- kenvsryu, on 10/11/2007, -8/+100The comment system still needs help.
- PATSCRU, on 10/11/2007, -2/+88IM on digg? great, now the Ron Paul people can harass me in realtime.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+59"Private messaging has been the gaping hole in the Digg experience "
i really dont come on digg to pm people - therealgeddylee, on 10/11/2007, -2/+51Is private messaging on Digg really all that necessary? I would imagine more flaming would be going on then anything.. I think the idea of a 'community' doesn't involve private messaging, that's why it's called a community. Commenting/discussion systems and collaboration represent community, not private messaging. Still, why not?
- LordofShadows, on 10/11/2007, -1/+36Digg buries people who claim things.
- punchingjudy, on 10/11/2007, -2/+35How long will it take to get the first "NO UR WRONG ASHOLE!" message?
- rolosworld, on 10/11/2007, -3/+34"Give is a little time" == milliseconds?
- mcflynnthm, on 10/11/2007, -1/+32Why exactly would I want to message my fellow Diggers?
- merdiesel, on 10/11/2007, -3/+34If Kevin Rose commented on a story about jumping off a bridge would you digg it?..
- tehzombie, on 10/11/2007, -0/+29I've always found that I don't actually even read the members names, I just read the comments, get a laugh and then carry on. I personally believe that the messenger would be completely pointless for this site, since I find its community driven, but not exactly a full community like one you'd have on a message forum.
That's just my opinion. - Ninjab3ar, on 10/11/2007, -4/+33Did you just say 'tight'?...
- tHePeOPle, on 10/11/2007, -3/+27It's like being in a union. If you make all the other slackers look bad, the union slashes your tires and burns down your wife.
- uptown, on 10/11/2007, -0/+23Burns down your wife, huh?
- noodlez, on 10/11/2007, -1/+22looks like the comment editing system does too :)
- sigginike90, on 10/11/2007, -0/+20It's mostly the appearance that needs a fix, of the comment system that is. It's so ugly...
- Markers, on 10/11/2007, -0/+19Digg can smell fear....
- LordofShadows, on 10/11/2007, -0/+18There are 0 people in this channel.
- Glugory, on 10/11/2007, -4/+20Well it's good to know that even guys who have $60 million have problems with grammar too.
- NessTheHero, on 10/11/2007, -0/+15I don't get why tech blogs refer to things as ____-killers. There won't be a facebook killer anytime soon and if there is, it will be something to behold.
I guess the definition of "killing" changed from "removing from existance completely" to "doing something slightly better even though they are still around." - StealthTomato, on 10/11/2007, -0/+15Ooh, are those the spicy salted kind?
- dagnabbit, on 10/11/2007, -0/+15So you can tell them, hey digg my story and I'll digg yours, and we can all totally game the system, duh.
- TSCheredar, on 10/11/2007, -0/+14Top diggers is a bad Idea. Also, IM is not really essential for me to socialize on digg. Perhaps you should consider revising the user profiles instead.
- mrhaines, on 10/11/2007, -4/+17More changes to digg? Man where have the days of sweet minimalism gone? Its turning into another "yahoo"
- StealthTomato, on 10/11/2007, -0/+13Using a complex algorithm borrowed from Google, I'd say anywhere between .03 and .05 seconds.
- mrmdc, on 10/11/2007, -0/+11digg has never been considered minimalist.
reddit, *thats* minimalist. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+12"Give is a little time -- very big updates coming to digg"
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE make a Pownce section so I can ignore this *****. Look at me, I'm a Powncer! I have a Pownce sweatshirt! I got Pownced! Powncenation rulz! Teeheehee!
Seriously, this Pownce ***** isn't news, and it isn't cute. In fact, it's really starting too look desperate. Please stop promoting this garbage. - Topher06, on 10/11/2007, -0/+10Why do you need private messaging on Digg? You have numerous IM clients out there, if you really need to communicate with Digg users, then just let Digg users publish their IM tags, or put in a system where you request to IM tag. Digg is a social website, but it doesn't need private communication, there are other websites that are dedicated to that (i.e. like Facebook or MySpace perhaps). Digg doesn't have to be everything for everyone, and in fact, most websites that become jack of all trade websites lose visitors, not gain them.
- mc7winkie, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10Don't worry. I speak jive.
- mrmdc, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9I'm pretty sure a lot of people here would.
- cheerybounce, on 10/11/2007, -3/+11Private messages would end up with nothing else but abuse. There's IRC and most of you guys are not worth chatting at.
- jrbrewin, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8click profile, click commented on. There's your comment history. bravo.
spot on with the reddit comment though. reddit also loads quicker, has a better commenting system, and doesn't log people out every 3 minutes. - skyer, on 10/11/2007, -1/+9If the site would be able to keep up with the load time, that would be great.
- mrhaines, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7Um, I think you are mistaken...there aren't any ladies on digg.
- mattmcm, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7Kosmox, that doesn't work if your comment is a reply to another one, since it wouldn't have been loaded along with the page thanks to the nifty ajax features.
- jd33, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7Who you callin Digger?
- scanman20, on 10/11/2007, -2/+9Sure you just don't wanna blow him instead?
- denhamcoote, on 10/11/2007, -3/+10Pity you can't spell either, loser.
"Looser" is something you would say about your mom... Like "She is looser than a $2 whore..." - tagnarth, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7I agree. I've always felt like social networking wasn't meant to be part of dig. User names and icons are tiny and do not really call attention to themselves. There's plenty of networking sites out there where people can talk and talk and talk. Here we talk through comments.
- arras, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7it would be a neat idea, I guess. but then again, I don't feel a need to talk to any of you
- Jynx97, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7Should adverts for digg wares be made to look like news on the front page?
- StealthTomato, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7SERIOUSLY? OMG, HE MUST BE GAY HE HAS A CAT ANYONE WHO HAS A CAT IS GAY!
Honestly, your logic is the definition of fail. - rockingrhino, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6How about some hints Kevin. Mystery doesn't make Diggers happy. LOL
- chuckpenzone, on 10/11/2007, -2/+8I think Kev's been spending too much time with his cat.
- ijustam, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6We very much need a "Cliche" section. You could lump stories about the iPhone, 300, among other things in there.
- fkr3, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Clicked profile, clicked commented on, I see a list of stories. Where's my comment history?
Oh right, I have to go into a story and then go ctrl+f myself. - magic6435, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7pms? how about they fix this POS comment system first.
- canewediggit, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6agreed. if i wanted to swap messages/im with you guys, i'd put that info in my profile. why am i on digg more than any social network? digg doesn't bug the ***** out of me with member messages/comments/spam/etc.
if digg is going to try and be another 'social networking' site, i'm gone. i have too many messages to deal with already. - theNthDoctor, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5My comment is coming from the point of view of a user that mainly participates in the political sections of Digg ... I don't think we're ready for this yet. Not until there are other public community features where differences can be expressed and resolved in the community. Right now we have too much name-calling and hatred in those parts of Digg, with people standing firmly by their beliefs without much encouragement to behave ourselves. Still, my POV might be a bit narrow because I see Digg as a community of open-ended research: and that's more than just link-spotting, that's a social institution.
Also from a technical standpoint, they have to work on their existing Javascripts a bit, it's already a pretty brutal CPU hit just to vote on a comment. -

What is Digg?
