- 10goto10, on 10/11/2007, -0/+19Kevin Rose's Pownce scores a point over Twitter on SEARCH FUNCTIONALITY? If only Digg could do that.
- Coal, on 10/11/2007, -2/+20No offence to whoever, but how is Pownce hot?
It has onlybeen out for a few days, and it still is using invites. - outgun, on 10/11/2007, -4/+12Allow me to end this. They are both lame.
- Scyth3, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8I...almost....care. Honestly, it's like Facebook/MySpace but stripped down. I don't see what all the hype is about [aside from the Kevin Rose fanboys flipping out].
- sockpuppets, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7*cough*
http://www.digg.com/tech_news/Digg_Hates_Pownce_and_Kevin_Rose - supermajic, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5There are clearly more pressing issues at hand then Pownce vs Twitter. We can argue about them after the Digg comment system is fixed.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4No, we won't.
- chris9902, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4wtf is micro blogging?
I feel like such an old fart on the Internet and I'm in my twenties. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4MICRO BLOGGING?
Please stop inventing buzzwords. I thought Pownce was meant as a smaller scale IM client with group share (IM, files, media).
Besides, ***** em both. AIM has served my needs for almost a decade now. - chris9902, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2make it stop
make it stop
make it stop - TheMatador, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Personally I think Pownce has a much higher ceiling in terms of functionality, plus I think we can all agree here that facebook, like myspace before it, has become way too bloated to be enjoyable to use anymore. Pownce and Twitter both maintain the simplicity and spartan interface that made facebook in its early days so easy and fun, but Pownce seems so much less... banal. Twitter seems too much like a novelty and not enough like a useful social networking app... if I want to check up on what my friends are doing, why wouldn't I just look at their away message on AIM?
- championchap, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2As far as I'm aware nobody "came up" with the word.
It came about from the very common typo of "Owned" in online gaming. It's just one key out.
Eventually it just became accepted. - winmywii, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Because Kevin Rose is involved. Digg users will like anything Kevin puts out.
- championchap, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1-1 Twitter: Honestly, what the ***** is the point?
What are you doing? Well.. I'm on Twitter, posting about how I'm on Twitter writing this post. - d3bruts1d, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Here is another one for you...
MINIblogging. http://mashable.com/2007/07/03/pownce-rivals/ - championchap, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Its more like mySpace bulletins.. but with file share and the ability to send to some contacts rather than always all of them.
Its an interesting idea, but building an entire website around it? hmm.. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -4/+5I just came here to say that I will be sticking with AIM and Facebook, but thank you anyway!
- d3bruts1d, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I find that I like Pownce far better than Twitter... but Pownce still has room for improvement.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Kevin Rose = Bill Gates.
- crushfan, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Kevin Rose is not actually a person. IT is an idea, or like a hologram. It is a shapeshifter in the Internets.
- d3bruts1d, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I'd prefer Digg fix the search before the comment system.
- d3bruts1d, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1That was a man?!?!?!?!?
- resplence, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Then again, someone built a website around a man ripping his anus apart. This is the internet, after all.
- d3bruts1d, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Blogging a little bit at a time. It's even smaller than miliblogging.
- DanH, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1some guy who steals credit for other people's ideas.
- DanH, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1why is this even a competition? pownce blows.
- miniboss, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1I was all excited to get a pownce account and once i installed it i felt nothing. If it weren't for Kevin Rose's name behind it then nobody would be interested in this.
- TheYoshi, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1If I was 14 this would probably be a huge debate in my life. Since I am not, I find myself feeling previously unimaginable levels of apathy.
- steveoco, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Never used either, don't really have any incentive to either.
- PeteyBugs, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0Seriously - I routinely end up on the twitter website, every time thinking I'm missing out on something cool because I hear so many people talk about it.
Every time I am amazed by how useless it appears to be. Am I missing something? Do I care what anyone is doing right this second? How is it possible that anyone uses this website? - DeathRay2K, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1Aaannd its down.
- azenone, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1Who is this Kevin Rose person?
- newseamus, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0-my friends and I have our own php message board to "microblog" on...I dont know and dont really care about random people on twitter.
-i have NO need for a another social network site (haven't loggged on to my facebook in ages)
-my friends and I are already on TUBES or ftp to share files.
Why should I wait for some "cool kid" to invite me to pownce???
Its time to think beyond social networking. - Stryder81, on 10/11/2007, -3/+2I wish I could find the nerd who made up the word " Pwns " and choke him till' he's blue in the face.
- Weenis, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1I still prefer Jaiku...
- mundofr, on 10/11/2007, -2/+0wordpress is down :(
mirror http://duggmirror.com/tech_news/Pownce_vs_Twitter_Who_Pwns/ - EllisAshbrook, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1Pownce isn't even public. Twitter FTW!
- grandmasterflex, on 10/11/2007, -2/+0With all of the Pownce stories hitting the front page, I would say it's a love-hate relationship.
Remember, any publicity is good publicity. - dareiff, on 10/11/2007, -4/+1+1 Twitter: Simplicity rules.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -6/+1If you read the article, it makes strides on Twitter's shortcomings despite the fact that it's still in private beta.
- G_Raph, on 10/11/2007, -7/+1its still a baby and has a lot of growing up to do. In a year or two, everybody will be using it and we will have all but forgotton of its slow start.
- frizzyhair3d, on 10/11/2007, -11/+2Another important thing in Pownce's favor is the team behind it. It's Kevin Rose! Kevin Rose and Daniel Burka have the experience of running Digg behind them, which is an asset that the Twitter founders don't have. The Twitter people may understand the few prominent bloggers who helped spread Twitter, but it seems to me that Kevin understands US. I have a gut feeling that Pownce will do well not so much because of the technology, but because Kevin is behind it. Plus, Twitter is written is Ruby on Rails, which makes it pretty slow and unreliable at times. Kevin knows how to run a high-traffic site.
This other story has a good post about how Kevin's personality and Internet presence will be huge factors in Pownce's success:
http://digg.com/tech_news/Is_Kevin_Rose_s_Personality_the_Only_Reason_for_Pownce_s_Success - tnatharik, on 10/11/2007, -10/+1Pownce Pwns.
What is Digg?
