You work all your life, 9 to 5, do some stupid crap all day, lose your hair, get abused in about every possible way and what do these people do for you? Nothing. Here's a trivia for you: on a 49.99$ game at Wal-mart, how much do the producer get? 25$. How much do the people who designed the game get? Less than 5$.
Yes, I know, publicity, handling forms, hiring accountants, etc, but it seems to me the gaming industry -- if not the world -- is a big ripoff. And I'm not even into music.
I am downloading from PirateBay because I feel free. I'm not feeding some millionaire who never gave a crap about me and is trying to jail me in complex DRM schemes to make sure I play WHEN they want it. Not counting all the data they get from you with that DRM crap. - SultS, on 02/15/2009, -1/+26Dupe or not, I actually submitted at least 1 second before you. Oh yeah, and digg can't check for duplicates that haven't been submitted yet.
- TheJalu, on 02/15/2009, -5/+29Lycka till Fredrik Neij, Gottfrid Svartholm och Peter Sunde!

- aaroncapricorn, on 02/16/2009, -8/+20i support pirate bay. i do not support stealing. stealing is defined, IMO, as taking something PHYSICAL that is not yours. downloading random stuff is NOT stealing, it is copying. BIG difference.
- sealbeater, on 02/16/2009, -4/+14Go Piratebay!! I love you guys. One of the few groups of people in this world left with real balls!
- say592, on 02/16/2009, -1/+11But TPB doesnt do anything illegal. They just index files. Same thing as Google does. Only difference is TPB also serves up metafiles.
They are under attack because of their ideals. They are under attack because they feel people have the right to share, to be able to distribute ANY sort of content, regardless of what anyone else thinks. They are under attack because their ideals differ from that of big media. They are under attack because their ideals are modern, because their ideals arent still based on a business plan that was thought and planned out decades before computers even existed. They are under attack because they are different. Because they believe in a new business plan, for a new medium that is digital media. - slyzxx, on 02/16/2009, -5/+14Pirate bay has been down all day anyways.
Gottfrid declaring, “I already have more debt in Sweden than I will ever be able to pay off. I don’t even live here. They are welcome to send me a bill. I will frame it and put it on the wall.”
That`s awesome hahaha. - theDarkGamer, on 02/16/2009, -3/+11Thank you Piratpartiet for standing up for what you believe in!
You'd think the RIAA, MPAA, and their puppets would have learned from Napster. This war to keep obsolete business models profitable via litigation is insane and not very forward-thinking. Take down thepiratebay.com and five others will take its place; next time the trackers will likely be peer-to-peer as well.
You can't stop sharing of information. Sitting on tools and art and media and culture, building a wall around it and creating artificial scarcity for profit... this is the way of the past. If only these media-emperors embraced technology and disseminated the best information with it to as many people as they can it would be a better, richer world with more intellectual creation by all.... that's the future, and it could be profitable... - sceptic101, on 02/16/2009, -0/+8suck it twizl!
- ThantiK, on 02/16/2009, -2/+9Lets see, Joined on Jan 2009 - and every comment you leave has something to do with "zomg stop teh piracy".
Shut the hell up troll. TPB will always be up - there are others running servers, trackers won't go down, and I will continue advocating piracy for as long as politicians and businesses lie and cheat people. Which will be forever. - twiztidsinz, on 02/16/2009, -0/+7I guess no one remembers suprnova.org anymore...
- BlatheringIdiot, on 02/16/2009, -2/+9just because there is an empty comment box, doesn't mean you need to fill it, either.

