A smart ebay seller will just post his thing on ebay and start the bidding at $0.01 and minimize his insertion fee.
You know someone is a fool when they start their bidding at $1000 for an item that is obviously in high demand. Guess what? Once your item gets two bids it is probably about as high as it would have gotten if you had started it at $0.01 - but your profits will be cut down by eBay raking you over the coals for their fees.

(Whether those principles are true or not are debateable.) It's pretty widely believed in the marketing world that slapping a sexy woman on an ad will increase sales. Up to 51% of your audience could be female, but in our culture, women at worst generally don't mind seeing other women scantily clad and at best want to be like those good-looking women (or so the idea goes).

Most of the sellers will have a reserve, and if it doesn't meet the reserve, they don't have to sell it. Most of them probably have the reserve around 1000 bucks to ensure they'll get a nice profit. If it doesn't sell, they'll just put it up for auction again until they get their 1000 bucks or whatever.
Just cause you see one for cheap, doesn't mean someone actually got one for that cheap, the same way works if you see one selling for $30,000, it was probably someone trying to jack up the price and over shot. - CircaSurvive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Nice... I like!
