- Universal, on 10/12/2007, -1/+53It took me 5 clicks to get to the original article (through 5 sites).
I feel like I'm playing telephone.
Here it is...http://www.foxnews.com/printer_friendly_story/0,3566,251410,00.html (Easier-to-read-printer-and-eye-friendly-version). - SickFinga, on 10/12/2007, -10/+30"That means we can look for Yellow Submarine or Twist and Shout on all the major download services."
like Kazaa, Soulseek, BitTorrent, etc. - Alfdog, on 10/12/2007, -6/+21"But the film “Let It Be” remains in DVD purgatory, Aspinall says. The reason? “The film was so controversial when it first came out. When we got halfway through restoring it, we looked at the outtakes and realized: this stuff is still controversial. It raised a lot of old issues.”
Get over yourself, this isn't the 60's. Have you watched any indie movies within say... the last 15 years?! - lofiboy, on 10/12/2007, -5/+19If you like the Beatles and are waiting for iTunes over the CDs you must be a ***** moron.
Cheaper and higher quality with the physical copy. (Yes, vinyl too.) - ArnoldTPants, on 10/12/2007, -5/+16Why would anyone want the cd when they can now get it in a lossy format infected with DRM?
- tarmithius, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12Seeing as MJ has the publishing rights for the sheet music and lyrics he would never see a dime.
- ibeetle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Funny. I did not know that Apple Inc., had announced that the music of The Beatles was going to be on iTunes at all.
And this inaccurate Digg post does not say it either. It is a post of Gizmodo posting a link to a MacDaily News posting of a Fox News posting.
Fourth hand information with no link to a Apple (Inc., or Music) official press release.
Marked Inaccurate.
Although, sense it original came from Fox News at least it is fair and balanced. - waxdart, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10@wizzla:
No, Beatles fans would clamor at the iTunes (or any digital download) source because they would be REMASTERED versions of these tracks, and the popular notion is that the mp3s would be available prior to the CD re-release of same. - MrKite, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9"Its the beatles, anyone that is a fan already has the CD's and most young people would not be interested."
I'd have to disagree with part of that statement. The Beatles music is timeless. I'm actually surprised at the copious amount of teens that have their CDs and like to listen to them. Every young kid that I have spoken to about music knows who the Beatles are and have at least heard and enjoyed some of their work. You really can't say that about any other band from the 60's other than maybe the Rolling Stones, but I really don't think their early music is timeless like the Beatles.
If there are any teens (or early 20's) out there reading this and have only heard songs like Twist 'n Shout, Yellow Submarine, or other early stuff, download these CDs: Sgt Peppers, Abbey Road, Magical Mystery Tour, and The White Album and give them a listen. Every single song on each CD is good. You just don't find many compilations like that anymore. Most of today's CDs (artist compilations) have 1 or 2 songs on the CD worth listening to, and the others are just "filler". - DrStephanHeimer, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9does flag564 automatically flame anything remotely mac related???
- codyfrisch, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Those who say vinyl is better than CD must love hiss and static. Reality is, the signal to noise ratio is so bad on vinyl that you always hear the noise - your mind just masks it out. But that also masks the details in the sound. So that "warm" sound of vinyl is actually a combination of the noise and your mind masking out the details (because they hide in the noise), and the nature of vinyl with a really crappy frequency response.
So yeah it sounds "Warmer" because you're missing about HALF the sound that was on the original master tapes. CD of course can't bring out anything that wasn't in those master tapes, and in fact will carry the noise from those tapes over if you don't filter the noise out before it goes to CD. But that filtering does the exact same thing our mind normally would - masks the noise out and with it the details of the sound.
So what is best? probably the master tapes! - cathars1s, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5*gasp* people making money.
- TheRealDeal, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8"does flag564 automatically flame anything remotely mac related???"
Yes, yes he does.......kind of sad isn't it. - PDelahanty, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7I don't want a whole CD. I just want a few songs.
- Rhine23, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5It could also be "1". That was the first CD I bought ever. I have to say it was my best purchase of music :)
- profile14, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7Doesn't everyone already own every Beatles record?
- superkendall, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5That would be a major coo, but I don't expect to see the Beatles on eMusic just like you don't see other "major" artists.
