I am broadcasting my own lack of IQ right now...so this totally speaking from my own experience. (long live the long-tail, after all it is a good book to read )

The Long Tail by Chris Anderson says that if you dramatically lower the cost of production and distribution, you can offer far more variety and with more variety and the tools to find it, people will gravitate toward their own individual tastes rather than settling for traditional blockbusters. In long tail markets the tyranny of shelf space driving a hit driven mentality goes away as hits lose their monopoly sharing the stage with millions of niche products. Economists always said that as transactions costs and information costs go down massively greater economic activity ensues.