Unless we're talking about goats or something. But we're not. - computershack, on 02/16/2009, -0/+5Except they're not going just for money but for jail time too. And he will be concerned about that no matter what front he puts on.
- inactive, on 02/16/2009, -0/+5I guarantee that more metalheads eventually pay for the music they download than any other music fans. I'm one of those metalheads. I'll download an album and if I like it I'll go buy it and rip it in FLAC, mp3 is a horrible format, if I don't like it I'll delete it. Metal bands don't really make as much money from album sales as you might think, a pretty big chunk of their income is from touring and merchandise sales, which is why I see as many shows as I can. Support the honest musicians and we'll continue to have the privilege of listening to great music.
- say592, on 02/16/2009, -1/+6@volleytennis
Can you give any examples? Thats what I thought.
@tyhen
Stolen implies physical loss. The owners of the digital property can still sell their content, and there is no real proof that they have even loss profit over the whole thing, since some people wouldnt have ever bought it if they couldnt get it for free.
As for the business plan, file sharing is at the forefront of a new business model that is more geared towards the consumer. A business model that proves that advertising is the proper way to "sell" content to a consumer, and by giving it away "free" is the only real way to prevent content from being distributed without authorization.
This is only logical since "manufacturing" costs can be cut to a minimum (IE its possible for someone to record a decent album with less than $1500 worth of equipment) and advertising has already turned viral. There is no real reason for companies to continue the traditional "Pay what it costs to make the product, plus markup" other than the fact that the markup is insanely high now.
Since there really is no real manufacturing process (in a physical sense) for digital media, then there is no reason to use an ancient business model which is designed to ensure that enough profit is made to benefit the creator, as well as what it costs them to make each individual unit.
Once something is digital, its essentially available for mass production without any real effort. Using tons and tons of small transactions from advertising and not requiring the consumer to do anything but want the product fits the digital model much more logically than the traditional model that requires a fixed minimum price to recover overhead, since there is little overhead on a digital product. - TdotFUNK, on 02/16/2009, -0/+4"How much do they get from you STEALING from them? ***** all." Thats not called a loss, friend. Its called Lost "Potential Revenue" That person may not buy it because they now have it. If a cd was magically destroyed every time a torrent is downloaded, THEN it would be a loss. And they do make LOTS of money from the other people. Obviously you are not one of those big shots. Boo Hoo for you. This is not about you. Get over yourself.
- TdotFUNK, on 02/16/2009, -0/+4Yes, that is stolen. The property is removed, physically. If I went to my bank to get the funds, they would no longer be there. Now if you copied the funds I had in my bank to your own, and mine remained...would you still call it stealing? I would not. I would not go to the police saying you took my money, because obviously you did NOT.
- qster, on 02/16/2009, -1/+5I lost my hair too dude..
- sourabhg, on 02/16/2009, -1/+5Where there is a will there is a way!!
Long Live Pirate Bay!! - noisymime, on 02/16/2009, -1/+51) How is downloading not copying? There exists a version on a server or stack of peers, I transfer it to my computer, now there are 2. How is that not copying?
2) Stealing requires deprivation. If I come into your home and take your TV, I have deprived you of something. If I copy your software that I was never going to buy in the first place, what have I deprived you of? Sure, I've infringed your copyright, no question, but I have not stolen something. - CaptMonkey, on 02/16/2009, -1/+5The US Supreme Court says it's not stealing. I'm inclined to agree with them over some random guy in the Digg comments...

/sageerrant - nostraboris, on 02/16/2009, -3/+6steal pop music or hip hop, but pay for the metal dude. you are bleeding metal musicians dry.
- inactive, on 02/16/2009, -1/+4Umm, it's not a good sign when they call their trial a "theatre play." Maybe I'm wrong, but that seems like frustration on their end. Making a reality show about it will do no good if they lose their case. I hope TPB doesn't have to shut down.
- mutuz, on 02/16/2009, -1/+4Btw, this is Swedish for 'Good luck'.
- noahgelman, on 02/16/2009, -0/+3Where the ***** do you think you're posting?
You think anyone here is gonna click your ***** blog spam?
Get a ***** clue. - nostraboris, on 02/16/2009, -2/+5ratteler needs to chill, and look up the concept of "hypothetical", which is what masfenix is using
- opitica, on 02/16/2009, -1/+3In an older live diggnation, Kevin and Alex talked about an interview done by one of the TPB founders by a local news channel. Kevin and alex summed up TPB unpreparedness by saying "Run while you still can!". While I know TPB is doing a great job getting the word out about the trial, I sure as hell hope they've got a good defense. While fellow diggers realize that they're doing no more than what many large websites are doing, a corrupt legal system can easily screw 'em over.
- coldkill3r, on 02/16/2009, -3/+5Viva la bay, my prime source for movies and metal albums!
- NicoNicoNico, on 02/16/2009, -1/+3No it hasn't. I just went on it this morning. Maybe it's down *now*, but I haven't checked.
EDIT: just checked it. Here's a screenshot: http://i44.tinypic.com/iwrh2q.jpg - Travelsonic, on 02/16/2009, -1/+3It's called the law you dumbass.
Theft and copying are two different crimes. - xqb4dpx, on 02/16/2009, -1/+3where can i listen to the audio of the trial ?
- TdotFUNK, on 02/16/2009, -1/+3I define stealing as the act of taking something that is not mine, without that owners permission. When I copy something, and keep my copy, it is not stealing, because their copy is still available for them.
I would not have paid for a copy anyways, but if the product is good enough I may feel that they deserve money just for creating it.
I will then likely purchase something by that owner in the future, trusting that it will up to the same standards as the original. If it is not as good, that is fine, because the original was great. - jacenat, on 02/16/2009, -0/+2peer to peering the tracker would be the next step. we will see if that ever happens.
- Travelsonic, on 02/16/2009, -1/+3Then why is it not prosecuted as stealing, or any branch of the crime, genius?
- Snokage, on 02/16/2009, -0/+2i do, but i hardly go there. the community left, so its not worth going there.
- bitbytebit, on 02/16/2009, -0/+1ur an idiot, its not stealing .. period, I don't know how to get it through to you. I guess look up the legal definition (not dictionary) of theft, if you still don't see it after that well you will just go on being stupid I guess
- TdotFUNK, on 02/16/2009, -1/+2Yes. I agree with Travelsonic. If they complained that we were 'Copying' their property without their permission and it was making them lose "potential revenue" (Which IS DIFFERENT THAN AN ACTUAL LOSS), I might not do it. But They say we are STEALING MONEY from them, literally. We are stealing, so they are losing money. I don't care about any company or person like that. I would prefer if they died.
- mayaicandy, on 02/16/2009, -1/+2These guys rock. I can't wait to hear the final verdict. Though I fear this is going to last for years....