Especially so given the balky nature of the company to even enter the market. They are going to be way too paranoid to give up DRM, and that's a shame as they would be the perfect company to set a shining example for the others. - exxon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Is not Emusic no. 2 after Itunes (excluding allofmp3) ? will Beatles songs be DRM free ?
- andergriff, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7Everything the Beatles ever recorded is available free online right now. Besides, I've already paid for this stuff back in the sixties. I'm not going to buy it back all over again.
- Arkitan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Who cares if it is exclusive, in fact I think it would be bad that something is exclusive. The only people that wanted exclusivity for Apple is apple fanboys, and Apple Stockholders. Anyone else wouldn't want it because that leaves a chance that you're MP3 player of choice wont be able to play Twist and Shout.
And before I get flamed for using the word fanboy, I'm typing this on an iMac and I have 2 iPods on my desk. - Charlotte_Web, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5"But the film “Let It Be” remains in DVD purgatory, Aspinall says. The reason? “The film was so controversial when it first came out. When we got halfway through restoring it, we looked at the outtakes and realized: this stuff is still controversial. It raised a lot of old issues.”
Well, the film was rated "G" when it first came out, so I'm not sure how controversial it really was.
Wikipedia says that the film chronicles the problems that led to the breakup of the band, so it sounds like the controversy may be between the surviving estates and/or members of the band. - dfsiii, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Or, it means that there'll be a delayed release. Or, it means absolutely nothing. Why would it be good for someone with so much at stake monetarily to just quickly renounce any other online music provider just for iTunes? That'd sour things up for future deals. This is just another political bit, just like any other comment about a company's future.
- LucerinRed, on 10/12/2007, -7/+10pffft, if you're going to go back to the arcaic cd, then go all the way back and go with vinyl. I will take my Sargent Peppers on the big black discs any day over those over-glorrified mirrors.
- deanshultz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Buried as self-serving link.
Ad below story used more page space than did the Beatles article. Furthermore, author just linked to real article, profiting from the drive-thru traffic. - MotionAesthetic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'd put my money on Yellow Submarine. It's always been one of the albums, even if it is quite... different.
- gbrushtwood, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Aspinall said the core 13 albums would be released and remastered. I can only think of 12 as the core releases. This would include:
1. Please Please Me (1963)
2. With The Beatles (1963)
3. A Hard Day's Night (1964)
4. Beatles For Sale (1964)
5. Help (1965)
6. Rubber Soul (1965)
7. Revolver (1966)
8. Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (1967)
9. Magical Mystery Tour (1967)
10. White Album (1968)
11. Abbey Road (1969)
12. Let It Be (1970)
Maybe Yellow Submarine is the 13th? Or Past Masters? I would hope Past Masters is included because then songs like Day Tripper, We Can Work It Out, I Want To Hold Your Hand, Hey Jude, Ballad of John and Yoko, et al would be available.. - BayouBengal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I am excited about the remasters of the CDs, if they are going to sound as good as the Songtrack version of "Yellow Submarine" from a few years ago it will worth it. I have all of the studio albums in a lossy Mp3 format already and about half of their catalog on vinyl but I will be willing to purchased remastered copies of the CDs though.
- ztpruit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I can't speak for other places but I know growing up in Tulsa, OK I knew quite a few kids that listened to the Beatles, Stones, and Zep. Most of the music nowadays has become so corporate that it’s not worth listening to. I’m personally more into Punk (New Wave, Post-Hardcore, and Post-Punk Revival) but Eleanor Rigby is still one of my favorite songs of all time.
I’m 22, do you honestly think I’m going to buy a record player when I’ve got an iPod. Records may have a certain imperfect charm to them but the only record player I have ever seen outside of a club was in my parents old Wurlitzer. - NextGenXbox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Of all the Beatles songs you could have included in the description you chose those two................
- WiZZLa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@ waxdart : "No, Beatles fans would clamor at the iTunes (or any digital download) source because they would be REMASTERED versions of these tracks, and the popular notion is that the mp3s would be available prior to the CD re-release of same."
iTunes Store doesn't sell mp3s and the only "remastered" Beatles songs I want are lossless, which once again, the iTunes store doesn't sell. - imdwalrus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1MrKite - points on the user name. :) That said, calling Yellow Submarine "early" is just silly - only Abbey Road and Let It Be were released after it.
