- dfego, on 10/12/2007, -6/+20Absolutely brilliant idea. Dugg.
- shitthisfook, on 10/12/2007, -18/+13What makes this different from your regular freelance website? This is nothing new whatsoever.
- UncommonSense, on 10/12/2007, -3/+44Based on the title, I thought this was a nerd dating site. I'm disappointed.
- ShrimpCrackers, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18I like this site, its a great idea. I'm a designer+programmer who needs help in both ends actually.
Nerd Dating site? Thats a bad idea, you'd get like 100 nerd guys to 1 nerd girl. Its going to feel like an MMORPG all over again. - phogasmic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11I think it is different because it has a friendly, less business like appeal. The freelanc sites can be kind of intimidating, plus you have to give them a cut. This seems like a place where you can meet your business "soulmate", A place where people with great ideas and little money can meet. I just hope it doesn't get spammed to death.
JOey - logic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Not such a bad idea if you're a nerd girl ;)
- timdorr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4And I just spent $250 on a job posting on Signal vs. Noise :(
- brundlefly76, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This is a great idea because its brilliantly targeted.
Definitely needs to be searchable by location though - a lot of us hate working remotely.
- shitthisfook, on 10/12/2007, -18/+13What makes this different from your regular freelance website? This is nothing new whatsoever.
- JonisJon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19Fantastic idea outright, I have seen ideas fail so oftern because these type of people were NOT able to meet.
- Matic, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10I have been looking for life-long business partner for a while now. Hopefully this site can find him/her :-D
- icecream1, on 10/12/2007, -8/+3Awesome idea. Should be dugg by everyone!
Ali - Nozavroni, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2Great idea!
- tim507, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3see if its possible to condense the url or register a shorter verison :), sassy idea tho
- iheartbeer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4diggmeetlame.com?
/kidding... relax, just kidding
- iheartbeer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4diggmeetlame.com?
- drunknjew, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8good idea, missing some stuff...like location based search.
Im in desperate need of a developer RIGHT NOW, but prefer local talents.
Dugg for a good start, thought.- kasra, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Thanks for the idea. I will definetly implement it within the next 2 days.
- saifatlast, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Where do you live?
- DangerStevens, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1If you're going local because you want to help your local economy then you should put an ad in a local paper or on citysearch or something. If you're thinking local is good because you want to stay in better contact I suggest you change your ideas of telecommuting. I've TCed for years and I'm much more productive than when I'm in an office.

- elnerdo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I fear that this will just turn to spam, with everyone being a job advertiser.
- ImTheDarkcyde, on 10/12/2007, -0/+49I enjoy C# and long walks on the beach...
- AaronMT, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Cool idea.
- verifex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Hey, I know some programmers, and some designers. I should be my own website.
- DangerStevens, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1You can run it off your laptop and restrict access to just you!
http://multipartysystem.com
- DangerStevens, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1You can run it off your laptop and restrict access to just you!
- KingAdrock, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Great logo, got a good smile out of that
- varmit, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1I thought of this just a little while ago, but coderscorner.com was being domain squatted, so I forgot to do it.
- FunkyWitDaSysTm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2awww! that's great!
- kofspades, on 10/12/2007, -10/+0Bad, bad, bad. There's already a PMD in the programming universe.
http://pmd.sourceforge.net/- Joopapa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5You missed the point. As designers some of us don't like hanging out in the programming universe. Some of us enjoy daylight... :)
- waxpoet, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2kofspades. dumbass.
- Joopapa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5You missed the point. As designers some of us don't like hanging out in the programming universe. Some of us enjoy daylight... :)
- babyboy808, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1Nothing new here...
- CaseyUCF, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Hopefully it doesn't turn into a site where people bid outrageously low prices for the hours/type of work to be done.
- bgoodknight, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2why?
low prices = good - elnerdo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Like rentacoder.com. I found it nearly impossible to actually make good money on that site. I was always underbid by some team of Indians who could do the project in 30 minutes, and would only require five dollars for it. ...
...
Damn Indians.. - jhendrix86, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1elnerdo, are you kidding me? I used to do rentacoder.com just randomly in college and got a few hundred within a week. There are entire companies that operate purely on that site. If you look at their transaction logs, you'd see they've earned over $1 million there.
I really have a feeling you have no idea what you're talking about. - elnerdo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Exactly what I mean, hendrix! Those companies would always beat me out for bids.
- bgoodknight, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2why?
- cruelpupet, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1 wrong digg...damn
- jalenack, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Great idea, but could use a lot of improvement. The header is fun, but everything below that seems like an after-thought...design-wise at least. Definitely needs location-based options as well.
- eplawless, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The great part is they can draw on their community to code location-based listings and improve the visuals. It will be neat once those things happen, until then it's a great idea with poor implementation. I needs to find me a good designer in the Ottawa area.
- CaptShmo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2good idea. digg.
- posure, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Great idea. Horrible name. Could use the word "beta" in the logo. +digg
- CaptShmo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4lol, for web 2.0 compliance =P
- Matt2k, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Oh darn. I thought it was a programmer dating service. Now *that* could go somewhere.
