- ofexil, on 10/25/2007, -6/+174Shame on the BBC for not knowing the REAL facts about p2p
- 42Vindictive, on 10/24/2007, -9/+140Woo! Lets bring OiNK back! ***** the RIAA, CRIA, MPAA and IFPI!!!
- r3drumz, on 10/24/2007, -4/+101I can't believe all of the inaccuracies in the video - "pay to enter site" what BS. I hope OiNK comes back or someone will open a new one. LONG LIVE OiNK!!!!
- inactive, on 10/26/2007, -4/+76Wow, that sounds sooo awkward!!!
"You charging for pirated music!"
"No I am not.."
"Hmmm, good point"
"Well continue what you were doing.." - MoneyShot, on 10/24/2007, -1/+47Easy for you to say that when you're not the one who was arrested.
- merdiesel, on 10/24/2007, -8/+49Does the record industry think this will get people to buy more music?..
For as long as I can remember I have been recommending albums to friends and family based on whats worth buying and whats not just by being able to preview them before hand. I WILL NEVER DO THIS AGAIN. I just put an order in for a couple hundred CD-r's and I will burn any and every album requested by whoever i know for free.
I will never buy another album by an artist/band signed to a label as long as I live... I promise you that. - economyisland, on 10/24/2007, -7/+43MEN GET READY 4 WAR
- inactive, on 10/24/2007, -2/+35I'm not worried about my ratio. Or the tracker data. Im just concerned about the admin who got arrested. Tracker data and our ratios can be replaced.
- r3drumz, on 10/24/2007, -6/+39I can't believe all of the inaccuracies in the video. "Pay to enter site" what BS. I hope more artists start following Trent and Radiohead - the industry must die. LONG LIVE OiNK!
- kurupt, on 10/24/2007, -5/+36I wouldn't throw the BBC under the bus for their inaccuracies. After all, we know they're getting all their information from press releases, probably from the IFPI. The IFPI knows that "torrent site charges membership fee" has a better "spin" to it than "torrent site asks for donations to maintain server costs." Still doesn't make it right but, we're dealing with a group working for the RIAA, so it comes as no surprise.
- scabbers, on 10/25/2007, -3/+31The BBC are planning to halve their news staff or something. Start by firing the morons behind that story.
- Typhoon2009, on 10/24/2007, -4/+23Mr. OiNK admin needs to move to sweden
- esbern1, on 10/24/2007, -1/+18seems you don't know what in the ***** you are talking about. as a working musician, I make 95% of my salary from playing live shows, and 5% from CDs.
you aren't part of that "intelligent folks" - TroubleInMind, on 10/24/2007, -5/+21CONFIRMED FOR BRAWL
- jetsetter883, on 10/24/2007, -2/+17true that. i too am feeling what the admin must be going through. and were it not for him creating Oink i would have never discovered the tons of great artists that i did. i guess what i meant to say is that i hope Oink will someday see the light of day again, or at least some sort of clone site.
- masscrazy, on 10/24/2007, -5/+20What a joke Police incharge dont even know the facts, People payed subscription??? Stupid tosser!
- inactive, on 10/24/2007, -3/+15how about supporting the artists that deserve it. continue stealing to broaden your horizon, but at least buy a t-shirt at a concert or something
- mikesly, on 10/24/2007, -1/+13Let's let the guy take a breather before you go asking for things first...
- inactive, on 10/24/2007, -1/+12the chrages weren't DROPPED, moron.
- inactive, on 10/25/2007, -1/+12bust them for what?
- Firehed, on 10/24/2007, -1/+11Something tells me that a website with 170k+ users (or whatever) isn't run off a bag-full of hardware.
What really interested me was the screen captures towards the end. Was that Napster 1.0? - cyssero, on 04/18/2009, -0/+8Die in a fire :-)
- Kurisuku, on 10/24/2007, -2/+10I always buy merch from bands I love, regardless of if I bought the CD or not.
- ismith, on 10/24/2007, -2/+10That BBC report was absolute ***** :S
- potofgravy, on 10/24/2007, -0/+8Luckily they only took the monitors and are now wondering why the computers don't work back at the station.
- underburn, on 10/25/2007, -9/+16I hope the Pirate Bay guys take over. Those guys are unstoppable.
