- EasY_TargeT, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5go back to your hole
- joe90210, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5correct, anyone can charge as much as he wants for GPL software, as long as you don't close access to your source code
- ricree, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4"authorize not only
copying but also the creation of derivative works—and the
license prohibits charging for the derivative work."
Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this not the case? Sure it may be hard to charge for them since anyone can continue to copy for free, but there isn't anything in the license prohibiting it. - gd007, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4then everyone shd have their recipies public.

/* ducks the flames of cheesiness */ i really do mean it though... :o) - hackwrench, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Snake that works a lot better without the space between the < and 3
- Snakedal337, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3If you can get it without the spaces to work on digg, gimme a ring, because I couldn't.
- BlackAdderIII, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3My girlfriend's an open source type. I'm happy. :-)
- randomc0de, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Thank you for pointing that out. People think the GPL forbids you to charge for software. You can charge as much as you want for distributing a binary package... provided you allow access to the source code and notify the users of the license. You can also package proprietary software alongside GPL software and charge for the whole package. For instance, you could release a Linux distribution where playing MP3's, DVD's, and other non-free media is boxed right in, possibly using a proprietary player. MP3 and DVD playback required a license for the patent, which is why any free players are hosted in other countries with more progressive copyright and patent laws. The GPL is exactly like any other license, provided you allow access to the source.

- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yet another antitrust case which proves that antitrust legislation is a joke.
- JacNet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That wallace kid is such an idiot.
- ricree, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Ok, looking around further, the folks at http://lwn.net/Articles/208617/ do a pretty good job of explaining things.
It was just kind of unclear for those of us who aren't all that into law. Or at least me, anyways. - Atomic1fire, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1its called

ill contribute by showing up hows that sound lol - ppeak, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0It's really. People willingly pay for quality software even when they can get free (but imperfect) substitutes.
- insomniacdude, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2Duplicate.

- TheCod, on 10/12/2007, -10/+2I don't think many girls would contribute to that sort of party, so as long as you aren't too upset by a sausage fest, then neither am I. I'll bring the dip!