- FusionGyro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4It's a great idea on paper, but if you go there, it's a dozen people needing a designer, and one designer. Like the rest of us, I work in this industry and I can tell you, designers are the ones making the serious money, and in the highest demand. It's too bad we programmers have so much enthusiasm.
- rlarkin0220, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6*In a Sexy Voice*

http://scriptlance.com
http://rentacoder.com
etc etc- MisterKen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Agreed, but those sites (and the other ones i've tried) don't focus on designers meeting coders, its sort of a free-for-all. You get allot of people who want you to build their ecommerce app for $50 in 3 days.
We've hired programmers through rent-a-coder & getafreelancer.com and they were both unprofessional and poorly skilled.
I'll keep our programming needs posted on Craigslist. A friendly meeting for coffee with a local coder can never be web enabled. - gd007, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Oh, looks like old wine in a new bottle!

Sounds like a great opportunity, but only if I can wash and wax your car too. - heysuburbia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Wow, the kid who created this was born in 1993.
http://kasrak.com/blog/Hello-World!
I think I was watching TMNT II in the theatres.
Good job kid!
I wish I was programming websites like that at 13, then again prodigy was 2 years away and high spread wi-fi wasn't readily available.- NikZ, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2There wasn't even any internet when I was 13. C64 and sprite-based BASIC games were my past-times from about 9 thru 11. And at that age, building a business from it was the last thing on my mind... unfortunately. By 13 all I could think about was girls!
With this kind of productivity at that early age, the dude should have a bright future ahead of him/her. Kudos to you, kasra, all the best to you. - volfro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This really is pretty humbling. Like you said, Internet access was nowhere near as readily available, nor was knowledge about computers--in fact, when I was 13, you were considered 'lucky' if you did have a computer.
But still. This kid is really going out and doing something. At thirt-frickin-teen. Awesome. Makes me feel like I'm wasting time, although I'm a pretty successful freelancer at 22. Humbling indeed. It wouldn't be so bad if the design/implementation weren't so darn GOOD.
Regardless, this looks like it'll shape up to be a good service, one which I'll undoubtedly use.
- NikZ, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2There wasn't even any internet when I was 13. C64 and sprite-based BASIC games were my past-times from about 9 thru 11. And at that age, building a business from it was the last thing on my mind... unfortunately. By 13 all I could think about was girls!
- lucask, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I've come to realize that if you comment stating how awesome the article was, you should just digg it and promote it that way. Comments which only state how cool the article is will always getting modded down so don't waste your time and mine. Unless you have some insightful comment, digg or report the story.
- Veamon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5These sites are the death of real workers. You get people who want a website for $50, and someone will do it for them, whereas in the real world it would be 10 times that, and rightly so.
Plus, if it turns out like Rentacoder, you'll wind up never getting work because you have 5 or 6 people that are always taking the jobs.- lucask, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Well that is what competetive equilibirum theory states. Lowest cost for the job. We aren't a welfare providing planet.
- Veamon, on 10/12/2007, -8/+3And, shouldnt a website thats going to try and go public have more than 10 jobs? Geez, it's some stupid little kiddie app that someone hopes their Google Adsene will make them rich.
- muskawo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Best idea for a website I've seen in a long time.
- Four20, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I gotta say, I feel so much better.
After doing php/mysql coding for the past 2-3 months. . .I've come to think, maybe this isnt my sort of thing(professionally or personally). I mean if I can't do the design, why program, when it will be demanded/expected later in life, and pursuing this professionaly as well.
Now even though it will take me 2-3 times longer to design a frontend to my backend code. I won't think as poorly of myself. lol - Nick22, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3"And, shouldnt a website thats going to try and go public have more than 10 jobs? Geez, it's some stupid little kiddie app that someone hopes their Google Adsene will make them rich."
And shouldnt a supposed "expert" as your attitude seems to say, relize that this site simply does not have a pagination feature? There are likely dozens, if not hundreds of jobs posted on this site now, you just can only see the first 10.
Also, I take offense to you calling it a "kiddie app", as I am 14 and I design web apps (on a dev team for a cms, designed a fully functional forum with a pm system and all). And besides, i doubt your a great coder yourself, from your opinion and attitude towards this site, and you cant even spell adsense right.- lucask, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2but you can't click the reply button on his comment and have to start a new thread?
oops - thespace, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Entrpeneur needs Programmer
Please Implement pagination ....like asap - kasra, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The pagination is done.
- Veamon, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2But the funny thing is, I never claim to be. I don't care if your 14 or not, it's still a kiddie app. And an ugly one at that. And no, I'm not a great coder, but I also don't put out crap sites with my ads on them, and claim how "AMAZING WOW L33T" they are. Plus, it's unoriginal.
- lucask, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2but you can't click the reply button on his comment and have to start a new thread?
- thespace, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Hey whoever did this site, and you are a young adult like everyone is commenting...
DAMN GOOD JOB KID!!!! I'm highly impressed. And keep building on it!!! I'll check back again soon, hopefully you got that pagination working. Love the design too, good work. - miletwo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I'm both a developer and designer. If I join this web site can I "find myself?"
digg+- dotdan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Sounds like you need a psychologist..