- mverta, on 10/24/2007, -4/+11On behalf of those of us who make our livings purely on music royalties: Pirate our music. If you like it - if we did our job - then go pay for it, so we can eat and make more music. If you like it and don't pay for it, you're an entitled ***** and part of the problem. To beat the Big Evil Corporations, you keep the supply/demand game purely based on quality. Pirating ***** music over and over actually makes things worse, because they still see the demand for the *****, which you don't want to pay for in the first place. The game ends when the corporations put out stuff worth paying for, and then the people pay for it. Some dude who just thinks everything he wants should be free because he says so is a *****, and record label execs pulling idiot 17 year-old girls out of school, doctoring their bad voices in Pro Tools while they sing songs about going to the mall written by 50 year-olds, then buying off programming directors so only their crap gets played on the air 24/7 are *****, too. Both sides need to rethink.
- Jynx97, on 10/24/2007, -0/+7The artists are just a commodity of the music companies. These companies just pump out artists, and take most of the cash from sales of their music. As the music company scam goes, the actual artist gets pennies to the dollar for a CD sale. The artist makes money from concerts. It is slowly being proven that the marketing companies are obsolete, and no longer needed. This scares the hell out of the fat cat CEO's. Their job is to scratch and claw to stay relevant. Hence what we have today.
- mIRCxxdc, on 10/24/2007, -1/+7I'm sure OiNK had backed everything up, and is probably ready to ship database/information to servers in Sweden. He knew exactly what he was doing, when you build such an amazing community (especially for the years it remained operational), you think about what could possibly happen and you take precautionary measures, surely. He couldn't have thought he'd be immune forever.
- kag9000, on 10/24/2007, -0/+6The BBC have been relying on 'official handouts' as news reports for years. They do it all the time and not just for file sharing.
- paulbyrnes, on 10/25/2007, -0/+6Hell yeah, didn't they try to establish their own country? I know that sounds ridiculous.
- inactive, on 10/24/2007, -2/+8there is nothing like 127.0.0.1
- jetsetter883, on 10/24/2007, -5/+11at the end of the news video you can see police carrying bags of computer hardware from the apartment. makes me wanna cry! we can only pray there are some backups somewhere or at best that all of the tracker data is not gone for good.
- soulseller, on 10/24/2007, -0/+6Peripheral to the Oink closure what I am also very upset about is the news reporting by the BBC. Being an American our major news outlets are so slanted I always looked to the BBC for the straight dirt. After there report on Oink I see they have an agenda just as plain and simple as FOX, CNN, MSNBC....
- inactive, on 10/25/2007, -3/+8What makes you think he is in the clear?
- deadbaby, on 10/24/2007, -1/+6"devalueing the comodity known as music."
You misspelt a bunch of words in your post. I'm not usually a spelling nazi but the irony of you calling people who disagree with you unintelligent, while showing the spelling skills of a 3rd grader, is too ironic for me to ignore. What makes it even worse is digg offers a spellcheck feature so you actually had some misguided confidence you were spelling these words right. Kind of like how you have a misguided view of the music industry also. - inactive, on 10/24/2007, -0/+5If you check nearly every report repeated these false claims - thats because they are part of the police statement.
- inactive, on 10/24/2007, -0/+5Don't talk ***** - you are not the one who's been arrested.
- mrmacky, on 10/24/2007, -1/+6And this is exactly why I go to 95% of my artist's concerts, and only buy their CD's if I truly want to listen to them on a daily basis :)
- atomsforpeace, on 10/24/2007, -0/+4ONLY?
- wedges, on 10/24/2007, -4/+8i kind of hope, actually, that it's all destroyed.
- malkir, on 10/24/2007, -2/+6Just because he's being charged with something doesn't mean he's guilty... Moron.
- thevelvetsun, on 10/24/2007, -4/+8I'm glad he's released, and I hope all this false propaganda about Oink stops.
- inactive, on 10/24/2007, -8/+11Thank god.
- ikamos, on 10/24/2007, -4/+7IFPI pieces of *****. Probably hangin' out with the Blackwater crowd after-hours.
- EmileVictor, on 10/24/2007, -0/+3Right...
- DomZy, on 10/24/2007, -1/+4The site used to back itself up at 9am every morning, where those backups were stored is a good question
- ICSU, on 10/24/2007, -0/+2The "admin" earned a lot of money, you naive morons.
- inactive, on 10/24/2007, -0/+2Just like Superman 3!!!!