Back on topic...as a twenty year old college student, I can fully attest to the fact that the Beatles haven't been forgotten by my generation. Most of my friends like the group, even if only in passing, but I also know some hardcore Beatles fans (case in point: one of my friends had a corner of her tiny dorm room filled with as much Beatles memorabilia as she could fit, told people that she loved the group, and backed it up by knowing the words to almost all of the Beatles songs).
Unfortunately, I've only gotten around to buying three albums (1, Let It Be...Naked, and Love) because I've been hearing for years that the restored versions of the studio are just around the corner. Once that happens, then I finally get my chance to proclaim myself a true Beatlemaniac, assuming we're still allowed to use the term 40+ years after it was coined. - jsully, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I said this last time - if I wanted to buy the Beatles catalog in a restrictive format that I can't do anything with, I'd buy the vinyls.
- BayouBengal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well Yellow Submarine was redone just a few years ago though it wasn't the same studio tracklisting as the one from the 60's. So they may skip on Yellow Submarine since all of Side 1 appears on other Beatles records, I hardly ever flip it over to Side B on the occasion that I actually put my Yellow Submarine vinyl on the turntable.
- Bokista, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This was a reference to an Eric Idle mockumentary called "The Rutles: All You Need is Cash." http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0077147/. If you want a good laugh, add it to your Netflix queue.
- gbrushtwood, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I hope it isn't Yellow Submarine. "Hey Bulldog" is pretty badass, but everything else is available on other albums. Side 2 is cool if you're into George Martin's musical scoring, there is no Beatles material on that side though.
I hope it is Past Masters, as that would provide more of a "complete" Beatles collection release..
In case anyone isn't aware, the 2 Past Masters CD's include songs released on singles that do not appear on the official albums. Some of the Beatles best songs were released in this manner because the music industry was a lot different in the 1960's. These days, it is unheard of a band to produce a hit song and not include it on their album. - 68024, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It will no doubt be Yellow Submarine. The box set which includes all Beatles studio albums+the 2 'Past Masters' cds contains all mentioned above + Yellow Submarine.
- rapt0rman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2GO VINYL!!!!!!
- xoineg, on 10/12/2007, -6/+6Its the beatles, anyone that is a fan already has the CD's and most young people would not be interested. I think if they sign deals to make their music downloadable is just to compliment their current sales.
- CCRider, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I'm not sure it'll sound as good as the Yellow Submarine Songtrack, since that release was not only remastered, but REMIXED.
- LetsRok, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0oops! I left off a couple of American releases. "Beatles '65" and "Something New". Also, it should be "The Beatles VI" not IV. And of course there are all the compilations and albums that wouldn't be considered "core" albums like "Yellow Submarine".
- LetsRok, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Those are all the British versions. The American versions would be:
1.The Early Beatles
2.The Beatles Second
3.Meet The Beatles
4.The Beatles IV
5.Hard Days Night
6.Help
7.Yesterday and Today
8.Rubber Soul
9.Revolver
10.Magical Mystery Tour
11.Sgt. Peppers
12.White Album
13.Abbey Road and
14.Let It Be - 68024, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Personally I can't wait until the remasters come out. Some remastered tracks were already released on the Yellow Submarine album from a few years back, and of course the tracks on 'Love' are remixed and remastered too. They sound explosive compared to the original cd and LP releases.
- schneb, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Too late. Apple Corps waited too long. I got the CDs and burned them to non-DRM MP3. My money went to those on eBay and Amazon's used section.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Get back JoJo, Go home!
- Aleks, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I can't wait for the Brian Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band to be on iTunes.
- Bokista, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Why buy the Beatles when the Rutles are already available? Rutle Corps has no problems with iTunes.
- danjal, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3I bought my girlfriend a First Press Sgt Peppers LP for christmas... i'm now screwed for a valintimes cause i can't find somthing better than that =/
- jbond, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2What "major download services" ? You mean there are some?
- MechaZain, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1He's owns their entire catalogue, so this was 100% his decision.
MJ is somewhere laughing maniacly right now. - kilowog, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0People who use iPods are like the people who use AOL. They are technically illiterate, so asking them to "rip" a track off a CD is like asking them to split an atom. Just watch iTunes clean up with sales of Beatles songs.
