- Alegoo92, on 10/11/2007, -0/+16People don't always leave for the more superior service. That's why Myspace is still huge.
- pwallroth, on 10/11/2007, -0/+14Pownce and Twitter don't really fill any void I have in my life. They are neat, but I spend too much time inside as it is.
- jlgosse, on 10/11/2007, -0/+13I should have said this in the actual "announcement" story, but how does this have any chance against Facebook? If I want to let all my friends know about an event or a cool link, I post it on Facebook; Shortly after I post whatever I want, 300+ people know about my post/idea.
Honestly, there's no point in me even signing up or trying to get friends to sign up, because people do NOT want to have to check something like this AND facebook for new "stuff". Also, most of my friends check Facebook at regular intervals, so it seems like a much better (see: easier) way to share.
Am I wrong in thinking this way? - mdkoch84, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1230 diggs? did kevin rose put this on the front page himself?
- williamw, on 10/11/2007, -0/+11I really can't see Pownce "winning", mainly because it is currently unable to take statuses via SMS, which affects a major portion of Twitter'rs.
- xpose, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7I dont see a point to twitter or pownce. Am I in the minority or what?
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6I see Kevin is following his standard MO. Stea.. er take inspiration from something other people are already doing and useing his D list celebrity status to make it popular.
- Glenn, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Looking forward to giving this a try, it looks like a great alternative to Twitter, although I can't provide any views until I've tried it out personally. I think I'll be using both side-by-side until I get a better in-sight as to who will be the "winner."
- chill392, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Anyone got an invite? I'd kill for one. D:
- NycterisA, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4Well don't forget Jaiku.
- mr_mechanics, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I seriously can't tell if your trying to be funny.
- resplence, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Facebook is only established on the US. There's more to the web than that.
- pinkegobox, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2i have to agree with comments at the top, facebook not only already does most of this, but also has the non-geek crowd using it... regularly. A stand alone "updating" service, or whatever, just isn't going to achieve the same level of penetration. It seems like a middle ground between facebook and instant messaging, and I really don't think we need a middle ground in this case! I should point out that for those same reasons I've never used/been even remotely interested in twitter - is there some killer feature here that I'm missing?
- jeffeb3, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2what was that giant digg banner/button on the bottom of the page? It makes it seem like the article was written so that people would digg the story.
- chriskey, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1i'm with you on that, Facebook is established. I won't be trying another, even if it is by "God"
- directsun, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1The author states that WITH status via SMS it would win.
From article:
"The verdict? Seems pretty clear to me. Pownce with text messaging is going to own Twitter as it is..." - MagicBobert, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1You can change that you know, in your preferences. ;)
- Urusai, on 10/11/2007, -4/+5Spam.
- cmfrolick, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I don't have a Facebook account, and aside from my 21 year old sister-in-law, don't know anyone with one. I like this idea, and there are a lot of people that do not have accounts with Facebook or Myspace. I know my wife would very likely use this in communicating on event planning with my sister-in-laws and our parents, they do it strictly through email now.
- directsun, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1yes it is... reminds me of Mitus
- mdkoch84, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1digg, facebook, myspace, flickr, google, etc etc just needs to combine into one BIG web 2.0 app so all of us can just goto one website to get our net fix. that way we can keep track of what our friends (real and virtual) are up to. then the CIA can tap in, sit back, and monitor it all with minimal effort.
- chrisrowe, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Facebook is huge and booming in UK
Bebo is the current leader but Facebook is catching up fast! - Emilio8605, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Show me the body and I'll give you an invite.
- pinkegobox, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1In all fairness... facebook are trying to achieve that, but they can't be bothered to code it themselves, so they've let everyone else do it for them ;)
- latone, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0No worries, Ev...I'm going to save Twitter...I'm developing a mobile Twitter Browser to support any content type...including "messages, links, files, and events."
- digger109, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Every little thing that Kevin Rose does is not magic despite the common belief. Even though I do not know much about this new venture of his but other than the snazzy name, it did not sound like it is going to be something substantial.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Fanboys.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1We will have to see. Pownce has an advertisement advantage at its start at a minimum. It will be slow starting out as most users will have to recruit friends.
- Craga89, on 10/11/2007, -4/+1Off topic, what in the hell is happening to the comment system? Any one else noticed they're sorting by digg count now? And that theres no longr a reply link? I like the new sorting system since the "best" comments are at the top, but now people are replying by new paret comments, so they make no sense...

What is Digg?
