couple shows that reach the same popularity and there is your profit.
- WalesAlex, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Hell yes.
- rowlodge, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2money goes in but none comes out?
- steevo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Most likely they need the money to hire more talent, invest in the production quality of the shows and most of all pay for bandwidth
They got that 1 mil a while ago so i'd bet they've burned through most of it by now. with 8 mil in the bank they should be able to slowly add more content and be able to focus on quality and not just throw crap out there in hopes of getting advertisers.
one thing I could see them starting to do with this kind of money is some scripted content, which is something i would like to see. not that i expect to see half hour sitcoms or anything but short video's kinda like Tiki bar. hell i could even see them buying Tiki bar - TheOther1, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Yes, KERCHINGGGGGGG
- Spanca, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2KERCHUNGGGGGGG!
No I can't :( - cavemonkey50, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2They have to pay the hosts and editing crews. From what it appears, the majority of the hosts are doing Rev3 stuff full time now and they certainly need to be payed. Not to mention there are certain expenses such as products for Indigital, games and movie tickets for the Totally Rad Show, equipment for Systm, and the most important of all, bandwidth bills.
- nevas, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Its a routine in business to keep ones popularity without diminishing. So they have to disclose these kind of information to people.
- ECas123, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Except it's on teh_tubez
- Doggpound, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1What does Kevin have to deny? Its not like he is getting this money personally. The money is used to run the business. Yeah he gets paid a salary and is doing fine I am sure but what does that matter?
- dvdcr, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1i loled
- test5477, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1i like diggnation and the broken, used to like systm but its getting a little boring. As for TRS, sorry but i think alex can get annoying and can hog the conversation at times. I like alex though but just needs to settle down and shh a little more. Good job Jay & Kev, more of systm please and you need a "Dark Tipper" show, could even be user generated.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1lolz @ bevies
- pamon, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1ok, so they got $8mm in funding, how are they going to turn Revision 3 into a profit making site? There's only so much $$ coming in from adsense and ads and people aren't going to continue to pay for videos on their site. Just post them as they are released vs the preferred members being able to download them ahead of time. I enjoy diggnation but the totally rad show needs to go.
- PiMPSP, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1lmao!!! agreed
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -4/+4It has 4 episodes that weren't all that groudbreaking. WTF?
- bigdan1985, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Nice work getting $8 mil in investment. I'm a fan of Diggnation, so I'm happy to see that continue.
- Erectile, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Haha Totally Rad Show is so *****.
- simplenation, on 10/11/2007, -7/+7the totally rad show > all
- digg0t, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1That would require millions of dollars
- greatromance, on 10/11/2007, -8/+7@KingAdrock
The content rocks. Good for them. They've been putting out great content right from the get-go. - staffrocket, on 10/11/2007, -4/+2Read teh comments buddy:
http://digg.com/tech_news/Revision3_Raises_8_million_From_Greylock?t=7361111#c7361321 - USAOwnz, on 10/11/2007, -9/+7I'd like 9 million. Who wants to see my videos of nothing but advertising ads? It's really cool..
- Lick, on 10/11/2007, -5/+2IT'S OVER $8 MILLION?!
- OhJay, on 10/11/2007, -6/+2Wouldn't a more prudent question be: Why should I care about Revision3?
Online videos aren't exactly a niche area anymore. -
