- antoniojvr, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18You know, it would be nice if the description included at least one sentence that explains what this program does. Just putting it out there.
- thcobbs, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15Why would someone read the article if they have no idea what it is they are about to read? A bit more info in the summary would probably gone a LONG way.
- neoian, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16no, i want to spam you. j/k
- g026r, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13snurfle, maybe you should "RTFA". It says nothing about what Joost is, just that a new version has been released.
If you want to find out what Joost is, you have to click on this link, then the link in the article to the Joost site, then finally the link to the FAQ. Even then, I find the FAQ full of dreamy, fluffy marketing speak without actually giving a nice concrete description.
e.g.: "What is Joost™? Joost™ is a new way of watching TV on the internet, which uses new and established technologies to provide the best of both the internet and TV worlds" Yeah, ok, but that means what exactly? - sokk, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14In short: It's a new product from the creators of kazaa and skype. It's peer to peer television.
More verbose from wikipedia:
Joost is an interactive software for distributing TV shows and other forms of video over the Web using peer-to-peer tv technology, created by Niklas Zennström and Janus Friis (founders of Skype and KaZaA).
Joost began development in 2006. Working under the code name "The Venice Project", Zennstrom and Friis have assembled teams of some 150 software developers in about a half-dozen cities around the world, including New York, London, Leiden and Toulouse.
The teams are currently in negotiations with TV networks, it has signed up with Warner Music and production company Endemol for the beta[1]. - MrSolutions, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10Joost doesn't need to pay anyone - they are getting a huge amount of press anyway because:
- Joost was started by the guys who made Skype and Kazaa who have a great reputation
- It threatens cable and satellite companies
- It has the potential to change how we watch TV
- It uses Peer to Peer
- It is in private beta and invites are hard to come by, what you can't have you want more...
Have a look on technorati or topix to see how much coverage Joost gets everyday, and often from leading websites like CNET, Gizmodo, GigaOM, Download Squad, BBC, CNN etc...
They don't need to game digg because there is already a huge interest! - tutivlahos, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10I just sent your e-mail to a friend of mine in Nigeria. I said to him that you are interested in buying some Viagra.... lol
Just kidding. - armbar, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7I do, but you're using Hotmail, which goes against my moral convictions. Sorry.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+12obviously none of you ever tried joost. you will be dissapointed when you do.
- MrSolutions, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10just found out they are releasing a Mac version for beta testing soon now too...
- etandrib, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I got the Mac alpha. It is pretty good. I mean I have the Windows client too so not much difference but it is nice to see it on OS X. It is definitely alpha because it has some serious issues but it still runs smoothly. I am amazed how quickly it is able to connect to channels - that is the best part I think. The quality is still pretty low so I'm hoping as more users get on it will get better. I definitely was not using all my bandwidth. : )
- Spelvin, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6the interface is decent, the technology works well, the video looks OK on a 76" diagonal screen.
Content
Content
Content
Any media program needs content and its just not there yet, and what is there is decidedly difficult to move around through...
Mash this up with EZTV and you would have a killer setup... - underrun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+43 weeks, eh?....welcome to the end of the line.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4And here I was ready to jump onto a flying Ostrich and play a new version of Joust.
- SteelFrog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Sounds like a nice application. As long as the video quality is better than the streaming flash stuff (which is horrible), I'm all over it.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5you don't run windows ??? true. . windows runs you :)
- diggersupreme, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5antoniojvr - there is a link in the post to a full description with screenshots - try looking at that - plus there is a link to the joost website.
ChooseandWatch - stop spamming your website and digg post and getting other people to spam it as well - this does not go un-noticed.
Also stop lying about Joost - it has more than 2 videos. It has several channels that each have a large number of videos (Have you even tried it???!!). Most people who have tried it were impressed. I'm neutral so far but it is still in beta so I'm giving it a chance. There is a lack of content and some interface problems but it is still in beta and probably sometime off an official release. You are only saying bad things (and obsessively so) because you know The Venice Project will bury ChooseandWatch. - tateswayz91, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2What's wrong with you skizmo? There's no description of joost in the article so his question was valid. Go drink some tea now.
- idigital, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7It's a brand of orange juice.
- Mactard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Joost rules!
Free espn, fox, cnn, nbc, fashion channel, hbo...
oops...thats tvu.
Joost has none of those channels.
They have made up their own like
fifth gear, paris hilton, the diddy channel,
hot and wet, nettwerk, lassie
Joost is Joonk right now.
With more content it can only improve
As stated earlier, anyone wanting invite will only be disappointed.

my e-mail is splendiddeeds@hotmail.com - TravisL, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2A few weeks back one of the developers for Camino posted on his blog to email him if you wanted an invite for Joost. I wasn't even quick in doing so, and found one in my inbox. I am amazed how easily I got one, and then I hear how difficult they are to come by. You guys are making me feel guilty!
- Stopher, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Well I hope the 5 of you with tokens enjoy it.
- StealthTomato, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Actually, no. This Joost is pronounced "Juiced." I'm aware that in Dutch, "Joost" would be "yohst," but this "Joost" is "Juiced."
Get it? - oththo12, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0hey someone invite to use joost please

- meminso, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0I would love an invite as well.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Um, no description of the actual product in the summary?
No summary of why I should care about a new release of this mysterious product?
I guess I'll never know...
/buried for lameness - DECwakeboarder, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2If you want an invite to the beta...go to their website (www.joost.com) and avoid the blogospam.
- KublaKhan, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Count me in for a mac beta... if anyone reading this can get me info on that...
- razorsharp84, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1how about them White Sox?
