- n8dawg87, on 10/12/2007, -0/+23so Google Video is trying to become more like a search engine for video rather than a video hosting site
- dominic2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17it has one cool feature which none of the others have: you can jump forward without waiting for it to fully load
- Noah0504, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Do you guys even bother to read the post?
- seattle98104, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11google's strength would be the downloads in many different high quality formats it has had since in its onset.
youtube does not have that. - wisam, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Exactly, which makes sense. Google is there to organize the world's data. Not to create any. Having Google video as a video hosting site along with Youtube just didn't make sense.
- FullMetalMonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8As long a YouTube stays YouTube, I don't think most people will really care!
- Mikecol, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Google has finally turned their video service into what it should have been all along.
- johlin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5The save-to-iPod-feature is one of its strengths, YouTube really needs to steal that from them.
- jrizzo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I think they will still host video for people that would rather just post straight to Google. If it is successful, they could extend the concept to providing free web hosting!
- gregdigg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Other strengths Google Video has:
-- It hosts videos that are longer than 10 minutes
-- The ability to change the size of the display all the way up to full-screen, so if you're watching a long one you can view it from across the room - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2If Google could fix the horrible interface on youtube as well as create a better method of eliminating spam I'd say that's already a huge step in the right direction. Although the ability to use Google's search engine to search Youtube videos sounds great.
- JamiePlanetX, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3when they announced google video i thought it was an indexing service for all videos, it's nice to see there on there way to doing that.
- thisisfunah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Theyre just opening up searching videos on YouTube via Google
- joecritch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Once any large deals with Google (e.g. NHL, NBA, CBS) are transferred to YouTube, I don't think there will be much use for having video hosting on Google Video.
- dchesterton, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Does anyone else think 1.6 Billion is quite a bit to include Youtube videos? Obviously I'm sure they know what they're doing but couldn't they have done a deal similar to the MySpace-Google one without buying YouTube outright?
- grayman222, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i like to download videos for later viewing in the nice little google player.
- jesuschrysler, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2*they're on their way
come on - gregdigg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Also, SirZRX, it makes no sense to end a disprovable statement with "IMO"
- SSYe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@Laurentvw
Didn't Microsoft buy Blinkx? If I'm wrong, who did?
15 secons ads on all youtube videos will probably allow google to earn more than 1.6 billion... over time... - Laurentvw, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1I'm surprised no one has mentioned http://www.blinkx.com because that's majorly what Google Video is going to do. Blinkx wanted to rule the video market...by letting visitors search ALL videos available on the net, so yea, looks like they got 'pwnd' by Google now...
- joshua5, on 10/12/2007, -7/+4No way Google would trade its brand name for any other. I remind you that its YouTube videos that are appearing on Google's site not vise versa. For the time being YouTube will most likely remain a separate entity like they say, it has to, the fan base is loyal to YouTube not to Google. However, as they continue to integrate the two sites YouTube will being to look more Google overtime. They're not dumb, it'll be a very slow process.
- JurneyAhed, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1That's similar to what Yahoo!'s done, I think.
- chriskzoo, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2It's bigger and more pixelated - duh.
- steven401, on 10/12/2007, -13/+1Merge into 1 website FTW.
- JeremyL, on 10/12/2007, -14/+1Google Video going bye bye....
- SirZRX, on 10/12/2007, -15/+2Google Video doesnt have any strengths IMO.
