- tidu, on 10/12/2007, -5/+58Can't spell Wb2.0 without intentionally leaving out an e.
- adizzle, on 10/12/2007, -2/+55direct link:
http://pricetrackr.com - chris_Austin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+32Looks as if Trackr should have picked a different Hostr.
- armbar, on 10/12/2007, -5/+30It should have a better logo: http://msig.info/web2v2/(reflect)priceTrackrBETA.png
- horatio80, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19Needs browsing capability.
- MalaysianMafia, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19well... goodbye priceTrackr, we hardly knew ye...
- adizzle, on 10/12/2007, -4/+20Plus, it's not like it's a big corporation that created an account specifically to promote on digg. Bryce is a regular digg user who created something cool and wanted to share it with the digg community.
- egscott2004, on 10/12/2007, -4/+20By the nature of Digg, he can only "self promote" it 1 digg, by my count; so far there have been 100 other people that are promoting for him. And to add, his site was created to provide a free service for people who wish to use it, not make tons of money.
- pbaehr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16Bryce, you need to hire a designer. The website will not be taken seriously in its current state. If you think you've got a winning idea, it would be worth the investment.
- MikeCerm, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14Updated Direct Link:
http://server134.penguinhost.net/suspended.page/ - tokyomonster, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15If you end up liking and enjoying his service, you have absolutely no right to bitch about ad's, because he could have easily(though probably not succesfully) charge for what he's doing.
Plus, the ad's will help pay for the server we just crashed. - interiot, on 10/12/2007, -4/+15Um, why not just use Anandtech's RTPE? It tracks NewEgg prices, along with all the other site's prices as well...
http://labs.anandtech.com/alllinks.php?pfilter=2662 - gfindlay, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Does all this Web2.0 language mean that Toys R Us was a pioneer in the industry?
- bryce, on 10/12/2007, -8/+19I just wanted to get some feed back and spread the word. If you hate it, you hate it.
- herrshuster, on 10/12/2007, -6/+16Lt's gt this on th front page, diggrs!
- bryce, on 10/12/2007, -5/+14Sorry to inform everyone but I wasn't expecting to be dugg and therefore my host had to take priceTrackr down. I'm working on getting a dedicated host at the moment, unfortunately it'll take at least a few hours to get it back up and running.
Thanks for the diggs, and sorry. - antiintel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Wait, how did you not know it was going to be dugg? You're the one that posted it to Digg.
- moosebumps, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9I know I would use this much more if it were implemented as a firefox extension. Having this data on hand as you browse the newegg site would be quite a time saver. Good work.
- TheWorkz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Damn.. Already site is suspended..
- bryce, on 10/12/2007, -5/+12Armbar: I created that exact same logo when that thing was dugg, however I'm not too concerned with the looks of the website as this time, just the functionality. If people don't want to visit priceTrackr because it's not visually appealing, then they're probably not too concerned with the status of computer hardware prices. If they are then it's our loss.
- lazlonger, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9@ EternalNY1
Are you disputing the idea that someone who creates something and puts it out there for others use, and to take advantage of his time and effort, should not be allowed to recoup some of those lost assets used in the intitial creation? What kind of fantasy land can sustain ongoing free content creation? The independently wealthy, those who can afford to be free content creators, are just not that motivated, or nearly as bright, as the hungry....
That said, the links to this deally are all down as of now. - astrotrain, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Hmm a direct link to a personal blog which the blog has a direct link to digg...
- kendawg, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8So you submitted to digg just for fun and weren't expecting people to like/digg your site? Your expectations are too low! I like what I saw of the site, and I'll use it once it's back up and FASTER.
- Pattyo13, on 05/14/2009, -1/+7digg doesn't need to do anything. diggers need to not digg
- cmatthias, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7bahahahahahah.... tigerdirect.com?
newegg and zipzoomfly are all you need. - armbar, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10Actually, I was being sarcastic by posting the logo from the Web 2.0 logo generator, but it does need something a little more attractive. You might even generate some laughs and attract more folks by using the Web 2.0 logo :)
- misterjangles, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7I think this is interesting - I had probably stupidly assumed that all prices for hardware just slowly go down as newer stuff comes out. RAM being the exception.
