As a programmer, if I can write good code, why should I tolerate people rampantly copying and using it without any compensation to me for my hard work? If I choose to code for open source projects out of my altruism and for the benefit of all, it is my choice. Nobody forces coders to code open source software.
If Thailand's ICT minister is going to bash OSS, he had better crack down on piracy, or STFU. His reasons are pure hypocricy considering the state of things in Thailand. Thailand will never have a native software industry of any significance to begin with if the people aren't willing to pay for software. - iWat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0So what's Sun's Java, PHP, Linux, MySQL, etc. ... are they opensource ?
- Dogwood007, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Obviously this newbie ICT Minister is no programmer. He sounded like a spokesman.. or rather. a lobbyist for a software industry/firm that stands to lose if Open Source prospers.
Thailand's IT profession/industry - for that matter - of any developing countries, including India, has prospered .. not from "intellectual property" but from Open Source, give-away codes. This tunnel vision ICT Minister ought to get some facts right!
