- bytemynd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+46This could be fun for a Jewish wedding, similar in context to those candles that don't blow out.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+30unbreakable eh? sounds to me like a challange :)
- radu79, on 10/12/2007, -1/+29Well, virtually unbreakable within the context of a glass of wine. Obviously if you drop a 100 KG refrigerator on it from 5 meters, you'll break it.
- LordBoozington, on 10/12/2007, -2/+23I can't say that I completely believe that article. I want to see a video of someone hitting it with a hammer or something similar. "They are virtually unbreakable", means nothing without proof. I can break the "unbreakable" combs that you buy at the store with my bare hands, and I am sure I'm not the only one.
+Digg for interesting possibility of this new material. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+22And in other news:
Bill Gates declares Windows Vista to be "Unhackable". - datastorageguy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19Me + Booze = that glass will get broken..
- perryge, on 10/12/2007, -13/+25No, Chuck Norris.
- Cippy, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16That takes the fun out of trying to break one with your voice.
- clintonforbes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11If you want to annoy your wife/girlfriend/significant-other, test 'unbreakable' items when you are shopping together. I whacked this 'unbreakable' mirror against a steel pole in Kmart a few years ago, without mentioning that it was unbreakable to the missus'. The look on her face was priceless.
And it didn't break, despite a very decent couple of swings. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13Gimmie a 50 lb. sledgehammer, I bet I can refute their challenge. ;)
- dsheinem, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10You can see from their website that they have tested these against the harshest of threats:
http://kwarx.com/robin.html - samdu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9There's a difference between "unbreakable" and "unbreakable within the confines of normal use." The former is nigh impossible. The latter would apply to those combs.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Well, virtually unhackable within the context of a operating system. Obviously if you do anything more than turning it on it will be hacked.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11They need Bruce Willis to advertise these.
- StrawberryFrog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7But is it biodegradable or recyclable; or is it going to be filling up our rubbish dumps with very durable sharp shards (nothing is completely unbreakable) for thousands of years to come?
- stable, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9You're not alone pal...
- CaptainMordecai, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11They missed the most important part....you can still spill your wine!
- h4ppydotcom, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Not breaking during general party use is fine as a definition of 'virtually unbreakable' as far as I'm concerned. I don't need them to survive a sledgehammer attack. I guess the pertinent question, though, is how many breakable wine glasses can I buy for the cost of one unbreakable one?
- phuchead, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6well just look at the lexan that water bottles are coming out and and correl what ever those plates are made out of. they are "unbreakable" and i have killed both of them. i worked at target in the backroom, and we took it upon ourselves to refute the claims of anything "unbreakable" and i will say, that those two items albeit breakable, not easy to brake, and we are "professional" breakers. lol
- EvilTesdall, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10Sippy lids!!!!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Well, it's as mean as you can get...if you don't manage to break the glass, it means that your marriage will be crap....I know a guy who broke his foot doing this.
- twinklyJesus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Good news! You aren't a pseudo-dick! You, my friend, are the real deal.
- srg13, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6The titanic was declared "unsinkable" too...
But i agree with radu79 in that it will just be unbrakable in the context of a wine glass. My dad has some "unbreakable" beer bottles at his work, but that is only to the degree that you can drop it on concrete from 2 metres and they won't break. - solidcube, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8Mod this guy up, he means pipes.
- pcking, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Your dad drinks beer at work?
- cheesy1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4In a Swedish TV show (REA) they got some kids to buy one of those unbreakable steel thermos. The kids tested it by letting a 62 metric tonnes Leopard2 battle tank run over it. The peeps back at the store were a bit perplexed when the kids returned the now 2-dimensional thermos, asking for a refund since it didn't live up to the specification.
Atleast that's one way of testing if something is unbreakable. - ksgant, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Me too, I thought for a split second that "Aero was going to be unbreakable" and I'm like "wow, MS is up to it's hyperbole again....I'll believe it when I see it".
Then my brain caught up to what my eyes were seeing and it made more sense. Though I'm still waiting for the incredible claims from MS any moment now.... - alexandreracine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Transparent aluminum? :) At last!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transparent_aluminum - mostman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Yes - really nice wine glasses are easy to break. Sounds silly, but its the truth. I've broken plenty by just picking two up and letting them clang each other - or just placing them on the counter with a tad too much force (breaks the base from the stem). If these glasses look nice and are balanced correctly - they will sell a ton of them.
- mindtrap, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Unbreakable like Corelle dishes. Sure they're unbreakable. But when you do manage to break them, they break into a gazillion pieces.
- colinmhayes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'd be all over those if they were traditionally shaped.
there is nothing worse than the feeling when you break one of your riedels. - iSEPIC, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Since it's unbreakable, why throw it away? Maybe this will keep the level of broken ones in the trash at bey - ever think it that way?
- 1ivewire, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Mr. Glass is supposed to be the opposite of Bruce Willis. This isn't fair.
- LordBoozington, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I totally agree. I once HAD a fine collection of beer, wine, and shot glasses. The majority of them have ended up as the casualties of partying.
- LordBoozington, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@samdu
Good point. - buddyfarr, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4unbreakable in the context of dropping it from 2 meters?? yeah, it's called plastic..ha ha.
- srg13, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1He's actually a chemist... The bottles have something to do with surface anaylisis. I think they made some for a client or something...
- WillyMF1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Then your just not drinking enough.
- kenelbow, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Yaaaay!
- bobgoat, on 10/12/2007, -8/+9they need to make unbreakable glass bowls
- twinklyJesus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If they are comparing themselves to Reidel, you can bet you're going to spend $30 - $60 per pair.
- twinklyJesus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is really cool. There is nothing worse than spending $30 per for Reidel glassware and having detergent etch the glass and make it hazy or accidentally tapping two glasses together and breaking one or both! Let's not even discuss putting them in the dishwasher. What wasn't immediately clear (sorry for the pun) was whether heat affects the durability. If they do go in the dishwasher will that make them brittle?
- Salva, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Maybe he works in a bar?
- Negyxo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Um, yeah. (for both above)

A: Blow me. - wyngnut, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Alcoholics rejoice!
- Crazyguy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I wonder what It would take to break it?
Maybe a bullet?
Maybe from a 50 cal. Barret Rifle?
Somebody should test how strong these things really are. - theRIAA, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Drunk person: "unbreackable huu..."
*gets chainsaw* - tdogg241, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Maybe I'm out of the loop here, but are broken wine glasses really that much of a problem in today's world?
- DaMacGamer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1i want to see a video of someone drooping it off a Cliff.
