- bittermang, on 10/25/2008, -1/+23So according to the article: by hack you mean they merely log in to the mailbox using the username and password? And to protect myself I should buy Cyberroam's product? Non story. Shameless advertising disguised with hype paranoia and fear.
Don't use the same password everywhere. Don't use a simple password. Check your mail with the SSL connection. Don't open everything on the Internet. If you think you've been "hacked" do some scans and change your passwords. It isn't hard, kids. - inactive, on 10/25/2008, -2/+11You're turning Digg into this: http://diggtroll.wordpress.com/

- madwaxer, on 10/26/2008, -0/+2or use the portable firefox with an encrypted usb dongle with pgp mail encryption.
Perhaps a larger implimentation of pgp mailing should be used. as far as securing passwords for account they can use grc.com to create strong/secure 64 character passwords and just use the first 10 or whatever they need. i have occasionally used them and found that using it with portable firefox, thunderbird and truecrypt helps me sleep well. i do most of my surfing in linux through a janusVM server and use the open dns services for a tad bit of stability.

- darkmagician777, on 10/26/2008, -0/+0The only real way to not get spam email is to not have an email!
I would have loved to see the face of a Microsoft or Yahoo official testing out their new spam filters and finding out they just won the lotto! everything can be flawed , but I like the idea of restricted email where you have to be added by the user only - all attempts to send mail are rejected from unknown addresses - PERIOD - and that means even the advertisements of anything - has to go through a process of yes or no. I'm sure someone would think oh you can flood a system to create lots of hits - but with a system where only the user enters the allowed emails you would block out a lot of spam. Make it one sided.
Spam on the rise is not news its common place. This is really not a shock at all. - dannyseo, on 10/26/2008, -0/+0I was using all of these tactics six or seven years ago to mail into AOL. Yahoo pretty much implemented captchas because I wrote a yahoo mailer and account generator. AOL had a bunch of different scripts running that would forward to a URL in the query string, so the links would never be filtered. Self spreading password stealers were also a big part of the equation. I don't get what's so new about any of this.