- daset, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Once I had a secret area on my blog, where I was identified as Director, Programmer, Designer depending on the day of the week. So on Monday and Thursday I was assigning tasks to both programmer and designer, implementing them the other days. Anyway, this idea of personality splitting didn't help, cause Director wasn't pushing hard. :) Someone organize me!
- nusuni, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1The title definitely does make it seem like a dating site :O
- theWaterboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I like the idea! I must say that often a valuable place for designers and developers to meet is on the large framework sites, for one example xaraya.com is a site where the framework is developer heavy, but designing requires little more skill than CSS/HTML since the templates are very simple.
- Bradillac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2You may need to invest in a "Forgot Password" function. My password was 20 something characters long and I suspect that whatever text/blob field you set up in your database isn't set long enough and probably cut it off. Always use the 'maxlength' option in your input fields people.
This site has a nice design, but programming wise, there are a lot of cut corners.- kasra, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I apologize. I will will fix that asap (today or tomorrow).
- Vironex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Your simple little comment may have saved someone else from this situation, I have a local project site that lacked the maxlength option, when my database would have cut passwords off!
- dotdan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'd be more worried about them storing passwords as plaintext, than whether maxlength was set or not.
- kasra, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It's not stored as plaintext. It's stored as a SHA1 hash (salty =)
- mediamanbkk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I tried to register but it said my email address was invalid, I then went to the "sister" site and was told the same..
- kasra, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm very sorry. I seem to be having a dumb moment.
Can someone here help me? The eregi regular expression I'm using to validate the email addresses on registration is:
[A-Za-z][A-Za-z0-9_-.]+@[A-Za-z0-9][A-Za-z0-9_-.]+.[A-Za-z]+
But it says any email with a dash (-) is invalid =(. Can someone help? - Bradillac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Woah kasra, you're putting way too much thought into email validating. Having an automated email sent to the user and making a quick account activation script will save you tons of head aches in the long run. Trust me, you don't want 300 accounts registered to emails that look like a@b.c ....
- kasra, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm very sorry. I seem to be having a dumb moment.
- yongfook, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's a nice idea, but it blatantly looks like it was built on a framework. And, like so many sites whipped up quickly on a framework, everything from the header down needs a bit of love. It's like the developer scaffolds the site, goes "cool it's working!" and launches the site - forgetting to actually design the thing.
Anyway, framework or not, it needs a little TLC in the design department, IMO.- kasra, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It wasn't built on a framework =)
And yes, it needs some design work (I'm a programmer) but I can't afford a designer (yet).
- kasra, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It wasn't built on a framework =)
- prh99, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Looks like they might need to find a programmer (I am kidding so don't get bent out of shape) "Parse error: syntax error, unexpected $end in /home/.hippodrome/kasraftp/programmermeetdesigner.com/index.php on line 217"
I was unable to view the site because of the above error, but it does sound like rentacoder.com and http://www.topcoder.com/ etc etc.- kasra, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Sorry about that, but it doesn't look like a coding error: there aren't any variables called $end in any of the files. I think DreamHost may just be having a hard time under the digg effect.
- dotdan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's a misleading error--usually it means you just forgot a curly brace somewhere.
- mGee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2as is always the case with these types of sites. The gigs offered place such a low value on the skills being asked. The compensation offered is usually quite horrendous and devalues the skills which programmers and designers provide.
- anagoge, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3One thing that bugs me is that all of the programmers who want a designer want someone who is good with CSS/HTML. I would have thought that most definitely comes under programming and not designing?
- mGee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Actually the CSS comes under designing as it it is specific to the visual layout. With regard to HTML being "programming", I shout a big "NEWBIE" out to you sir.
- mdoom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2More so people relate design with CSS / (X)HTML. With programming you think of more PHP, MySQL, ASP .NET, JSP, that sort of thing.
I do agree, html and css are 'programming', but with work with web design, they are VERY important skills to have. And designing things with CSS, you don't have any need to understand how the PHP page is communication with the MySQL database. :) That is for the programmer.
- mGee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Actually the CSS comes under designing as it it is specific to the visual layout. With regard to HTML being "programming", I shout a big "NEWBIE" out to you sir.
- lanemik, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Awesome idea. Dugg!
Now if I could just come up with good ideas.... sigh - FPSDavid, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Wow, thanks. I've already got 3 or 4 responses to my proposals.
- kasra, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2That's a thanks to digg =)
- gann, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I like the site's logo.
- merik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hi Kasra,
great site and good luck. One thing i found: your date list in add listing is missing october- merik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Id also recommend that you preserve formating like new lines in the Make an Offer, or elave a comment etc. rather than letting the text become long un broken strings. Maybe allow bbcode.
- kasra, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I never did like Halloween.
It's fixed now, thanks ;-)
PS. I'll work on preserving the formatting tomorrow.
- imakehits, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Great idea Kasra... I'm an entrepreneur and I'm always looking for good programmers. And yes, I actually pay... Anyway, I put a post up because I'm looking for a project that is ready to go right now. Hope it works out!
