- Audacitor, on 11/22/2007, -0/+46Private site aggregation could be tough. The sites are private, after all.
- ehudros, on 11/22/2007, -2/+25Yeah, the server is currently having some health issues since about a billion people are trying to access it at the same time :)
I'm working on it - anjinash, on 11/22/2007, -1/+16I understand why they do it, but I am philosophically opposed to private sites. If you're going to download pirated files, you do so because somebody is kind enough to be offering them to you. P2P is about sharing, and excluding people just seems wrong. If a stranger shared his files with you, I think you should be able to share your files with whomever else would like to have them. That's why I loved Demonoid (sure it was invite, but c'mon.. it wasn't exactly like OiNK. Anyone could get an invite if they even half-assedly tried) and love TPB. Anyone can join the party and not be all stuck up and "leet" about it.
- ekin09, on 11/22/2007, -0/+15Nah, he is just trying to show everyone how uber cool since he is the "HacKing" and uses private sites...
- ehudros, on 11/22/2007, -0/+9I did not digg it down, I just saw it.
I admit that I was kind of unsure about putting it there so I went over to mininova, saw that they had no problem with placing one on their site and that was pretty much that.
I guess I'll have to rethink the issue more seriously. - antdude, on 11/22/2007, -0/+8Just do it. Competition is good. Makes yours unique.
- knutslie, on 11/22/2007, -0/+8no porn?
- H0ns, on 11/22/2007, -0/+5I think we broke it...
- glitch47, on 11/22/2007, -3/+8did anyone notice this at the bottom:
"Copyright © 2007 PickyPirate.com"
Is that a joke? Do they really expect protection from US Copyright while they are helping piracy? - Flashman, on 11/22/2007, -1/+5Sounds like a great idea. Too bad the site's down.
- coollettuce, on 11/22/2007, -2/+6I don't know why but that was the funniest thing I've read all day.
- squirrelza, on 11/22/2007, -1/+5Did you guys kill the site or something?
- ekin09, on 11/22/2007, -0/+3Yeah, I'd have fixed but but you know....
- Jerky1312, on 11/22/2007, -0/+3Nothing is stopping private sites from doing something similar of their own.
- inactive, on 11/23/2007, -0/+2The difference being in the quality of end product. For example on Oink you could be sure you were getting a proper FLAC or 192+ mp3. No pissing about with webrips, transcodes or 20 copies of apparently the same thing.
- ADHD, on 11/22/2007, -0/+2I dont know what all of you are bitching about (specially since the site is just going up) I checked it out and used it and so far its doing me alot of good, I like it, I'll visit it sometime. Maybe it wont kill mininova but its still useful
good job - shark72, on 11/23/2007, -0/+1Well, yes and no. We bend ethics to suit our needs (respecting some people's rights and not others) but this doesn't mean that we have to be OK with somebody doing the same to us. So while it's *understandable* that somebody would want to mug me, I certainly wouldn't like it.
Let's face it... we pirate stuff because we can. But, even the biggest pirate here would try to kick my ass if I tried to interfere with their rights. Everybody's in it for themselves. We pirate because we want free stuff, not because of some "information wants to be free" hippy-dippy rationalization. - Jerky1312, on 11/22/2007, -0/+1I'm with antdude, just launch it and try to make it better. You don't just give up on a project, because someone else has done something similar.
- Snorglorf, on 11/25/2007, -0/+1If anything, I feel Private sites are the opposite. Everyone wants/needs to upload to maintain their ratio, so everyone is absolutely happy to find rarer stuff to upload it, and keep seeding torrents as much as possible. This means everyone is sharing more than public sites, where you can hit and run and not care. And if you don't share, you don't stay in the site. It keeps everything perfect for the people who are following the rules. And nobody cares about the lazy people, so they get kicked out and it's no loss for the good community members
- spyrochaete, on 11/22/2007, -2/+3I set up a Quick Search in Firefox so that I can type, for example, "meta far cry" in the address bar to search for "far cry" on metacritic. To do this, just create a new bookmark in Bookmarks Quick Searches, give it a name, assign a keyword (like "meta"), and use the following code (right-click and copy the link below.. stupid Digg):
http://www.metacritic.com/search/process?sort=rele ...
