- Barman, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16I say remove friends and digging next!
- jayadelson, on 10/12/2007, -9/+21We no longer display that rank information, so don't be surprised if Chris's list is no longer accurate (or stays unchanged). (A Netscape developer?)
We are working on other methods of recognition to be displayed in a user's profile, so stay tuned. - dunezone, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11I want my god damn profile view count back.
- radicaldementia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I always thought the ranking system really didn't describe well how much users contributed to the site. I think as long as you somehow recognize user contribution, this is a step in the right direction. But since the rank was basically #font page submissions, it can still be calculated as long as that number is displayed.
I think the importance here should be the decrease in emphasis of overall rank, not the inability to calculate it. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Is it me or are the top diggers not submitting any stories today?
- cfinke, on 10/12/2007, -5/+12@jayadelson: My list never used the rank information from the user profiles, so removing it does nothing to change its accuracy. It will continue to be updated twice per day.
And yes, I work for Netscape. And no, it is not relevant to this discussion. I've been a member at Digg longer than I've worked for Netscape, and I would have done this even if I had never been hired by Netscape and was still working for myself. - cfinke, on 10/12/2007, -7/+13If you're in the top 100, you can still find your rank here: http://www.efinke.com/digg/topusers.html
- msaleem, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Not true. They are still submitting.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Man, now I feel like when they cancelled the school trip and didn't tell me about it.
- defectDS, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6AH. The comments design just got somewhat ugly!
- richstyles, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Lets strip out usernames, avatars, and submission history. I don't think they add any value whatsoever.
- VtmnR, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Yes, I've noticed that there may be a lack of top user submissions now. I've been watching digitalgopher for any activity.
- jayscottgold, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I've changed my mind since reading kevin's post about the reasons for removing the overall ranking...I agree with digg's reasons and look forward to the changes to come that he mentions.
- jayscottgold, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The elements that make digg a great site are slowly being stripped away...while each of these changes may seem minor, they do add up
- ace77, on 10/12/2007, -6/+6I'am very sad about this, I considered digg not only a news site but also a game and had a lot of fun looking my ranking increase, now submitting stories will not be the same :-(
- ace77, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4I didn't noticed it as I am spending less time on digg today.... I am not a top user but today I am not spurred to submit new stories.
Maybe a strike of the top users should be the right thing :-) - hattrick35, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2@elebrio
"Gay Adelson," that's a great one. Funniest thing I've heard all day. - elebrio, on 10/12/2007, -12/+6How to abuse a userbase for fun and profit 101:
by Gay Adelson
1. Find a group of pathetic fools who think they are part of a "community" of people seeking out interesting stories online to share with other users.
2. Encourage them to participate by including various community aspects such as top 100 users, profile views, comment counts etc
3. Bring up issues of "gaming" the system as critical mass of registered users is achieved to be used at a later date.
4. Rake in huge adsense revenue.
5. Remove all community aspects of system over a 6 month period. Use believable ***** like "tweaking algorithm", "we must stop gaming", "Top users cannot be trusted!"
6. I dont care enough to continue... digg stopped being cool about 6 months ago. - mobilitatis, on 10/12/2007, -9/+2Great Now just left that Everyone will be "equal" on Digg and no just a few top users.

What is Digg?