It would be cool to add other stores and be able to look at the graph comparatively. I'm sure I'm not the first to suggest that! I usually do my shopping at either NewEgg, TigerDirect or Buy.com, the Holy Trinity of hardware retailers. - TheNik, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Wow, you really should have purchased a server before posting this on Digg. :/
- twertyto, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Froogle? Are you freaking kidding me?
I'd say that 80% of links in froogle redirect to amazon.com. Waste of time.
Oh BTW how long has froogle been beta...like 4 years? - bryce, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9Naturally, priceTracker just doesn't have the same feel as priceTrackr.
- psychotron, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9Digg seriously needs to do something about users submitting a site through their blogs. I don't care about their blogs, I just want to see the actual website they are talking about. There should be a bury tag to warn other users.
- thenutty1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4i think he's saying he didn't know it would make frontpage, of course he knew it would be dugg by himself.
- SilentBobSC, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Sounds like an interesting idea, too bad they couldn't spring for a decent hosting account / server before they suggested it here. Not to mention, just link to the damn thing and not your 'effin blog. LAME.
- bryce, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Thanks for the input, I'll consider these for future updates.
- clairmont, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7The search button looks exactly like Digg.com's - Inspiration or Theft?
- egscott2004, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Some people don't understand quite what pricetrackr is. It tracks prices on newEgg over TIME so that product trends and fluctuations may be seen, it wasn't designed as a tool to compare other stores with newEgg.
- goldcityguy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5But I want it now!!!
I like how that Patriot 2GB DDR has only gone up... - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4All this Web 2.0 pony colors make me sick.
- scottmoss, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4@bryce
I wasn't aware that this was your conglomeration. If you are looking for constructive criticism, here it is.....
a. When you add a number it should be cross referenced so it either adds it or pulls the item up automatically.
b. As long as you are pulling the data from Newegg you may as well link the review information just the same as the price (ie. 8/1 316 reviews with a average rating of 5 eggs). This information will show anomalies in product live cycle.
c. So stocking situations. If a stock out happens at Newegg they spike the price.
d. well you get the point .... - Pichold, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5:rofl:
- scottmoss, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8Ugliest price "tracker" site I have ever seen. Couldn't they have just looked at all the others and stolen the best attributes from each and combined them into their own?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"Site will be up soon."
LOL. - adam123, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Yes, but now the site is down and the mirror doesn't work because it wasn't a direct link :)
- SanTe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2How is this different from what NexTag.com has been doing for years?
- rohcky, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Zipzoomfly is the greatest. They still provide free shipping for most, if not all, their products and they still use Fed-Ex. UPS = Unreliable Parcels Shipping.
- bryce, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3It depends on if your DNS has been updated. The server is up and will be reachable once your DNS has made the proper changes.
Just to note, the server never went down, my host shut down my account because other user's on my share were complaining; I was using 80% of the resources. So those of you that mentioned not having enough bandwidth, you were incorrect. - lazlonger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Who is this retailer that dos price matching anyway? Would love to know, seriously.
- coutub, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I just visited the site and ran some of my old purchases from newegg against it.
It works perfectly for answering the question "Is now the time to buy this item?"
It was great to see all the price INCREASES since I purchased my items.
The Daily Drops are really cool for finding "Deals"
My only suggestion, add a % drop feature, % increase feature.
ie let me know the best "deals" based on % drop (% off in the retail world) and the best things to avoid (the biggest prices increases).
Very good site, great job! - bryce, on 10/12/2007, -6/+8Yes, it's digg's search button. I've been meaning to change it. I'll get around to it.
- quasipalm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Hey elliotb. At least stop spamming your site until you make it accessible without a password. Sheesh.