I have tons of these searches for sites like Wikipedia, Mobygames, filext.com, The Pirate Bay, and many more. To set up these Quick Searches just perform a search on the desired website, copy the URL in the address bar, and replace your search query with %s. - anjinash, on 11/22/2007, -1/+2That's just greed talking. And a any rate, I've gotten over 1MBPs on TPB. Like anywhere, private or no, it depends on the seeders. I'm on some private sites and I get ***** speeds on them just as often as with public sites.
- coollettuce, on 11/22/2007, -0/+1Yeah I used to think that, until I joined some private sites and now I always download at 1MBps., and that's just the max of my connection I'm sure it could go higher if I lived in Sweden or Japan.
- Derrekito, on 11/22/2007, -0/+1why not?
- shark72, on 11/22/2007, -1/+2Most pirates aren't against the concept of copyright. To the contrary, many of us have copyrights of our own, or work for companies which have a lot of IP. It's simpler than that: we just like free music and movies. We acknowledge the copyrights placed on music, games, and movies -- we just don't respect them. See the difference?
Ehud doesn't need to worry about anybody violating his rights... he's one of the good guys. He's the pirate's friend because he's written a tool that makes it easier to get free stuff (or at least separate the good from the bad).
It's perfectly okay to acknowledge that you respect some people's rights (such as GPL developers) while you don't respect the rights of others (musicians and moviemakers). Nobody said life was fair. - anjinash, on 11/23/2007, -0/+1The difference also being that you have to pray to Christ that you're one of the first to finish downloading the ***** torrent otherwise risk your ratio getting ***** up. Even with great upload speeds that I have access to, when 400+ people are seeding and 3 people are downloading.. there's just no way in hell to keep your ratio, hence you get kicked off the site. File sharing should be fun, not a full time job filled with stress.
- Sabretou, on 11/22/2007, -1/+1Excellent, we've just murdered a promising startup site. That'll teach Ehud.
- glitch47, on 11/23/2007, -0/+0So, by your logic, it's perfectly understandable for someone to mug you? It's not that the mugger is against laws, he just wants your money. Why stop there? Carjacking, burglary... you'd understand if all these things happen to you? Because, hey, nobody said life was fair... so that makes it completely okay to live without ethics.
- BlaenkDenum, on 11/22/2007, -0/+0I bet you'll like mine more: http://www.jorgepena.be/open-search/
- Tooltucker, on 11/22/2007, -4/+4Sounds good, but the implementation is poor. It scrapes a small selection of entries from Metacritic and then parses it against a Mininova search. All done automatically. Sorry to say but it's not even worth bookmarking unless you really have no clue whatsoever about movie and music releases, and I mean no discerning taste at all, and even then the returned Mininova searches will still require the usual vetting.
If you can't be arsed reading reviews and making your own mind up, I suggest you check out the top 100's from Piratebay and RSLog. Far better use of your limited time. - fLUx1337, on 11/22/2007, -8/+7My heart sank when I read the title, as I have been working on a similar project for a while, but its slightly different from mine, same idea-ish different way of doing it!
Feewww.....few months of working on it when I can not down the drain! - alain34, on 11/22/2007, -3/+1How about a mashup of PirateBay movies RSS and IMDB?

http://www.conceptuel.co.uk/tpb/?tpbid=202 - glitch47, on 11/22/2007, -4/+2ehudros, why don't you answer instead of just digging down the question?
- glitch47, on 11/22/2007, -3/+0i disagree with this site in principle, because i like to support things that are good.
- glitch47, on 11/22/2007, -5/+1Why do you expect your idea to be protected while you're enabling copyright infringement?
- HacKing, on 11/22/2007, -14/+9When it adds private site aggregation, sign me up. Until then, I'll stick with my private sites.
- Sabretou, on 11/22/2007, -7/+1You need more internets in your life.
- stonedslacker, on 11/22/2007, -8/+1I think you missed an "is" somewhere.
- insensible, on 11/22/2007, -14/+3I visited the site and yeah really got some good results for a couple of searches. Surely Go and hav a look at it !!!
