2) Announce plans to purchase TPB
3) Sell shares
4) Cancel plans to purchase TPB
5) Profit
(??? not required) - christoast, on 07/12/2009, -0/+546) Go to jail
- LordBacon, on 07/12/2009, -5/+46***** THE RIAA.
- hbyrne, on 07/12/2009, -0/+37Clearly the savvy investors in GGF shares have moved on to new and better investments, such as the Brooklyn Bridge.
- doshindude, on 07/12/2009, -0/+25yeah, because that worked out SO well for Napster.
- catalysis, on 07/12/2009, -0/+20Pump and dump. i wonder how much the TPB guys made off this one.
- dagamer34, on 07/12/2009, -1/+20Thanks for giving us the very definition of "insider trading". Now I don't have to go look it up in a dictionary.
- Nintendesert, on 07/12/2009, -1/+20Lose.
Teams lose games, your mom is loose. - hellengineer, on 07/12/2009, -1/+16well the world has realized it's going to be tough to legalise tpb. Rock on yea pirates.
- Endrian, on 07/12/2009, -0/+12@solarwind24
It's called "insider trading."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Insider_trading - Bangaarang, on 07/12/2009, -4/+14***** you.
- TriNiiTy, on 07/12/2009, -0/+8SELL SELL SELL
- gegan249, on 07/12/2009, -1/+9Shocked by the sheer numbers of people who make that mistake confusing lose with loose. I would say 50%. Between lose/loose and your/you're. Then if you say something, they come back with 'this isn't a grammar lesson.'
No, this is me calling you stupid indirectly. - Jo9100, on 07/12/2009, -0/+87) Do not pass go, do not collect $200
- Travelsonic, on 07/12/2009, -0/+6Copying ***** != stealing either.
Countering a bad argument with the polar opposite level of bad logic/factual err isn't helpful in a debate, IMO. - DirtyVicar, on 07/12/2009, -0/+5Pump & dump.
- lukas88, on 07/12/2009, -0/+5The domain alone was worth more than 8 million, they got a bargain basement deal.
Eventually napster negotiated a business model that made both the content owners and the consumers happy, I suppose it isn't out of the question that these guys can do it too. - zbeast, on 07/12/2009, -0/+5The thing is, who in there right mind would buy the stock of that company.
Not because it's associated with games, not because its' associated with the pirate bay.
It's because the stock sucks. The company's net profit margin for Q1 March 09 -115.30%
The company has 5 employees, The company's base model is selling software to manage
and run Internet cafe's... Oh, there's a growing business model.
Don't get me wrong I like the Pirate bay and it's a slick Idea for them to "sell" the "company".
But in no way should anyone invest in the resultant pairing.
- taikyokuken, on 07/12/2009, -1/+6You could probably get TPB users to pay a tax for stroking their own dick before they'd pay to use the site, if for no other reason than they only have one dick.
- B1665r, on 07/12/2009, -0/+4Keel haul pirates!
- solarwind24, on 07/12/2009, -0/+4Why would you go to jail?
- sandipc, on 07/12/2009, -1/+5Snap.
- Me1000, on 07/12/2009, -0/+3Except The Pirate Bay IS legal in Sweden.
- diemunkiesdie, on 07/13/2009, -0/+3I always thought insider trading was just people getting mad that they didn't have the information about something first. If you know a product is not going to be approved, why not sell off the stocks for the product manufacturer so you don't have to go down with the ship?
- zbeast, on 07/13/2009, -0/+3I would do 3 years in jail for 8 million dollars. I'm not bitching at them for selling it was the only thing they could do.
If you have a business, thats in trouble, you sell the assets of that company to a new holder.
The trouble remains with the old company, the assets now belong to the new company trouble free.
People to this all the time to get rid of taxes, and bills they can't pay to venders.
the usually sell the sell the company back and forth to themselves using different cooperation names.
I wish the pirate bay team no ill will but... what I'm saying is, that I buy and sell stocks and this stock is not investment grade.
As for napster there's nothing left of that company but it's name.
it was delisted in 2008.

http://biz.yahoo.com/e/081030/naps8-k.html - deviantsteve, on 07/13/2009, -1/+3This was a fund raiser to pay for their court fees.
- paradigmxx, on 07/13/2009, -1/+3Absolutely wrong. Go learn Marketing 101.
There are sites that promise "Free Satelite TV" and "Free Mp3 Downloads", "Free Movie Downloads" - and these sites make 6-7 figures a year just selling the information on how to use torrents. And I know some of the merchants personally.
Buried for not understanding the needs of a market. - Bloodwine, on 07/12/2009, -2/+4First rule of the internet: people won't pay for ***** on the internet if they can get it free
2nd rule of the internet: see rule #1
You cannot monetize what is available free elsewhere. If you think you are a unique butterfly, you are wrong. Someone else will come along and replace you on the free buffet, and probably do a better job at it. - Culyt, on 07/13/2009, -1/+3TPB founders don't seem like idiots, and they said the same about GGF. I assumed the selling had some kind of overall super master plan such as the fact they also host openbittorrent and h3q and where planning to make TPB run on a distributed tracker architecture. And maybe the selling would void the court case (at least as far as the site is concerned, even if not the founders).
Although the other possibility is they want money after getting a possible 3 year jail sentence, with that said they don't seem like sell outs either, an claim they havn't use the site money for personal use (since it would hurt the court cases) so maybe for good reasons help the pirate party. But 3 years in jail is a bit much to keep your principles with. - WatIsNotTaknYet, on 07/12/2009, -1/+2As much as the pirate bay was once great, it's nothing now. It's gone. I even deleted it off my bookmarked tabs on firefox :(

- JohnnySoftware, on 07/14/2009, -0/+1So the implication of what you have just said is that record companies and movie companies cannot make money so long as any movie/music pirates are out there putting illegal copies of them on the Internet.
- dbz253, on 07/13/2009, -0/+1not the original consumers
- JohnnySoftware, on 07/14/2009, -0/+1Yeah, but I do not think that the company that bought Napster ever made enough in profits from it to cover the costs of an acquisition.
- secondwheel2, on 07/17/2009, -0/+1say that after you have been ***** in the ass.
- yumekage, on 07/12/2009, -1/+1Didn't the RIAA and MPAA buy out most of the shares?
- Mykonos08, on 07/17/2009, -0/+0dude that was pretty gay.
- Atario, on 07/13/2009, -1/+1Let's hope it was enough. For the fines and the new servers and colocation, I mean.

Wow, that is so clever! Thank you for bringing such a fresh and helpful perspective to the table, travelsonic. I will be sure to bring this up the next time I hear someone claiming that their ideas or hearts were stolen.
THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING - moonasha, on 07/12/2009, -8/+3Freedom? Stealing ***** != freedom, buddy.

- christoast, on 07/12/2009, -9/+3The internet went quiet... for a time all seemed lost
The lawyers have won, but at what cost?
The information and freedom that was given to all
Was swiftly broken and surly would fall
And suddenly... there came from out in the deep
A new website were we had new torrents to keep
Soon the users realized that it was they, it was them!
The source of freedom that no force could condemn -
